Michael and his team are spot on in every aspect of their business that I utilized. Beyond that, their pricing and responsiveness were excellent. They even cut in a new board into a space between two rooms where there used to be an unsightly transition. I love my refinished floor, and visitors to my home comment on it frequently. I will use their services in the future if I decide to have wood flooring installed in some of my bedrooms.

Mike is truly a Wizard of Wood Floors. His team performed a great job on the new wood floor. It matches the existing floor very well which is not easy to do. I love my new office floor. In addition, the team revived my existing 20 year old wood floors in the kitchen and foyer. They look almost new. I am very pleased with the Wizard of Wood Floors team. They really know a lot about wood floors, were very professional, cleaned up, and were on time. I would certainly use them again and highly recommend them to others seeking work for wood flooring.

We did a small bump out in our dining room and needed hardwood installed and finished to match the existing floor. Michael came and said he would do it but warned us it was difficult to get an exact match on color and finish. We went ahead and they were great about working around Thanksgiving. The first effort was OK but not perfect. Michael said it was not good enough for him and they came and re-sanded and started over. They did 3 different finishes in their efforts to make the job as good as possible. They just DID NOT give up and the result is pretty close to perfect. I am sure they lost a fair amount on this job but they were so kind and accommodating it was amazing. I know this job had to be a small irritation to them but they stayed with it until it was right. This company exhibits a rare commitment to their customers. I cannot rate them high enough.

In summary, my recent experience with this company (December 2012) showed a clear lack of respect for my property and sloppy work. I can only recommend NOT to use this company. Frankly, I am somewhat surprised to see the good reviews found otherwise. The job consisted of refinishing an existing floor and extending the wood floor to an adjacent space that had a different flooring before. The job was executed by one of Mike?s crews. Mike actually was never on site while the work took place - not at the beginning, during or at the end. I figured the owner would check out the job when finished. The only positive is that they were able to blend well the existing floor with the new floor that they installed in the adjacent space. This is where the positive aspect of the job ends.I would consider myself reasonable and expect some issues with construction/remodeling projects, as I have done several over the years. Dust and dirt associated with the work are to be expected. This has nothing to do with dirt or dust but goes above and beyond what one should expect:A clear lack of respect for my property. Too much damage done to my house that was absolutely unnecessary: 1) Damaged Walls and Ceiling: - Numerous damages to the walls and wall corners ? including some deep scuffs in the walls that painting alone will not fix! - Some damage even extended to the ceiling!! 2) Windows and door frames are nicked I will need to have someone wood fill before paint 3.) Spilled floor urethane finish - I found spilled floor finish on the fire place tiles after they put down the first coat. I was able to remove with ?goof-off?. As a result I taped and covered the tiles. In general I am surprised that they did not tape/protect adjacent floors like the fire place tiles before applying the finish. - Urethane was also spilled over the tiles of my foyer (which was not part of the job), including on the floor and on the walls (!!). - There is some on my brand new stove in the kitchen as well. Need to figure out a way to remove the finish from the brand new stove without damaging it. Otherwise it cost me a replacement door. - More urethane was spilled in the garage 4.) Damaged aluminum cabinet baseboards Need to replace some aluminum cabinet baseboards in the kitchen ? This is very expensive to fix Now the job itself showed a lack of attention to detail: 5.) Floor registers not lined up - I had them install 4 floor registers. I am not sure why the floor registers are not lined up. Very noticeable, since the 4 are in row in front of bay windows 6.) Embedded Dirt and junks on floor finish - In some areas of the new floor, dirt got embedded with the finish. Some dirt seems to be dried finish product embedded and it is now forever embedded in the floor (and very noticeable) 7.) Cuts into strips - There are some 90-deg cuts into some of the planks. I noticed two when they still were working and asked them to fix it. The did it for some and forgot others. It should not up to me to notice those things ? they are supposed to be the pros. 8.) Carpet cutting - The new wood floor transitions to a carpeted area by a doorway. I asked for a transition without a T-strip/molding, which Mike said was no problem. When they did it they tore off some of the carpet going into the carpeted area instead of doing a clean cut. There is a missing piece of carpet now and the transition looks awful. I don?t think they put it a nail strip to hold the carpet down. 9.) Oversanding - Oversanding in some areas to the degree that the bevel (I have beveled strips) is completely gone. In some areas you can see indentions for no good reason. This damage can?t be repaired! It devaluates the floor, clear and simple. 10.) No sanding ? wrong order of installation of the toe kick (quarter round) - For whatever reason they installed the toe kick (quarter round) before sanding the floor. I have asked around, this is not how it is. As a result, the floor is not smooth close to the walls (I am talking one to two strips ? noticeable). Also, in some areas they sanded into the toe kick. As a result the toe kick needs to be wood-filled before painting. This is not even a complete list. For example they removed some doors to better work on the floor ? completely understand. But they did not come back to put them back. For the price I expected better quality and saying that I am disappointed with the additional work and expenses that this work will cause is an understatement. I have to shell the money for painting, fixing the window, and door trims. Potentially, the stove and more. Further I am not getting the value of this floor for resell. I contacted Mike and he came out to visit. He acknowledged most of the issues. Initially, he suggested to send a painter to do touch ups and to send his crew back to fix the dirt on the wood finish. However, I declined as the walls and ceilings can?t be just touched up. The walls need to be repainted. I don?t have the orginal paint and even so, touching up never looks good. He did not suggest how to fix the rest (i.e. oversanded wood, damaged trim,..). Frankly, I don?t want the crew back. They have done enough damage to my property. And their track record at my house suggests that they would not do any better. Mike proposed a $250 rebate. I told them that based on the work I have to do I am looking for more (as outlined above). Mike did not respond. My recommendation is not to use this company. UPDATE 2/11/13 - Response to Company's Response: Fabrication: 1. The owner even stated that since he was going to repaint the walls anyway, he was not too concerned Never stated or planned 2. walls already had knicks and marks throughout the rooms even before we started. Fully dispute this fact. What is the providers prove for this? 3. During which time he never complained about any step and even was happy to write a final check payment and told us he was going to write our company a good review. Not all true. In fact I was surprised that the crew suggested I should leave a good review. This way he gets a bonus!! 4. Damage assessment? He came to my house and acknowledged all issues I outlined above. He seemed rather stunned at my house about the extent of the damage. 5. He said someone he knew had a floor installed and paid a lot less than he paid. So, he felt he was overcharged Never made that statement. I laid out the damages to him and what it cost me to fix.

