NO ROOF REPAIRS! No Flat Roofs, Window or Door Installation, & no Roofing Installation for Cedar Shake, Clay & Concrete Tiles, Fiber Cement & Metal – Steel, Aluminum, Tile, & Copper.
I have called probably 10 different roofing companies from Angie's list in the last 36 hours and this was the most awkward phone call out of all of them by far. The lady who I spoke with told me they only send someone for repairs if they are within 10 miles of their HQ. I am exactly 10.5 miles from them according to the google maps. She hemmed and hawed and what it came down to is that I needed to decide on the spot if I wanted a repair done or if I wanted the entire roof replaced because she wouldn't send someone for a repair estimate past 10 miles but she would if it was a full roof replacement. Basically she made it seem like it wasn't worth their time because I wasn't sure what needed to be done. I am a first time home owner and not a roofing professional and I have no idea if it just needs a simple repair or if it is an entire rip off and replace job. She sighed at me and said "what do you want to do", so I ended the conversation. Not very professional. I have a feeling these folks have ripped people off in the past.

Very good experience overall. The price was VERY reasonable compared to two other quotes and the quality of materials used was the same as per the two other quotes. All employees were very professional. Some minor oversights and delays that were quickly taken care of. Office staff was a pleasure to work with.

We were contacted August 31, 2015 to set up an [Member Information Removed] for a new roof at [Member Information Removed] Killarney [Member Information Removed] Our estimator John Turrisi met with your father September 2, 2015, in which he said that we were his first [Member Information Removed] and he was not sure if he wanted to get it done in 2015 or wait until Spring of 2016. He said that he would [Member Information Removed] to speak with you, his son, before making any decisions. It wasent until September 29, 2015 when we received a signed contract in the amount of $19,366.31 from your father to move [Member Information Removed] with the work in 2015. We were contracted to tear off a Cedar Shake roof and [Member Information Removed] new Owens Corning Duration shingles. The job was then scheduled for the beginning of November. Please keep in mind that we [Member Information Removed] jobs that went into December as we do every year for those who put their roofs off and do not want to wait until the following spring. The roofing job was [Member Information Removed] on November 6th and completed on November 9th. The high on November 6th, 2015 for [Member Information Removed] was 67 degrees and the low was 38. The weather the remainder of the days happened to [Member Information Removed] around that and was never in the 40's like you mentioned. On November 11th you called to say that there was unevenness all of the roof. This was when all the phone calls began of you telling us how terrible the workmanship was. Two days later you called again after excessive winds came through the area. You angrily let us know that the roof was misaligned, shingles blew off and there were only two nails per shingle. Your fathers home ended up having two missing ridge cap and a couple ridge caps that were loose that couldn't handle the winds more than likely due to it being a new roof and not having time to seal. There were two nails in the ridge cap, which are how many nails that are required for the ridge cap portion of the roof. That along showed your lack of knowledge for roofing. At this point in time our phones were ringing non-stop of new and past customers needing exterior repairs to their homes due to wind damage. You refused to believe the wind had anything to do with it as you made it known that you drove through the entire neighborhood and not one home was missing any shingles. You were not happy with us explaining that the roof had no sealed and yet you stated that the roof probably wouldn't seal until the summer followed by asking what you are supposed to do in the meantime. I explained that this is one of the reasons you [Member Information Removed] a warranty on your roof and that is why we went out and repaired the wind damaged shingles. Fast [Member Information Removed] to the end of February when you again reached out to us on behalf of your father talking negatively again about the workmanship our company provided. At this time you stated that you had reached out to the insurance company to [Member Information Removed] the damage reviewed. Of course, we came out to see what was going on. There were no missing shingles and the water damage your father was experiencing was condensation. This was very noticeable due to the extremely cold temperatures as well as you stating there were two whole house humidifiers which always tend to be the culprit during that time of year with condensation. At this time we decided that we needed the estimator to meet with you and your father to discuss your issues with out company. After that everything seemed to be fine as we had not heard from you. At the end of June the phone calls began again. We [Member Information Removed] had plenty of rain and some pretty intense storms at the beginning of this year and we were only now being notified of the roof being installed improperly again. In fact, we [Member Information Removed] multiple extremely high windstorms that ripped through the area specifically around March without any calls from you or your parents complaining of the shingle loss. This resulted in me reaching out to the Will County Land Use Department where the permit was pulled. I spoke with the Chief Building Official and request the Final Inspection notes. We [Member Information Removed] attached the inspection report which shows that the work passed on 12/4/15. The Will County Land Use Department has us pay for final inspections on all permits as this helps protect homeowners. I informed you during one of our many calls that I had the inspection report and that all work had passed. We set up an appointment to meet with [Removed members name] and his father again on 06/30 between 8-9am. Our repairman went out to look for anything that he could find wrong. He noticed that there were two singles that were cut a little long that we could fix but that weren't in the areas of claimed leaks. These longer shingles were not causing any issues nor would they in the future. Unfortunately there was a miscommunication because it was brought to our attention from our repairman that one of the claimed leaks your father refused to [Member Information Removed] the repairman look at because it was in a room where your mother was sleeping. I find this odd as we had an appointment set up well in advance and if the claimed leak was important we should [Member Information Removed] been able to assess it. Not knowing that we put a work ticket together for the two shingles spoken about previously but shortly after your father and mother called irate about their roof that was installed improperly and was leaking. I asked if the area had water coming out and if it was wet. Your mother told me no its the same leaks as last time but no water. The conversation was not going well as they were both pretty upset. That was when I decided that it would be best for them to contact the Will County Land Use and we would go from there. I gave your mother the information and never heard back. When we heard back it was a voicemail left from you follow up by an email from you stating that you went to the BBB, the Illinois States Attorney General and the Will County Attorney General. I decided to contact your father who our signed contract was with and stated I never heard back after our conversation with Will County but that we would like to come out and fix the singles that we had a work ticket sitting here for. Our conversation was fine. Your father did call back asking for us to contact you about it and I explained that we were only going to be speaking with them as he had made complaints on us. Your father understood and the appointment was set for the repairs. The appointment was for July 20 3-5 pm but due to excessive heat I contact your father to let him know that we didn't want to change going on his light colored roof as the shingles would be too hot and more than likely the repairman would leave black marks all over the roof from walking on it. I rescheduled for the following morning first thing before the temperature would rise drastically. That evening a voice mail was left from you stating that you understood that we didn't not want to [Member Information Removed] contact with you but that if we were to step on your fathers property the police would be called. You also stated that your attorney would be in contact with us. At that point we ceased all contact with you and your family. I contacted the Chief Building Official at Will County Land Use again as this was a situation we [Member Information Removed] never been in before. He looked into the permit and stated that no one has ever contacted them to dispute the work that was done by our company. Neither him nor I could [Member Information Removed] why someone would take the drastic measures that they did when the first step they should [Member Information Removed] taken was contacting their County where the permit was given. You merely reached out to Angie's List to discredit us and to hurt our future business. We are simply replying to show our side of the story after you [Member Information Removed] slandered our company for reasons we do not [Member Information Removed]. If we were a company you should run from or that is a rip off we wouldn't [Member Information Removed] taken the many phone calls from you discrediting us as well as go out multiple times to your fathers home. No company is perfect bu what we take pride in is rectifying any issues that may arise whether or not they are validated. This situation though is beyond our control as you will never be happy. I'm not sure if your 88 year old father and your 83 year old mother [Member Information Removed] what you are doing on their behalf as you [Member Information Removed] now made them believe they [Member Information Removed] a faulty roof. That is [Member Information Removed] I would not want to [Member Information Removed] upon any of my elderly family members.

