We had to match other rooms and had some material leftover from when they were orginally done. They were able to use the material we had (thus, decreasing the price) and provided solid, professional service. Pete installed the floors and did a wonderful, high-quality job.

They are absolutely fantastic. They are always on time. They're pricing may be a little expensive but their quality of work is outstanding. I had them do a maple wood refinishing in a church, which was a tough job, and it was fantastic. They are very responsive. I've been using them quite a while in our personal home and commercial and residential homes in the area.

I initially contacted Wizard of Wood via phone and received a callback the following day. Later that week Mike showed up at my house to take some measurements and explain the various processes he would be quoting. The following day I received a written quote via email. After being out of town that weekend I followed up with the office via email and also faxed over the signed quote and disclosure forms. At that point we started communication on scheduling, which was the only hassle of this project. Typically I would call or email and not get a call back or email back for 1-2 days. The first couple of conversations the lady at the office couldn't give me a firm date on when they could start. I told her I wanted the floors done before the Memorial Day weekend. This was nearly two weeks before the holiday. After a week or so of back and forth we were finally scheduled for Thursday 5/26, tenatively finishing on Friday 5/27. Unfortunately the job they were at before mine ran long so they didn't arrive until late in the afternoon of 5/26 and couldn't get started. This pushed the job into Saturday 5/28 and put a slight kink in our holiday weekend plans. Fortunately they were able to get their equipment unloaded in the garage and sand down a 2' x 2' area in order to provide some stain samples for me to look at. After deciding on the stain we wanted (Golden Oak) Mike told me he'd be back in the morning. Friday morning Mike and his assistant showed up bright and early as promised and had the floors sanded down by noon. I came home to check the stain color, which looked great. I also noticed that Mike had done a great job of hanging plastic sheeting up and covering my furniture, fish tank, etc in order to minimize the dust cleanup. They did a great job on that! After approving the stain color I went back to work and the guys finished staining and two coats of sealer that night. The following morning (Saturday) Mike and his assitant returned around 10:30 for the final coat. They were done with the last coat, cleaned up and on the road by noon. The final product looks wonderful! Mike was great to work with and very communative. He explained everything they were doing in great detail, and gave me the opportunity to approve all decisions that needed to be made. In my opinion he went above and beyond to make sure I was happy and make up for the scheduling snafu. He's an interesting guy, but did a great job and I wouldn't hesitate to use them again. Their pricing was very fair and we are extremely pleased with the final product. Even without the additional dust collection option the clean-up was minimal. My wife and I, along with a can of pledge and some paper towels, had our entire kitchen, living room and dining room clean within an hour or so.
Description of Work: Sanded down kitchen, dining room & foyer floors. Stained and finished with 3 coats of water-based sealer. The additional dust containment service was not used.

Everything went great. We felt the estimate was fair, and the scheduling went really quickly. Wayne and his crew were very easy to work with throughout the project. Considering we essentially had to clear out our entire first floor of our home to do this work, it couldn't have been a better experience. Wayne was very helpful with his suggestions and tips with weaving in the new wood, the color of the stain selection, and even the stair treads. I felt completely comfortable with his crew in our home for a week, and they were very professional and cleaned up after themselves daily. The project was completely on time, and we are very happy with the results. There was one area where we decided to install a bench in our kitchen, and we were only partially done when they started the project. Wayne offered to come back when we finished the bench to install the last piece of baseboard so it would all look streamlined. I thought that was excellent customer service.
Description of Work: We had our existing kitchen, bathroom, foyer oak wood floor refinished. Tore out carpeting in family room, dining room and living room, and stairs. Installed unfinished wood floors in those rooms, and new treads and risers on the stairs. Stained and finished all floors to match. Wove-in old floor in foyer to new floor in living room. Installed all new baseboards and toe-kicks. They also removed our kitchen island and finished the floor beneath it. (we did not want to replace the island).

They came home and gave me a written estimate. They took some time and came back to me, but that's fine; probably they could have emailed it to me. They were very professional. They themselves didn't have the showroom. I think you have to go to their distributor who would have a showroom. I would use them in the future.

