His quote was double the highest price, and he was three times the price of the person I ended up using. I think his quote was outrageous. I'm convinced he was trying to take advantage of me because he knew I was on a time restraint. I will not use him in the future. I do not trust him simply because of the price he quoted. He was very responsive and met me right away. He was polite and professional. I have serious concerns of his moral character.

I don't remember the details because it was long ago. He was a nice guy. He came once to diagnose the problem. He had to get parts. Then, he came back to fix it.

He was very personable and a nice person. His mudding and taping skills weren't perfect, but they weren't bad either. I don't remember having a problem with his punctuality.

When I called they answered immediately and they were able to come out that very morning. They arrived exactly on time and was able to make the repairs with parts on hand. The repairman commented that even if he had to get parts it would still be fixed that day. On-time, friendly, fast and reasonably priced. Can't get much better than that.

Gizmo's responded quickly to my request for estimates. He has good ideas and seems to have quite a bit of experience. I felt like he was trying to talk me into doing more and spending more money than I wanted to. We discussed serveral jobs that I want to have done in the house and in the back yard. Said he'd get me an estimate and never received it or heard from him again.

FANTASTIC! All of the work was done extremely well and quickly. This started as a small project, but after being impressed with Tom's service I continued to add to the project list. I just moved to this area and do not know any of the area service providers. I had already used an electrician to make some minor repairs and was charged the same price for those minor repairs as Tom charged for all of the above work. All of Tom's people are very friendly and know their trade well. During the kitchen painting, the painter was fussing over a minor defect in the ceiling paint and I told him to forget it, that it did not bother me. He replied, "But, it will bother Tom." He spent the next hour repeatedly trying to fix the very small defect. Tom is very dedicated to his customers and ensuring all work is complete to their satisfaction before he considers a job complete. He was constantly here checking on his people and the work progress. My house is older and needs some updating. I am already compiling the list for the next projects with Tom. The quality of his work and prices mean he will always have my business. And he is just a super nice guy to work with.

He did a good job. He responded quickly and was very attentive to what I was saying.

Chose Gizmo's from Angie's List because of the good reviews. Tom came and provided an estimate the same day that I called and the job was done the next week. He had to remove the siding, replace the damaged wood and some other things. He also applied caulk to the windows where the caulk had deteriorated. I was very satisfied with the job done. His staff was very professional, courteous and punctual. I highly recommend Gizmo's.

Remodeled master bedroom. Make a small closet into a large walk-in. Looks great. They said it would take 1 week and they kept their schedule.

I told them I thought the price was too high and they gave me no response.

Considering the winter season, everything went smoothly and the project was completed on time and within budget. Tom was a pleasure to work with and was very attentive. Tom created a new house design we really liked and were excited to implement! I never had issues getting my questions addressed and the entire process was very smooth.

It was a great experience. I called Gizmo about the siding damage. They cam right away the following day and fixed it.

Although I said above that I would not use them in the future, if they do come through with a resaonable quote, I would still consider using them based on the great reviews they received here on Angie's list. Update: 4/22/2012: I never heard back from him after coming out to look the job over, even after contacting him to tell him I was still hoping to hear from him. Very, very odd.

