 + -1 moreTom and his crew did a fantastic job. He was not able to replace the sink because the prior owners used so much caulk that the granite would of cracked. He also did not add another lock b/c it would of threw of the tracking but did saw two wooden sticks to place between the doors which did the job. I actually had a new washer and dryer delivered the same day, luckily Tom was there b/c we found out that one of our pipes needed to be replaced for the dryer to actually work. Instead of calling a plumber, Tom took care of the issue within 20 minutes. Tom and his crew cleaned up after themselves after each job was completed. They were very professiona. We plan on having some more work done on our house in the future and will defintely be calling Tom.

 + -1 moreTom, the company owner, took my call. He arrived next day, right on schedule, inspected the job and gave me an estimate. I did not shop around, but I estimate his quote was close, or slightly above average. On the scheduled day, Tom was at my house, as scheduled, with all the hardware he purchased for the job. He did a very god job replacing the valve, as well as closing and finishing the wall opening. The work site was organised and clean, and after he was done, the place looked as clean as before started. I am extremely happy with the results and will call Gizmo's services next time I have a need.
Description of Work: The job involved making an opening in the wall, replacing a shower valve, closing and finishing the wall opening.

 + -1 moreMy wife and I were really impressed with the prompt service and the commitment to solving the problem. He took the time and effort to come back to our house at night to solve the problem with the two smoke alarms, and then he called the next day to make sure everything was still okay. In this day in age it is difficult to find someone who is so willing to solve an electrical problem and to follow up like Mr. Debski did with us. We are very happy with his efforts and will not hesitate to use him again if needed.
Description of Work: We had two malfunctioning wired smoke detectors in our house that were constantly beeping. I called Gizmos's Handyman Services to leave a message concerning our problem with the two smoke detectors in our house. Tom Debski the owner called me back in about an hour, asked me what the problem was and I told him. He said he we be to our house with two new smoke detectors in about 45 minutes. Mr. Debski arrived just like he promised and installed the two new smoke detectors and checked them out. Everything was fine and working okay. Then, about 6:30 pm that night the new detectors started making beeping noises. I called Mr. Debski to inform him of the problem with the two new smoke detectors. He came to our house within 20 minutes of calling him to check out the problem with the two new detectors. He determined that both detectors needed new 9 volt batteries. So, he went to a local convience gas station and store to purchase the two 9 volt batteries at no charge to us. Mr. Debski came back, installed the batteries, and checked out the detectors again. Everything was fine and the problem was solved. There were no additional charges for his required extra time and effort for coming back to our house the second time in the same day. He would not accept our offer to pay for the two new 9 volt batteries.

This posed a little additional work on the pipes. He also re-routed the water lines above to allow more clearence for our ceiling. We hadn't considered that in our planning. Thanks Tom!

 + -1 moreI noticed the sump pump was not working and was concerned about the upcoming rain predicted. I called early in the am, left a message and received a return call within 15 minutes. He was very friendly and easy to talk to. He gave me a set time and showed up on time. In a quick professional and friendly manner he replaced the sump pump. At that point, he could have just handed me a bill and left. However, he wanted his entired job done to perfection. Not only did he make sure the pipe was correct, he went to his shop and cam back with one he manufactured. Also, he wanted to make sure the pipe did not wiggle, so he secured it to the wall. Best experience I ever had.

I'll try to write a separate review under the company name for Certified Doors, too, but in general this is the second time we've used Gizmo and it has worked out wonderfully for us.
Description of Work: We came home Saturday night to find the dbl-wide garage door broke on us due to a snapped spring. I sent an email to Tom Debski at Gizmo and he called me back, even though he was sick, on Sunday and basically referred our case out to a company he trusts for the work, Certified Doors. The certified guy, Walter, called me later on Sunday and confirmed an appointment for this morning. His staff guy showed up on time and worked quickly and got it all squared away for the quoted price (two spring replacement and install w/5 year warranty). We're back to normal around here fast and easy and for a fair cost.

 + -1 moreTom came over and gave us an estimate and was able to fit us in later that week. Both for the estimate and for the repairs, they arrived on time. He had 2 employees who went straight to work and worked for the entire time they were at the house which was several hours. They were neat, efficient, and knew exactly what they were doing. Tom called later to make sure we were happy with our repairs and had even found a new switch plate for a old-fashioned type of 4-way that we were having trouble finding. He offered to bring it to us which we thought was very nice.
Description of Work: They came in and updated electrical outlets and light switches in main living areas and corrected some 3-way switch issues.