Michael, the owner, came over the house to give us an estimate the day after we called to inquire about using his services. We decided to go with his firm after reviewing several positive reviews on Angie's List. They were able to start the work later that week. We had a little trouble deciding on the exact color we wanted for the floors. Wayne (the installer) patiently mixed colors several separate times for us to look at, never making us feel rushed. We are thrilled with the end result--the floors look gorgeous! They were very pleasant to deal with at all times, kept the house as clean and tidy as possible and were very responsible. Wayne kept us informed each step of the way. We have never experienced such hard workers--they worked for 17 hours on Saturday and were back to work the next day! The job was finished way ahead of schedule thanks to their amazing efforts. All I can say is wow! We were just so impressed with Wayne and his partner.

I liked everyone I dealt with at this company -- everybody was very nice, courteous, accommodating and punctual. The project didn't go quite as I'd hoped, however. I had several broken boards on my small kitchen floor (they'd just worn out over time), and the floor hadn't been refinished in over 10 years, so it needed a good sanding and refinishing. My two concerns were 1) the type of chemical used, and 2) being able to match the color of the new boards to the old boards that have faded darker over the years. I have a dog who's been known to lick the floor on occasion, so my hope was to use water-based product versus the scary poly-based stuff. (I know it's all chemicals, but supposedly the water-based product is less toxic. Who knows.) As for matching the color of the new boards to the old ones, I was told that they'd be able to dye the new boards to get the colors closer. My floor is old and far-from-perfect, so a perfect match wasn't necessary -- just a close match would have been fine. On the day they did the project, we discovered that the water-based product barely changed the color of the new boards at all. It almost did nothing to the color, actually. So we ended up having to use the stinky poly-based chemical, which colored the new boards a little darker. The colors are definitely closer than they would have been with the water-based product, but the difference it still noticeable. Particularly since all six of the new boards are together, so they make for a noticeable light patch in the center of the room. I'm told the new boards will fade darker over time. (The last time the floors were done was with the poly-based stuff, which I'm told caused the darkening of the wood, so I'm hopeful that the new boards with the poly on them will darken, too.) There are a few bubbles in the finish that I'm told will rub down as I walk on the floor over time. There are a few little hairs that, frankly, nobody will notice but me, but still disappointing. There was a very rough patch (felt like sandpaper) the size of a footprint that they came back a week later to repair -- that worked out fine. And there are subtle marks on the floor from where the refrigerator was rolled back into place (more noticeable at night under artificial light, but again, something probably nobody but me will notice.) The biggest disappointment is that there's a pretty big gap between the block of new boards and the old boards, right where I stand at the kitchen sink, so I see it every day. And more troubling is that one of the boards is actually uneven where it butts up to an old board. I'd attach photos, but I don't see a link to do that. (Plus, there's a small spec of wood or something stuck under the finish RIGHT next to the uneven seam, so if your eye is drawn to the uneven seam you're going to see the little foreign object, too. I'm sure they'd be happy to come back to sand it out and refinish that patch, but honestly, I don't have the energy to keep revisiting the project.) I chose Wizard of Wood because I liked everything I was told about the project, and their price was the best of all the estimates I gathered. But the end result is a bit of a bummer. I struggled about whether to indicate if I'd use this company again or not -- I'd be tempted to since everyone was so courteous -- but at the end of the day, I feel like I'd been told something that didn't turn out to be the case (that they'd be able to dye the boards darker while using water-based product), which seems like something they'd know beforehand from experience. And ultimately, the final result just isn't top-quality work. I wanted to give a higher grade -- I just can't.

I called Mike for an estimate. He drove out to my house after hours and on an emotional day to measure my house. Within a day or two he emailmed me the quote. I then did not contact him again for over a month, which was very rude of me. When I finally did, his office assistant drove samples out to my house so I could choose the wood and finish I wanted to install. In a very short time thereafter, the work began. The installer was awesome. He called me every day to tell me where in the process he was, what he planned to accomplish today and what would be done tomorrow. He never made an executive decision on his own. He made sure I was in the loop every step of the way which was great. He left me notes to say when he would be at my house the next day and he'd call before he left for the day. I never met this person. He was a stranger in my home and I felt very comfortable with him completeing the job. When all was said and done, I was nearly in tears with the end results. My home is beautiful. I could not be any happier with what this team has done. It's amazing and every day I wake up and say "I LOVE MY FLOORS!" Mike did not charge me extra for anything. He did exactly as he said and for exactly what he quoted. I would use this company again and recommend him to any one. Very trustworthy, extremely affordable and there was no stress on me. An excellent experience 100%. Thank you, Mike and team!