The Basement Project began with the design phase in which Tom came up with ideas and suggestions based on our desire to add a bathroom to the basement and update the existing office and bedroom. The bathroom addition involved converting an existing HVAC & storage space into a new basement bath and small hallway connecting to existing basement bedroom?while maintaining ample space for HVAC, water heaters, electrical panel, and storage. Tom?s concept was brilliant, and he quickly generated drawings of the new wall layout and the bathroom cabinet design. He facilitated the selection and purchase of bathroom cabinets, tile, hardware, and lighting/electrical--always helping us make good aesthetic as well as practical choices. Tom came up with an inspired plan to add significant space to the existing office and bedroom. We discovered some wasted space behind some walls, so two walls were to be taken out and extended all the way to the foundation. The rooms had very low, claustrophobic drop ceilings, so Tom suggested removal and replacement. The work began with a very efficient and fast demolition. All the scrap wood and debris hidden in the ceilings was neatly hauled away. The next day, they started the plumbing rough trim. To make room for the new bathroom, water heaters were relocated; also some issues with HVAC duct leaks were addressed. The basement had some shoddy electrical work and Tom was able to fix the problems and bring all electrical up to code. Over in the office, the outside wall was replaced with cool-looking brick tiles, and the newly exposed pipes and ducts were cleaned up and painted black, giving the office an awesome industrial look. The bedroom wall was replaced so that it was against the foundation and the exposed main drainage pipe was covered. But Tom inventively came up with a aesthetic access panel should the pipe ever need to be serviced. New vents and a quality drywall ceiling were also added to the bedroom, which really opened up the space. VERY IMPORTANT -- **Halfway though the project, I realized Tom does something other people don't. He calls you everyday and tells you exactly what's going to happen. He tells you what time he's going to be there and what time his crew will be there and how long the work for that day will take. He's on top of every inspection and the delivery of material. There were only a few days when something wasn't happening in the basement--after a massive day of painting or staining, things obviously have to dry, tile has to set. From start to finish Tom reported in at least twice a day. Even on 'drying' days, Tom would show up just to check on the progress, adjust the fans if needed. I've never had a GC give me that much attention and make me feel that my project was his highest priority. TOM ACTUALLY DOES THIS!! ***** Back in the new bathroom: Construction of the new walls, electrical, dry walling and taping were completed in record time. The new shower was all custom tile work, and the bathroom floor was beautiful tile as well. The new shower was high-end with a rainforest showerhead, making the basement bath the nicest bathroom in the house. New lighting and ventilation was installed, along with timers for the switches so the lights/fan don't get left on. Then Mid Continent brand cabinets were installed. The higher end full wall cabinets added a ton of basement storage. Finally, the new floor in the office and bedroom -- Tom introduced us to the concept of staining the concrete. He had examples of the look in his showroom and we went ahead with his idea. The exposed concrete was sanded and stained several times, giving the floor a totally unique look. All the walls were painted and touched up. Tom went over every final detail making sure the work was perfect, and then touching up again as needed or reworking something when things didn't meet his high standards. The project was completed on time. Tom was joy to work with and his craftsmanship was of the highest quality. We highly recommend Tom and will definitely use him for all future projects.

We found them on Angie's List and he was really wonderful. The estimate was close to $2000 for the work. He was really very nice but it was really expensive and we didn't have the funds for it. I would have gone with him hands down if we had the money. He was really wonderful and explained things very clearly. He was great and it would have been nice if he had done the work. He got back to us quickly.

Never followed up. Note similar reports in other reviews, and age of the positive reports.

Got the job done in the dead of winter, amazing. Got a crew together, took just a few days to roof a house with a steep pitch, put on new gutters, and patch an interior ceiling hole (from a leak). Good products, good price. Didn't like that one gutter was re-routed without asking. Also because it was winter and snow on the ground, didn't go over the ground thoroughly to pick up metal (e.g., nails) and shreds of tar paper. Am still finding both! Would have liked them to come back in the spring to use their device to detect and pick up metal, but didn't think of it at the time.

