Unilock pavers were installed and looked nice for awhile but when they started moving the company refused to return any phone calls and honor the lifetime warranty. I would not recommend them.

Most businesses I contacted were not interested in a project so small in scope, but this company responded promptly and eagerly to my request for an estimate. I received a typed professionally written estimate complete with measurements and a sketch. The office staff I dealt with for scheduling were very courteous over the phone. They were able to squeeze me in a month sooner than expected. The workmanship and quality surpassed my expectations.

The biggest problem turned out to be dealing with the owner. He initially refused to correct some problems. My attempts to resolve the issues were ignored. Phone calls were not returned. After written requests were ignored or refused, I resorted to filing my first and only BBB complaint. That finally led to a resolution in my favor. Dealing with the owner was terrible. I've never been treated with such disdain and disrespect. Design Brick Paving seems fine to work with until something goes wrong. Mistakes happen but it's how you handle them that is the hallmark of a quality business. The initial problems were relatively minor. Because they seemed minor, I was shocked by how difficult it was to get someone to finish the work (a forgotten drainage pipe, landscape fabric along the edge of a retaining wall that was promised by the sales guy, and bricks too high on one corner of the sidewalk and caused a tripping hazard). Nonetheless, the services were eventually completed so I decided against giving a negative review at that time. The problems have continued to pop up since then. The main project was replacing the existing sidewalk. The new sidewalk was placed farther away from the original sidewalk, which created a larger planting bed. When we tried to plant the new bed the next year, we discovered they had failed to remove the several inches of gravel that had been underneath the original sidewalk. They had apparently tossed a few inches of soil on top of the gravel after removing the concrete sidewalk. The salesman oversold the durability of the products and services. He claimed the polymeric sand would last indefinitely but in about 18 months, it had mostly washed away. I had asked about the large amounts of sand that seemed to be coming out shortly after installation but received no response. Either Joe oversold the durability of the product, the workers did not install it correctly, or they used regular sand while charging for polymeric sand. We also had a brick that was glued onto the side of the stoop fall off. During installation, we never knew when they would be showing up. There were times in mid-project when we thought they would come but didn't.
Description of Work: We had a concrete sidewalk removed and replaced with a Unilock paver sidewalk. We also had a steep stepping stone path removed and replaced with an enclosed retaining wall to match an existing retaining wall. This smaller project used bricks we already owned.

After we had to have our front stoop removed to deal with a water issue in our basement, we hired Design Brick Paving to reinstall a new stoop. Overall, their responsiveness was great. Dave was very prompt in getting us an estimate and working around our schedule to get the stoop installed shortly after the prior contractor was complete. The two installers arrived at 9:00am and estimated completion of the job by 5:00pm that day. Dave showed up on site around 10:00am to confirm what was to be done. The work was completed by 4:30pm and the stoop looks much better than the original. Overall I was very pleased with the result. The "C" pricing is not to suggest it was unfair. I probably could have found a better deal if I shopped around, however I believe I got what I paid for. I would definitely recommend them to others and will certainly give them consideration on future work.

I did not realize chipmunks could do so much damage, but we had one burrowing under our front stoop so the pavers were starting to buckle and it became a safety hazard for anyone walking up to the front door. I found Design Brick Paving before I was an Angie's List member, I wanted to find someone who was nearby who had experience with the kind of pavers I have (Unilock). I met with Joe the estimator at my home to review the job. Joe was very personable and explained things in detail. I received the quote the next day and it seemed reasonable given the scope of work involved. They also had to raise a small sitting wall next to the stoop as it had started to sink as well. Once I sent the deposit (50%) the work was scheduled in a reasonable amount of time. I did not have to be present since the work was done outside, but I noticed the change as soon as I drove in the driveway. Their work was flawless and I had no issues with it at all. I may have initially been a bit concerned not being there while the work was done, but the finished product speaks for itself. I am glad that I now found Design Brick Paving Angie's List so I have an opportunity to give them the positive review they deserve. Good service needs to be recognized. It was an overall great experience and I would use them again for future work of this kind. Also - thanks to Joe for his tips on "managing" the chipmunk problem in the future!

We found this contractor from a neighbor's project and decided we'd get an additional quote for the job.We had already obtained two quotes. We talked to the folks while they were at the neighbor's and set up a date to provide us a quote. The came by as scheduled, and within one day provided a quote. While this company wasn't the least expensive they also were not the highest. We chose them due to the professionalism, prior experience with the neighbor's and competitive price point.
Description of Work: We had this company put in a Unilock paver step off of our new laundry room door.We had specific needs for this step which was met by this company. They were prompt, kept the area very neat and clean while they were working. We would definitely consider this company again as they met every need we had on this project.