the floor had been scratched by the installer putting in the dishwasher. They were here from Monday till Friday. Mikey would keep me well informed of what he would be doing that day and if new problem can up he would give me information on that as well. By the end of the process I felt like they were almost family members. Easy to talk to and would stop and answer any questions I had about what they were doing to the floor.

We were able to get an estimate from Michael in a timely manner, it took a bit of followup to get us scheduled, but the work went as planned and in the time stated. The guys doing the work were great; they obviously knew their trade well, worked efficiently and the floors look wonderful. I was very pleased with the work, would definitely hire them again. Would probably ask for Wayne to come back, if possible; he really knew what he was doing. They used a swedish varnish on the floors, in my opinion, it's the best finish available; we had a different finish in our family room, and it has not held up nearly as well.
Description of Work: Michael had a crew out to sand and refinish our kitchen/laundry room hardwood floors. We had 3 coats of finish applied, as the kitchen is a high traffic area, and my experience is that it protects the floors better.

Mike arrived promptly for the estimate. He measured, told me my options, let me know he would e-mail me the quote, and that was it. Not pushy at all. I read the estimate, found it to my liking, and called to set up a date for the job to commence. They moved the furniture (additional expense), disconnected and reconnected all my electronic equipment (additional expense), and then restored my floors to a like new appearance. They are beautiful. The only negative was the odor. I wish Mike would have over stated the odor part about the Swedish finish. You can't stay in the house the first night. We went to a hotel. Had we planned that part out better, it could have been more fun. Everything else was great. Would use again without hesitation.

I emailed Wizards of Wood asking for an estimate. A woman from their office rang me back the next business day and scheduled an appointment for Wednesday 14 July at 12:00. No one arrived at or near 12:00, I received no phone calls or any communication from the vendor until 12:45 when the office called to inform me that the estimator was "stuck in traffic" and would arrive soon. I informed her that waiting until 45 minutes after the scheduled appointment to tell me that the estimator is running late in unacceptable and asked to reschedule for the next available appointment. I also asked her why she did not call me before the appointment to tell me that the estimator was running late, she claimed that she had rang, but that there had been no answer and that she had not left a voicemail because she thought that the estimator might already be there. I find this claim highly suspect seeing as I have records of all incoming calls both missed and received, from the day in question and the only call from Wizards of Wood shown by the system is the one that came in at 12:45. Also there were no unknown or unaccounted for calls during that day either as incoming or missed calls. Finally, the lack of understanding that she portrayed by her statement that she did not leave a voicemail because she thought that the installer was already there does not make sense... if she really thought that the installer was already there, then why was she calling to tell me that he was running late. I let all this drop, and she offered me an appointment at 3:00 pm on Wednesday 21 July, which I accepted. A few hours later, the Wizards of Wood office rang back and informed me that they had an opening at noon on the very next day, Thursday 15 July. I accepted the new appointment. On Thursday, the estimator did not show, nor was there a phone call or any other sort of communication from Wizards of Wood. Next, on Tuesday, 20 July, I received a call from the estimator at 12:30 informing me that he was "lost" and that his GPS was not giving him accurate directions to my home. I asked him why he had not come the previous Thursday as scheduled, and he informed me that his system showed a schedule of Tuesday, 20 July at 12:00. I told him that when they failed to show for the Thursday appointment I had decided to hire a different contractor. To summarize, this vendor made the following four errors with respect to my case: Did not show up on time for the first appointment, did not call to tell me that they were running late until 45 minutes after the appointment start time (or if they did, then they failed to leave a voice mail); failed to accurately reschedule the appointment; did not call to inform me that they were running late for the second appointment (even if I am to believe that the installer honestly believed that he was supposed to show up at 12 on Tuesday the 20th, why did he wait until 12:30 to tell me that he was "lost"). The work that I need done is complex and requires accurate estimates of time and scheduling. If this vendor messes up 4 times like this just trying to get an appointment for an estimate scheduled, and has their office tell me very suspect stories about phantom phone calls that they made but did not leave messages on, then there is NO WAY that I could even think about trusting them with the actual work.