We purchased our home in June 2011 and knew there were many things that we wanted to have repaired or added. After the initial meeting for an estimate with Tom, we knew we had found someone to not only do all of the many things we wanted done to our home, but that we were on our way to establishing a great relationship, too. Tom was professional and prompt in all of our meetings from day one. As a result, Tom has helped us with all of our projects and has been recommended to multiple neighbors. We told him about all of the items we had on our list and he shared his ideas and suggestions. He even old us that he couldn’t take on one of our projects because it wasn’t his specialty and would take him much longer to complete and at price that wouldn’t be competitive with what we could find elsewhere. This was huge in building trust for my husband and I. Another great example of Tom building trust is his strong recommendation against us adding railing on our steps from our deck. He advised us that the investment in this project wasn’t worthwhile given the state of the deck. Tom and his “dream team” installed 5 new ceiling fans with light switches and dimmers where there were no fans or electrical outlets before, two new bathroom fans with timers, replaced an existing bathroom fan, installed a new dining room chandelier with dimmer, and replaced hall and entry way light fixtures. They also fixed three doors upstairs that would not shut properly and installed an articulating television mount with additional electrical outlet. The fun continued with installing electronic fire detectors throughout our house (these were hooked directly into our electrical system – a great recommendation from Tom to assist should we ever want to make improvements requiring a permit), replaced our existing sump pump and installed a new back up sump pump. Outside his team installed outside lights with timers, and finally, our garage didn’t have a side door that led outside and with a new puppy, we were looking for this to avoid walking on our deck in the winter. Tom recommended a quality aluminum door and now we have a nice new side door and step. I am sure that I have forgotten something as there were so many projects that Tom helped us with. There were also a number of small things that Tom did for us without charging us that were much appreciated. Tom even refunded us $50 when my husband teased him about a project that “seemed” to cost more than my husband felt. When has a contractor refunded money for a job well done? Typically, Tom wasn’t the one doing the work himself, but he always stopped by to check in to see how things were going. He was also very accommodating with our schedules. Tom and his team are consummate professionals and do excellent quality work at a fair price. We highly recommend his work.

Owner provided quote day of call and was able (do to having an employee in the area) to have repairs made the same day. Workmanship was outstanding.

My initial contact with Tom was on or about June 28, 2011 per phone call. A few days later he came to my home to discuss my needs. Tom was a personable man who appeared to know his business, he listened to what my needs were and made a couple of suggestions about the job. I originally contacted Tom because of his A rating on Angie's list and after discussing the job (replacing rotted wood on the front of my house ) I believed that I had made a good choice. Tom told me that he would be back in a few days to take some measurements but because he was going camping with his son over the 4th of July weekend he would not have an estimate for me until after that weekend. That was the last that I have heard from him. I am not sure what the issues are that have not allowed Tom to contact me with an estimate but I am disappointed by this behavior. After going back into Angie's list I determined that the majority of the poor ratings that Gizmo's had received were due to his poor response time and not following through with estimates, not the work that he provided. I was looking forward to working with Tom not only for this job but other small jobs that I need completed.

He was professional. He knew his stuff but I found him to be little bit too pushy and abrupt. I had ideas in mind and he was kind of pushing his own ideas. He was just too abrupt. I found him expensive too. I would consider using him for bigger projects.

I had Tom come out to give me estimates on various projects around the house. I was very impressed as he was prompt in coming out for the estimates. After he came to the house to review the work, he noted that he would notify me the estimate via email or a call. I didn't hear back from him for a few days, at which point I called him and asked him to provide me with the quote. He answered and mentioned that he would get back to me before the weekend, but again no response. The main reason I actually purchased the subscription to Angie's List was to weed off these candidates off my list. As one member said, its unfortunate that he has received some high marks on Angies List, as he was unprofessional not b/c he didn't sign up to do the work, but a professional call back to state whether he could or could not do the work was ignored.

Everything went great! This high efficiency furnace replaced a 40 year old furnace. The installation was done in January, so speed and accuracy was high on my list! I was not disappointed! All the work was done the same day, and the old furnace was carted away. Even with the cold weather, the outside work (venting for the high effiency furnace), was done with a smile. This has saved us hundreds of dollars a month on our utility bills, and paid for itself in the first few months. We couldn't be happier with Tom's work.

I emailed Tom and he got back to me right away. I had asked for a rough estimate but he wanted to come see the work before giving any number. We made an appointment for that day, he showed up on time and we had a pleasant 20 mins of so discussion. He was honest and gave me a figure that was much higher than expected but explained why and it sounded quite reasonable. I would call Tom the next time I need some help with a project.