 + 0 moreWe had originally scheduled the work to be done in August, but due to an unexpected death in the family, we had to cancel. Tom was more than understanding and worked with us to schedule a time when we would be back in town for a few weeks. When it came time to complete the work, Tom was on time, communicated with us every step of the way on the progress, and always cleaned up each day. There were no surprises! Tom either did the work himself or directly supervised those who did it. Tom renewed our faith that there are good people out there you can trust to do a good job for a fair price. We will be using Tom again for other projects exclusively.
Description of Work: We had a leak in our roof that had come through a drywall ceiling in a two-story foyer. While the damaged area wasn't large, it was tough to reach and very visible. Tom removed the damaged area, re-inforced the area above the ceiling in the attic, and cut a patch into the drywall. Tom applied tape and mud and did an outstanding job of feathering the seams. After sanding Tom finished with a great paint job, and we were extremely happy with the results. There was absolutely no way to tell the work was done and it looked brand new.

 + -1 moreTom supervised the job and assisted with some of the work. He did a great job in making sure the floor was covered and that all of the small nooks and crannies were painted with care. We did run into a small problem when touching up due to a poor mixing job from the paint supplier, but Tom came back to touch up and make it right.
Description of Work: Tom had completed repairs, mud and tape to our garage. He did a great job and we had him finish the job by priming the walls.

He and his crew arrived on time, cleaned up after themselves, and paid attention to details such as removing small, low voltage alarm wiring to get a clean finish to an area, then returning and securing it in its original location.
Description of Work: Our garage was drywalled when we purchased our home 12 years ago, however, the tape/mud was only the first coat. Over the years, we had hung shelving, brackets, and hangers all over the walls. Tom patched all the holes, repaired mistakes with the taping, and finished the entire mud job throughout the garage. The work made the walls look like new!

 + 0 moreCrew arrived on time, ready to work. Friendly and focused. Tom subcontracts out and the painters only spoke spanish. I noticed, weeks later while sitting on my couch in the family room, that an area of the ceiling was darker than the rest. I hadn't noticed it before and thought at first it must have been a shadow but shining a light up there revealed it was a patch missed by the painters and the darker spot was from the old white paint. So then I began to inspect the the paint job more closely and found drip marks on the crown molding in several places. There is also a missed patch on my bedroom ceiling that I didn't notice at first. So I called Tom and he came out to inspect it and asked if I had other painters come after his. Of course I hadn't. I told him that I just wanted him to make sure his painters took more care in the future. I didn't think that Tom would offer to fix the problem but he did. He said he would call me at the end of the week with a time but he never called back.. Also, as time passes, there is a difference in hue at the top of the walls where the painters did not edge before applying a second coat.
Description of Work: Updated three bathrooms; painted walls and ceilings in all three bathrooms, bedroom, family room and installed crown molding and baseboards in another bedroom. Bathrooms: built platforms to raise the vanities; new granite counters and sinks with new faucets installed; installed new lights and new baseboards in powder room. Caulked around tile in bathtubs; patched and painted ceilings and walls. Cut mirror to fit; installed mirrored medicine cabinets in two bathroom walls; Installed new lighting in two bathrooms. Installed new toilet in powder room. Installed new wall cabinets; sanded, painted old vanities and installed new hardware.

He also rewired the basement workshop with new circuits, switches, and outlets. He replaced my 20-plus year old water heater with a 12-year warranty unit. All of the work and equipment was first-rate, and it was done quickly. He set us up on temporary power while the work was being done, and even though it was done on a cold January day, we had no problems.

We tentatively scheduled the job for the week after Thanksgiving. The verbal estimate was followed up with a written estimate emailed to me. Shortly after he left, Tom called to say he had an opening on Monday morning (11/24). He showed up with two helpers at 8 a.m. Monday morning and they had the job finished by 11. Everything was installed professionally. We are very happy with the results and will use this company again.

Description of Work: Tom and his crew removed an outside television antennae, removed an old awning, fixed a roof leak, repaired a siding strip and covered 13 wooden windows with aluminum. All of these repairs took place on the second floor of a two story home.

 + 1 moreJob well done. Our large flat-screen TV is on the right wall for our furniture lay-out and all the wires and cables are hidden. He and his assistant arrived on time; organized and ready to work. To move the TV wires/cables in the walls and ceiling plus the TV bracket, and add an outlet cost $350.00. Replacement of ten circuit breakers and patching up the former site the TV hung at cost $250. From other estimates we received, that was a fair price.
Description of Work: Our Flat Screen TV needed to be moved to the opposite wall in our basement. Tom installed a new outlet; TV bracket; reworked the wiring and all the cables in the ceiling, and fished the cables and wires behind the new wall location; patched up the old wall; replaced 10 circuit breakers.

Tom had to remanufacture the window sills and used aluminum and wood combination which turned out better than new. Neighbors commented on how good the finished result looked. Tom always followed up when promised and scheduled the painter on a warmer day. This job turned out so well, we had Tom work on finishing the basement.
Description of Work: Removed siding on rear of house and found leak under windows, replaced and added missing Tyvek, caulked and sealed window, replaced drywall in kitchen damaged due to leak. Replaced, rebuilt and painted window sills in front of house and rotted woodwork on bay. Replaced siding on top of chimney which blew off during a storm.