Today is June 21,2007 the first day of SUMMER. We waited for a call. I finally called in the beginning of June. After leaving 2 messages I received a call from one of the owners stating they would give me $50 off for not completing it last year. Even though I hose the patio down frequently, I asked if they would be cleaning it first due to 3 seasons of dirt, bird droppings, etc. He said no. He told me to clean it or they could for $1 a ft or sq ft. I told him no and to contact my husband. The next call was from their office stating they would seal it June 17th, Father's Day. My husband told them no and left a message for the owner to call him so they could discuss it. No call. We don't understand how a company which presents itself as being first class would want to finish the project with substandard workmanship. Our patio is beautiful. We live on a corner and get many compliments on it. P.S. Should grass be growing thru plastic sand and what about the knob broken off the arbor gate
Description of Work: In August,2006 per our contract D&D Design installed a UNILOCK brick paver patio with plastic sand ( to prevent weed growth). They also installed a wall and our iron arbor. Sealing of the patio was also included in the contract. The work was delayed due to not having our brick to finish our wall and they didn't want to order a small amount of bricks. They finally finished the wall. The contract states "we may not seal on completion of project, however we will return to seal." We waited. We finally called and the owner who oversees the actual work and he stated he did not know it was part of the contract and they would do it in the spring. We held back the final payment and we finally got a bill asking for the payment minus the $329.00 for sealing. Unfortunately we did release the final payment less the $329.00.

I signed a contract with them in April. After two months, I had never seen or heard from them so I called them. They finally came out and did the repairs, then they cleaned the driveway, after that I didn't hear from them again for a while. After about 5 weeks, they sent a non-English speaking crew to seal the driveway, I told them they shouldn't seal it because it had been 5 weeks and the driveway was dirty again, but they just looked at me and smiled. After they sealed it, they immediately called me and asked for final payment, I wrote them and told them I would not pay because the job was not complete or to my satisfaction. They also were supposed to replace a broken brick and they did not. I would definitely not use them again.
Description of Work: Hired them to repair, clean, and reseal.

Don Cox responded quickly to our phone call and met with us at our home regarding design of backyard patio. Don responded back to us quickly with a design layout and contract with pricing. After placing required down payment and signed contract, our job was started in about 14 days. The 3 man crew took 4 days to build our patio. They did excellent work in prepping the area, actual brick laying, cleaning up at the end of the day, and respectful of our yard and neighbors. Two areas of concern that can be improved by this company are a failure of a foreman/supervisor to visit the jobsite at least once during this process and no warning about the dirt/dust created by the sawing of stone--knowing about the collection of stone dust would have prompted us to cover or relocate items in our yard. Some confusion over the design plan would have been eliminated if a person in charge would have visited the jobsite at its onset. Overall, we are very satisfied and enjoying our new patio!
Description of Work: Installed Unilock brick paver patio with grade walls and two columns wired for lighting. The patio stone was sealed for protection.

GREAT EXPERIENCE. WE WENT TO UNILOCK AND GOT THREE CONTRACTOR NAMES. CALLED ALL THREE AND D&D WAS THE ONLY ONE TO RESPOND AND DID SO ON THE SAME DAY. I HAD A DRAWING OF WHAT I WANTED AND GAVE THEIR CONTACT MAN A COPY. SEVERAL DAYS LATER WE RECEIVED A PACKAGE CONTAINING A PROPOSAL AND CONSIDERABLE INFORMATION ABOUT THE COMPANY ALONG WITH A LARGE LIST OF REFERENCES. THE PROPOSAL OFFERED US THE OPPORTUNITY TO CHOOSE BETWEEN SEVERAL BRICK STYLES AND PATTERNS, EACH AT A DIFFERENT PRICE POINT. WE CALLED DON BACK AND HE CAME OVER TO SIGN THE CONTRACT. WE PUT 20% DOWN AND THE NEXT DAY OR SO GOT A DATE FOR THE BEGINNING OF CONSTRUCTION APPROXIMATELY 2 WEEKS HENCE. ON THE DATE SCHEDULED A GROUP OF THREE MEN CAME OUT. THEY DID A VERY OUTSTANDING JOB LAYING OUT THE RATHER COMPLICATED DESIGN THAT I HAD PROVIDED. THEY THEN DID AN EQUALLY OUTSTANDING JOB INSTALLING THE WALKWAY, PATIO AND STOOP. THEY WERE VERY COURTEOUS AND FINISHED BOTH DAYS ON THE JOB WITH A VERY THOROUGH CLEANING.
Description of Work: PUT IN A NEW WALKWAY WITH A SMALL PATIO AND STOOP USING UNILOCK CUSTOM BRICK.
