+ -1 moreDan was extremely responsive and helpful. We had been concerned that one of our sump pumps was drawing too much electricity. We had to reset the fuse several times. Dan added a separate circuit for each sump pump system so the draw on electricity was properly distributed. We also had an electrical conduit coming in to the house from the garage that needed to be re-grounded and a box connecting it to the inside needed to be replaced. Dan performed both jobs quickly and accurately. As a side note, he came the next day to do the work and finished it in less than 4 hours. We were pleased with the level of helpfulness and responsiveness we received. Dan was also very pleasant and professional, giving great opinions and advice about our unique situations.
Description of Work: Replace and re-ground electrical conduit box and added separate circuit and electrical outlet for sump pump.

+ -1 moreDan returned calls within a few hours and came out the same day for initial call. He moved a few breakers and gave me an estimate for the balance of the work. I was surprised that a 30 minute service call cost me $135, but he came on new years eve to rewire the laundry circuit. Although he was about an hour late, It only took him about 2 hours and everything worked well ($375). He was courteous and professional and explained all the details. Select Electric charges standard to high rates, but if you need fast service and done by a professional, then you will do OK with Select Electrical.
Description of Work: Replaced fuse in fuse box and rewired laundry circuit separate from the basement.

+ 2 moreAlthough the unit is vacant, and I was flexible with when the work could be performed, Dan knocked it out in under a week, just after it was estimated. As to whether or not $2450 was a good price or not (I did not get any other estimates, other than ones from other contractors that were quoting on the ENTIRE condo rehab, incorporating the electrical work in), I think the ROI from having fans and can lights will more than pay for itself when it comes time to sell. Dan was very responsive; calls were always returned in under an hour after voice mail was left. Overall, I would definitely use Select Electrical for any future work.
Description of Work: Found Select Electrical on Angie's List, and contacted Dan Mitchell for estimate. Came at the agreed upon time, and rec'd a faxed quote the next day. Work to be done was installing 3 ceiling fans in an investment condo I'm rehabbing, 6 can lights in the kitchen, 2 in the hallway, and setting up a GFCI outlet in the master bath. All these locations did not have existing wiring, so all wiring needed to be run in addition to the fixtures being installed. Since the condo was a 1st floor unit in a 3 story building, I was prepared for major gutting of the ceiling drywall, based on comments from other contractors, in order to run new wire to the desired locations. To my surprise, the only drywall "damage" was inside the smaller bedroom closet, where a 5" x 5" hole had to be cut into the ceiling in order to reach the wiring for the light in the closet to run out to the ceiling fan. The piece was retained, so a simple patch kit is needed to restore to new condition. The fans look great, as do the can lights.

I left phone messages with 3 contractors from Angie's List. One still hasn't returned my message. But this contractor returned my call within a few minutes and was at our home looking things over within the hour. He gave us an estimate and returned a few days later (as agreed upon) to do the work needed. His estimate and work were approved by our insurance company and we are pleased with the work he did and grateful for his immediate response.

He had good ideas of how to install lights in this room which previously was not wired for this. I received his estimate by email soon after. He was able to complete the work in 2 days. He was fairly neat, but the job did generate a lot of plaster dust which he attempted to clean. The end result is very satisfactory.

Dan advised me to try a new light bulb as the new bulb I put in may just have been a bad one. He assured me that the slight scorching in the socket was not a safety issue. Sure enough all I needed was a new light bulb! I want to recognize Dan for outstanding customer service. Not only did he save me a bill on this "repair" but he has gained a customer for the next electrical need that arises. Thanks, Dan.

He then looked at what we wanted done in the garage, made some suggestions, gave us a bid, no pressure and was very accommodating with our time as to setting up a work time. When our train was running late (from Chicago) he waited for us without an attitude. We were very happy with him and will use him again.
Description of Work: We just moved into an older home in Wheaton with no electricity in the garage! At all! Dan put in a conduit from an existing box in the garage attic, then ran it down and installed a ceiling light and wall plugs on (2) walls, plus put in another outlet in our dining room. Also diagnosed our main power box (which our home inspector had advised us to do once we moved in).

He explained what the problems in our family room were and what the options were for fixing them. He did a great job installing the new circuits; now, I don't have to worry about cranking up the treadmill and the stereo at the same time! His advice on my other electrical questions was really helpful. I will definitely call him back when we have more electrical work to be done.
Description of Work: Dan added 2 new circuits to our family room to take the electrical loads for our treadmill and extensive stereo equipment.
