Still unable to get my cabinets even tho he says he will deliver and install but never shows up

He stole $3,600 from us. We sued him and won, but we have not received a penny of the money. So please do not use this contractor. Casey did weeks of work for us. He painted every wall, door, and ceiling in our whole house. He subcontracted with another company to do our hardwood floors on two floors. He fixed things he saw were broken (i.e. leaky faucets, doors that do not close, etc.). He did a great job for weeks. THEN he said he could replace our patio door and large window in the back of our house. The glass had moisture between the windows and they were cheap doors/windows. So I said yes and we paid $3,600 for the Pella patio door and window to cover the cost of ordering the door and window. I as comfortable paying him up front for the materials because he had already done thousands of dollars of work for us. Casey took the money and never came back. I called him 20+ times. He would schedule a time and then not show. We scheduled about five times and he never came.

We initially hired him to partially remodel our bathroom which was completed in 2.5 days. His crew was good and efficient. We hired him again on the spot to install a door for our guest bedroom, which was nearly complete in 8 hours but they damaged the door a little and I needed to order special antique hardware for the door and he assured me that when I received it he would send a crew member to complete the job. He never returned my phone calls and I finally gave up after 10 attempts. I have considered legal action against him.

We had a very similar experience as the previous person. We were enticed to work with him because of his low price and promised fast turnaround. We paid him the %50 deposit and the nightmare started. Men didn't show up for weeks on end, unanswered calls, unskilled workers, things needing to be redone several times before they were done right, aggressive tactics to get me to pay more money and give advances, needed to hire a lawyer when he decided he was finished before delivering about $5,000 worth of cabinetry etc. With threats he eventually came back and more or less finished but we were also months overdue and as a result spent the winter in a dirty, freezing apartment with power-tools everywhere, missing radiators and months on end with no kitchen/ laundry. All this with a one-year old at home!

I just closed the book on this horrible experience yesterday and wanted to warn any other prospective clients before they waste their time and money with this contractor. I had first met with him in early Nov'08and had chose him based on a coworker's recommendation. The project started November 19th with the agreement that it would be finished in 1 month. Initial demolition work was done and then weeks went by where no progress at all was made. I left message upon message for the contractor who refused to call me back. The only way I was able to get ahold of him was when I called from a number he was not familiar with. He would then make promises to have the job done in a week or 2 and everytime, failed to meet the deadline. After almost 4 months of this, I hired a lawyer to draw up a suit and sent it to the contractor, promising a lawsuit if the project was not completed within 2 weeks. (Keep in mind the entire apt. is less than 800 square feet.) No progress was made for a week, and then the secoond week, he had workers in my place and manged to meet the deadline, although not everything was done to my liking. When I checked in throughout the week, he had installed completely different fixtures than I had picked out and when I pointed this out, he said the ones I had chosen were more not included in the initial quote, which of course had not been communicated to me beforehand. After taking four months more than originally agreed upon, which resulted in me losing more than $3200 in parking and assessment fees, he wanted me to pay him $1000 more than the original quote right away due to "supply costs that went over budget" and to which I had never agreed to due to the lack of communcation during the entire process. I said I would pay $1000 less than the original quote to partially compensate me for the delay and and he threw a fit in my building lobby and said he had changed the locks and he had the only keys to my condo. I called a locksmith right away to get into my place and the contractor came back an hour later ranting and raving and eventually gave the keys back (probably after realizing his totally illegal move). After over an hour of shouting back and forth, he finally agreed to my price (only $1000 less than the original quote, so not inclusive of all of the costs I endured for the delay). Overall, I was pretty satistied with the end product, but only after requesting several changed be made. For example, a knob from a cabinet was nailed into the linen closet door instead of installing a real knob, the wrong faucets were installed in the bathroom and shower, and the light fixtures he put in were of low quality and not in-line with the rest of the condo's look. There are still improvements that need to be made, but I'd rather pay someone else to do them than deal with this unprofessional contractor again.