Response from Wizard Of Wood Floors Ltd
It is very sad what lengths people will go to in order to get money off of the bill. Let's start with the facts: The job was estimated in October of 2012 At which time, a discussion took place about the customized nature of the work needed to be executed. A new floor had to be woven or blended into an existing floor. The existing floor had some deep gouges that were discussed. In order to get rid of the gouges, a heavier sanding need to take place which would result in a flattening of some of the bevels. This was agreed upon. The walls already had knicks and marks throughout the rooms even before we started. As discussed with a tear out, there may need to be minor touch-ups to the walls. The owner even stated that since he was going to repaint the walls anyway, he was not too concerned. This is stated in the contract which was agreed to and signed in November of 2012. The work was begun on Dec.12th and finished on Dec. 15th, 2012. During which time he never complained about any step and even was happy to write a final check payment and told us he was going to write our company a good review. TWO WEEKS later, not a few days, not a week but two weeks later, he called up and wanted me to come out and take a look at the floor. So, upon walking into the home, I was bombarded with concerns as to why the owner never saw me on the job. I proceeded to explain that although I have a very talented staff to execute the work, I was often present to check on how things were going. Just because he didn't see me before he left for work early in the morning, did not equate to me not being there at all. He complained about knicks and marks all over: walls, windows and even the ceilings, REALLY? Then there were a few areas where the filler or putty came loose and was sucked out by the dust containment system. I told him that I would fix those areas and even have a painter come out to repaint— even though, many of these marks were there before we started AND even though he planned on repainting himself after the work was completed anyway. In good faith, I explained that we would take care of those few things and even take $250 off the bill. Then, THE REAL REASON FOR HIS COMPLAINTS CAME OUT. He said someone he knew had a floor installed and paid a lot less than he paid. So, he felt he was overcharged. I explained to him that every job is different and his job had alot of customization. So, he was not comparing apples to apples. He then flat out blackmailed me and stated that he wanted a $1500 refund in exchange for a good review. I told him absolutely not and stated that I went above and beyond by offering to fix the couple of concerns and even give him some money off the bill. He said, "No deal;". Hence the scathing review and manufactured laundry list of problems that most did not occur when we were on the job and many events did not take place at all. Thank goodness, we don't have to deal with customers without a conscious very often. Our business is based on our work ethic and reputation. Seriously, if we were this terrible we would not have been in business and busy for 35 years.

Plastic sheeting was taped to minimize dust and items were moved with care. A contained sander was used to remove the old surface and a new water based sealer was applied. There was some dust but nothing like I have heard from other systems of floor refinishing.
Description of Work: Excellent job of refinishing maple floors in the kitchen, hallways dining and family room of my home, which were showing a lot of wear and tear from two dogs, two toddlers and lots of sunlight streaming through floor to ceiling windows. The work was done in a day, professionally with a minimum (not complete absence) of dust. Everyone coming to the house comments how great the floors look, even six months later. Most definitely use these guys!