Response from Wizard Of Wood Floors Ltd
We (Wizard of Wood Flooring) received the Member's email asking for an estimate and we called him the next business day to schedule an appointment. The office manager called him and set up an appointment for Wednesday July 14th and 12:00pm. We called him several times to let him know that the estimator would be arriving late and he did not answer each time we called. We did not wait until 12:45 to call him. The only mistake we made was not leaving a message to show proof. We made a minor mistake and corrected it. The office manager apologized and re-scheduled for Wednesday July 21st at 3:00pm. A few hours later an appointment opened up and we gave him the option of a sooner appointment for Thursday July 15th, at 12:00pm. He accepted that appointment with gratitude. The estimator showed up at the Member's home on July 15th and he told the estimator that he didn't schedule another appointment. If he didn't schedule another appointment then why did he say he did in his report? We are baffled by this report as we did everything in our power to accommodate his needs. Michael

We knew that we really wanted to get our hardwood floors refinished before we moved into our new house, since we thought it would be the best time to get the whole process done before we got furniture and everything moved in. We closed on our house on a Friday, and Mike was able to come over that day and give us an estimate. He also worked to arrange schedules so that we could start right away the following Monday, which was really great. We didn't expect to be able to get someone started so soon, and it was really exciting when he said that they would be able to start Monday and be done by Thursday. Since we weren't living in the house yet, we simply showed up on Monday morning to meet the work crew and show them around the house, and gave them a key. The crew that came was really knowledgeable and friendly, and offered us a few tips for the continued care of our floors and also helped to arrange to get one of our floor vents changed out to a matching oak vent at a reasonable price, which we thought was really nice. After they were finished sanding the floors, they put a few different finishes on a small portion of the floor so we could come out and see which one we wanted. Since we were living further away at that time, we just came after hours and left them a note for the next day saying which one we liked, which we thought was very convenient. The crew working on the house was great about keeping in touch with me via cell phone to keep me updated on how the work was going. One day, the guy who was applying the finish called me and told me he was sick and couldn't make it out that day. I was worried that the job wouldn't be finished on time for us to move in, but he assured me that the floors would be ready for us to move in on Saturday. He took this so seriously that he came out and stayed at the house until almost 10pm on Thursday night and came back out SUPER early on Friday morning and finished up the last coat to ensure it would be dry for us to move in on Saturday. We really appreciated them working to stay on schedule for us. After the fact, we noticed that they had forgotten to take some carpet away and that there was a small run in the finish in the bedroom. They came right back out and fixed it, with no problem or complaint. The floors look really great and so far we've had no problems whatsoever. We have two dogs who run around a ton and there hasn't even been a dent in the finish. We get a lot of compliments on the floors, and Wizard of Wood Floors was able to help us achieve the nice natural light look we were hoping for. Definitely a great experience - recommended!!
Description of Work: Wizard of Wood Floors came and refinished all of our oak hardwood floors in our new house before we moved in. They sanded, and applied four coats of Street Shoe. A few cracked boards were also replaced. They also removed and hauled away two rooms worth of carpet.

Our project was fairly large, consisting of our entire first floor living area and we couldn't be happier with choosing Wizard of Wood Floors for our hardwood flooring project. From the initial estimate meeting through the finished project Mike and his team were professional, friendly, informative and courteous. Mike was great to work with and we feel extremely happy that we had Pete as our installer. Pete and the on-site crew were dedicated to perfection and in our eyes, Pete was an artist when it comes to installing and finishing floors. Communication throughout the project was excellent. Any questions we had during the project were immediately forwarded to Mike, and answered in a timely manner. Even after the job was finished, Mike and the crew were quick to respond to questions, Pete even came out to repair a couple of scratches in our Living Room caused by an incident with our dog. We are thrilled with our new floors, and pleased with the crews professionalism and workmanship. We would recommended Wizard of Wood Floors and we planning and we will be calling Mike first when we plan the second phase of our project.
