I have used Niemann Flooring in the past, and my experience was fine. Given that we live in a small community, I've worked very hard to get them to step up to fixing our current problem, but they have let me down, time and again, over almost an entire year. At the end of last summer (2012), a Niemann's contractor installed our laminate flooring. Within the first 8 weeks, the transition strips and door threshold pieces began to peel off of their tracks. The tracks sit down between the room sections, and the piece of laminate is glued to the top of it. Yes, glued. And badly. It looks like the transitions are of very poor manufacturing quality. Again, it was SHAW flooring. The salesperson was understanding. She sent out their estimator to look at it. He suggested that moisture from the dogs lapping water from their bowl had caused it. Except the dogs' bowl is nowhere near any of the broken transitions. Then he suggested that children running through the house caused it. Except my youngest is 13 and doesn't run in the house. He was very anxious to make us responsible. My question--even if we had two young children, isn't flooring supposed to be...durable? The saleswoman said that she would contact Shaw. Shaw responded that they had never heard of such a thing happening, and that the pieces had been installed incorrectly and they wouldn't pay. Basically, they punted. The saleswoman said that she could order new pieces, but that they would probably be exactly the same. A few days later, she said that the contractor accepted responsibility and would replace the transitions. A few weeks later, the original contractor/installer employee came out and glued the old piece back down in one area and said he would fix the rest later. Months passed. I eventually contacted the salesperson--twice--before the contracted installer's boss called me and assured me that they would replace the busted transitions with beautiful wood transitions. No one came. I contacted him again. An employee came out and said that he could see what needed to be done, and he could just finish the new wood pieces at their shop and bring them out an install them, or I could see a sample of the color first. I opted to see a piece with the new color. That was five weeks ago. We are now looking at nearly a year since this became a problem. I contacted the contractor's employee and left messages twice. No answer. Over a week ago, I contacted his boss. No answer. More transitions have come off in the interim. The salesperson has been pleasant, apologetic and apparently empathetic throughout this whole process. Unfortunately, this means nothing! We trip over these loose transitions frequently. In places I have just had to take them off. My $8000 floor looks like trash. Niemann's has not shown good faith at all. In the end, I'm convinced that Shaw sent out poor quality materials. (The laminate appears to have been glued on with a piece of cardboard or thick paper.) But that is no excuse. Either Niemann's needs to get Shaw to cough up the new, appropriate materials, or they need to get another, more responsible contractor to fix this. We are caught in the middle. I am livid. As I said, I have worked extremely hard to be pleasant and cooperative. Niemann's is, essentially, the only non-Lowe's/Home Depot option in our town, and I like to keep my custom local. At this point I would definitely be reluctant to recommend Niemann's to anyone else.