The proposal stated they remove all debris from roof and all debris would be picked up and property would be left same way they found it. Also stated that they use a roll off dumpster service. Biggest problem is 6 months later our roof still has not passed inspection!!!!! But add to that the following: Immediately after they did the roof our toilets weren't flushing properly. My husband went up on the roof and saw that the vent stacks were clogged with old shingles and he needed to clean them out. (Not sure what we would have had to do if my husband wasn't knowledgeable enough to figure out the problem and correct it promptly) They did not use a roll off dumpster, issue to us with that is we believed the cost to include the charge of that so we feel as though we paid for something they did not incur cost for. They did NOT remove debris from the roof or from our yard. Our landscaping and bushes were full of shingle pieces and roofing nails. Every time we had wind, rain, or melting snow we had more debris coming from roof including roofing nails scattered in our yard and driveway. The workers used our new gutters as ashtrays so I had to clean cigarette butts from the yard where the downspouts left them. They broke some of our solar lights and one decorative frog in our landscaping. We have a white fence around our porch and there was tar on the fence. They said they would come to clean the fence but so far it has not been done. They left exposed wood which they did eventually come back and correct. The decorative chimney cap was installed at an incorrect angle, they did correct that. We had a shingle come off the roof which they have replaced. The stress that we are under because our roof has not passed inspection is high. I feel that the owner does not take our concern seriously nor does he give it priority. I would not recommend this company to anyone.