See above for the whole story. The floor is gorgeous!!
Description of Work: Wizard of Wood Flooring was a little tricky and more expensive than the Big Deal price. The Big Deal price was $125 per 100 SF. I had 143 SF (My fault, My increase) (43 SF = additional $107.50) + (Closet floor) + (additional fees for moving furniture, $40 per man hour) = (Total Job $305.00). I will say, the owner worked diligently with me, to cut as much off the bottom line as possible. It also involved them, traveling out to my place 3 times to complete the job and move the furniture. They did a wonderful job! It's just that the set price from the Big Deal, was not entirely accurate. Maybe the two entities were not communicating completely? All in All ... I am very glad I joined Angie's List! My bedroom floor is beautiful and I can now see where I am going at night, WITHOUT my cell phone for light!!! Every time I turn on a light or look at the floor, I am ECSTATIC! Thank you. Karen Z.

We got a deal on Angies and it covered all the sanding and restaining of our dining room floor. They matched it very well with our wood kitchen floor. It has held up well, is smooth. The only issue with quality is that some of the stain got on our white baseboards--you need to look up close to see but it is there. They were kind, courteous and professional.

Overall, fantastic. No problems or issues at all. Just beautiful, refinished floors. Very careful, professional, and skilled. Will call them again, no hesitation.
Description of Work: This company was superior! They did the best wood refinishing I have had done in 30 years of owning 3 homes with hardwood floors. Their job was better than the original company who installed the maple kitchen, hall, and powder room floor. Do yourself a favor and hire Wizard of Wood, you will not be disappointed.

The job went very smoothly and the guys went out of their way to refinish our wood floors in as little time as possible. The second morning they arrived at 6 am to put two more coats of sealant on so we could get back in the house that night. Very pleased with the whole process.
Description of Work: Mike came out to give me an estimate to refinish our wood floors. Well after dragging my feet we finally did it. The crew was very nice and did a fantastic job. We are very happy with the results of the water based coating. They really worked hard to get us back into our home as soon as possible. I have three kids and a dog so it was tough living out of a motel. I would definitely recommend them.

The two guys that they sent out were great and did their job really well. One thing that I would suggest is that they put a little more planning into the possibility of doing some repair work before the finishing was done. To the customer: Specify exactly any repair work you may want before the refinishing is completed.

First off I want to pay Wizard of Wood Floor the highest compliment, they work on your house as if they were working on their own house. They worked till the very last minute to make my floor as beautiful possible. The floor was a complete wreck and they turned it into a work of art. After the initial consult, the crew came to the house and worked diligently and gave me continual updates and advised me as to what areas they should work on in order to get the biggest bang for my buck. Their work ethic and group dynamic is the best I have ever seen. I look forward to working with them in the future.

They ruined my floors and now they won't return my calls. They came over and said they would fix it and now they won't call me back. The seal coating is coming off all of the floors now and it turned out that it was too early to fix the flooring that had the water damage so the floors are ruined now. After trying to reach them for 3 months, I finally got hold of somebody who I guilted into coming out. He said he would fix the refinishing for free. We had a disagreement about the water damaged part and he said that if I could find other people who said that he shouldn't have done it, he would fix it. I had 3 other companies come out and talked to the wood flooring institute and they all said the same thing. I sent him the documentation and now I've sent him 13 emails and 15 voice messages and he won't contact me. I sent him an email yesterday telling him to refund my money if he wasn't going to do the repairs. It is going to cost me $3,000 to have the repairs done. I basically have to have the whole house redone. I wouldn't recommend them to anybody. The work they did was bad and now they won't call me back.

Mike Galloway, the owner, came out to look at my project and I received a written estimate within 24 hours. I needed my old kitchen floor ripped out and new hardwood floors installed before my new cabinets were put in. I was originally told they were about two weeks out for scheduling jobs but when I explained my deadline, Mike rearranged his schedule and started the job the very next Monday, three days from my acceptance of the proposal! On the first day, two workers arrived in the early afternoon and got the old floor ripped out and the new oak floor installed. The next day they sanded, stained and sealed the floor with the first coat of Bona Traffic floor finish. After the cabinets were installed they came back out a couple weeks later and put the final coat of finish on the floors.
Description of Work: I had my old kitchen floor removed and new oak hardwood floors installed. The old tear-out consisted of a layer of vinyl self-stick tile on a top layer of 3/4" plywood, There were two layers of 3/4" plywood so they needed to cut out and remove just the top layer and nail new hardwood floors to the bottom layer. They also sanded, stained and applied two coats of Bona "Traffic" finish to the floor. There were four doorways that they had to work around, two of which required them to tie in the new hardwood to existing hardwood, one was leading to a stairway and the other an outer door.