It is upsetting to get a negative review from any customer in regards to any work that was performed. It is even more upsetting to get a negative review in regards to things outside of our control and or that were not brought to our attention. On this particular job we used a company owned dump truck instead of a roll off dumpster service. This decision was made due to the size of the job, amount of waste on this job, and the fact the homeowner has a single car driveway. We did not want to take over their parking spaces for multiple days which is standard when using a roll off dumpster service. The Homeowners were not charged for a full dumpster as we charge based on tonnage not per dumpster. This actually resulted in a savings of $185 to the customer. Mrs. Homeowner is correct, the roof has not passed its final inspection from Will County. Effective December 1st, 2015 the Will County Land Use Department made changes to code requirements for residential roofing (We completed the roof end of October 2015). Due to these new requirements, we were given a fail grade on the home for its final inspection. Mr. Homeowner contacted me on December 4th, 2015 to inform me of the failed sticker they received. Due to it being a Friday evening we had to wait until Monday to contact the County in regards to this issue. Will County could not give us an answer (still has not given a definitive answer) as to what was needed in regards to a specific flashing they were requesting. We were consulted by a county representative to hold off on repairs until they could reach out to several contractors to develop a standard operating procedure for installation of said flashings. Mr. Homeowner was kept in contact throughout and was updated several times by myself and the office both through phone conversations as well as text message. We finally got the ok to finish mandated repairs on the home while the still figure out the flashing issues at the end of March. The homeowner informed me of “shingle debris” that he found in his soil stack at the roof line on April 6th when i met with him. If this was an issue that happened immediately it should have been brought to our attention to address the issue. Unfortunately during the tear off of a roof it is very common for some debris to fall into the open pipes on the roof. These pipes are meant to be able to handle some small debris to fall into. (this is an open vent pipe on the roof line which commonly gets rain, snow, ice, leaves, and other things that may fall from the sky) It is impossible that a few pieces of “Shingle debris” would cause an extreme clog in the drain pipe that would cause the toilets to not flush. I am not debating the fact of debris being in the pipe simply that it would not have caused the issue as stated. The only way a toilet would have gotten clogged would be from the drain in the floor thus causing flushing issues. Our crews take extra time at the completion of every job to focus on the clean up. Obviously these guys are only human so it isn’t uncommon for them to miss some waste. It is wrong of Mrs. Homeowner to claim that we did NOT remove debris from their roof or their yard. (in fact 10,400 pounds of debris was removed from their roof and yard) After an inspection at a later date and time i would admit that a better cleanup could have been done but once again we have nothing documented as it being brought to our attention until April 6th, 2016. (6 months after completion of the job) In December Mr. Homeowner brought it to my attention about the solar lights and the decorative frog. He claimed that he had already fixed them so it was not an issue simply something he wanted to bring to my attention. At that time Mr. Homeowner also brought to my attention about the tar marks on their decorative white fence in their front yard. Once again Mr. Homeowner informed me it was no big deal and that he would take care of it even after i offered to clean it. It wasn’t until Mrs. Homeowner contacted me on March 29th upset that it was not cleaned up. i informed Mrs. Homeowner of the conversation i had with her husband and once again offered my services to clean the area. She asked me to meet with her husband to “go over the issues”. At that time I set up an appointment to meet with Mr. Homeowner at his convenience. An appointment was made for April 6th at that time myself and Mr. Homeowner walked the roof line and discussed a few things that needed to be done. He asked if we could reposition the angle of the chimney housing to make it more even which we happily obliged. It was this day that I spent time personally scrubbing the white fence of the tar marks. Myself and Mr. Homeowner had a good conversation while I spent the time cleaning the fence. I also had our repair crew go over the fence one more time when they went to install a drip edge which was mandated by the county. The owner, as well as every employee of Apek Inc. take every customers concerns seriously. Unfortunately we cannot address concerns unless they are brought to our attention as we did with the minor concerns they had. It is my opinion that a lack of communication between Mr. and Mrs. Homeowner resulted in confusion and unwarranted blame. Mr. Homeowner has always been a pleasure to communicate and meet with. Mrs. Homeowner (complainant) has not once met with anyone in the company and only communicated her concerns to us 6 months after we completed the roof which resulted in a meeting with her husband, Mr. Homeowner. We at Apek Inc. stand behind the work we perform and the services we offer. Unfortunately nothing is perfect and issues may happen. We are still working with Will County to ensure that they are satisfied with the work that was performed to meet their new code requirements. We apologize for any stress this may have caused the homeowner and we too hope this is rectified ASAP and all stress can be relieved.

The roofing job was done efficiently and with good results. The problems occurred after the work weas completed. We found one of the roof support beams was cracked, most probably from dumping the heavy bundles of shingles. When first contacted, they sent someone out to corret the problem. This occurred in a location that was easily accessible ao it was easily spotted. A couple of weeks later we were having the attic cleaned out due to raccoon infestation and when they fionished the work, my son went up to insure the work was complete and found another cracked rafter. We called Apek back to have it repaired. Their attitude was we don't think we did it unless yo have pictures showing it before the roof was installed. Now, who goes up into their attic to take pictures? Apek contends they did not cause the problem and wont fix it. Further, they provided proof of insurance when contract was signed and when I attempted to file a claim, I was told they were not insured. I called Apek and told them this, they said they were insured but refused to give me the name of the insurer. Overall, workmanship on the roof was acceptable, but their professionalism leaves a lot to be desired. Would use them again, probably not since I can't trust what they say.

A crew of 7 men arrived exactly on time and set to work immediately. The two layers of shingles and all old roofing paper plus three old skylights were removed in less than 1/2 a day. All debris was carefully dumped into an appropriate sized dumpster. Our rear deck and all greenery around the house was covered with tarps for protection. When the roof was taken down to the boards the new shingles were delivered and placed on the roof to facilitate installation. After a quick lunch break work commenced on installing 32 1/3 squares of new asphalt shingle plus the 3 new skylights. During the installation process they noticed that one 4' X 8' board was damaged and that was replaced. At the completion of the job the crew took at least 3 hours to thoroughly cleanup the entire work area. They painstakingly went through all the greenery to remove bits of paper, shingles and nails that escaped their first attempt at cleanup. They also used mower-like magnets to sweep the grass of all hidden nails and other bits of metallic objects.

We met the homeowner on October 2nd 2014, when the appointment was made with our office staff to meet our representative, the homeowner was informed that our installation schedule was already full for the work to be done in 2014 and any estimates that would be given would be for the 2015 season. When we met the homeowners, they had a lot of questions about different products based on their internet research and had not narrowed down their preference of material to be used on the job. Since the work could not be completed in 2014, The APEK representative asked the homeowner to continue to do their research and let us know if they had any additional questions and when they made a decision about what type of material they would like an estimate for. We did not hear from the homeowner again, until they posted an Angie’s List review on June 29th, 2015. We appreciate the opportunity to evaluate the homeowner’s project, and we are glad to hear they found a contractor to complete the project.

We would gladly recommend Apek to others. From the outset, Brian (estimator/salesman) was great. He spent all the time it took to answer our questions- never felt rushed. Brian didn't try to sell us the most expensive product they had, but explained why a quality siding, etc made sense. From start to finish, Brian responded to our calls/texts within minutes. Price for the project came in slightly lower than other estimates for similar products and install. When we placed order at office, we worked with Lee and owner Jim to make sure all details were accurate and timing would work. Through the process, we communicated several times with Lee and she was responsive, professional and answered any question we had. When it came time for install, the guys were great. Chris and Stosh did a high quality job with all aspects. They were on-time and would gladly answer any questions or requests. Jim, the owner, stopped on site one day to make sure everything was going as planned. All facets of the project was top notch. If we had to nitpick anything, and this is nitpicking, they said it would take 3 or 4 days and it ended up taking almost 6. That said, we told installers that we'd rather have quality than quick. They took their time and the finished product looks great. We are very happy and would hire Apek again in a second.

The APEK team was first rate. It begins with he estimate process. Brian was my key contact thru every step. He discussed with me his detailed recommendation without over selling me. We discussed the types of roofs in the neighborhood and he advised me what I would but also would not need. Much of the roofing industry is vanity based. Brian was honest with me as to what was needed and what was not, never putting on the hard sale. On the days of services the team was courteous to my family and my neighbors, this was important to me. The appeared to be very safe, memento postponing a day due to high winds. At the conclusion of each day the site was completely cleaned up. While it is early, the quality of the work appears to be solid, time will tell. Lastly, at the conclusion of the job Briannwalked around my house discussing what had been done and reviewing any concerns I had at the time. I can highly recommend APEK Roofing.

CREW WAS ON TIME, VERY PROFESSIONAL, DID EXCELLENT WORK AND CLEANED UP THE AREA. THE PRICE WAS VERY COMPETITIVE AND A GREAT VALUE. THE OFFICE AND SALESMEN WERE VERY KNOWLEDGEABLE AND HELPFUL THROUGH THE WHOLE PROCESS. DEFINITELY RECOMMEND THEIR SERVICES.
Description of Work: TEAR OFF, RE-ROOF, RE-PITCH GUTTERS
I liked the pricing and the way they did the work. They cleaned up every night after they were done. They brought trucks in on the asphalt driveways and put plywood underneath it to spread the weights so the driveways wouldn't crack. I liked their quality of workmanship and materials. They were outstanding. One other thing they did that helped out is, they file all the paperwork with the insurance company. They handled all that so that was very good. I would recommend them highly.
Description of Work: I used them for the roof, gutters, siding, skylights and fascia. They did 6 units for us.
