Description of Work: The Century Tile I used is located on Rand Road in Mt. Prospect. They removed my old kitchen flooring and underlayment and installed a new underlayment, flooring, and trim. I am delighted with the installation. The installer worked very hard and cleanly. I would highly recommend--a great value for the price. (I had quotes from other "A" listed companies up to $3200.) One note on my "B" rating on Responsiveness. The installer was very responsive. They arranged the installation to be convenient for me. The response time from the salesperson was a little slow (perhaps because he knew I wouldn't be installing immediately?). He now knows what a Certificate of Insurance is. When he checked with one of the owners, I was immediately emailed the Cert. All in all it was a stress-free, satisfying and professional install.

Jack at Century Tile was the salesman I worked with. The tile selection and service was outstanding. Jack was very knowledgeable and was able to educate me about the different types of tile and recommend what I should use in the bathroom I loved that I could bring home a bunch of different samples. They are also very flexible about accepting returns of partial cases of tile.

I genuinely wish that I had not purchased anything from Century Tile in Mt. Prospect. Three years ago, my husband and I were shopping for carpet and went there; we walked out because the salesperson was so pushy and rude. I wish I had done the same thing this time. In June of this year, our house flooded and our carpet was soaked, so we were in a hurry to have it removed and replaced before mold set in. We went to Century Tile; our initial salesman was almost unbearably pompous and superior ("I wouldn't have THAT carpeting in MY house"). So, we left. We returned a few days later because we hadn't been able to find anyone who could install in a quicker time. This time, our salesman was just plain incompetent. After we placed our order, THEN he told us it'd be 2 1/2 weeks to install. A few days later, when I hadn't heard from him, I called only to be told he hadn't actually written down the carpet information and that I had to come in. "Are you SERIOUS?"I asked him. He replied, "If you want the right carpet, you do." I thought that was rude, and actually, I thought he should drive out to our house with the sample book instead. Anyway, I went out AGAIN, and gave him the order. After THAT, he called to tell me that I needed to pay a flat fee for carpet removal instead of the per foot price quoted in the store. When I pointed out that the sale was done, and that the price was final, he said, "Well, that's what the installer is charging and that's what you're going to have to pay." Of course, I refused. A few days after that, he called again, implying that I needed to pay the whole price upfront. Again, I refused. In the end, it took more than a month to get the carpet installed. Like I said, I only have myself to blame because I knew from previous experience that I didn't want to do business with them so, if you don't have to, don't.
Description of Work: We purchased carpet.

Everything is not back together yet but they do a very fast job and it looks very nice. Their speed stood out. They did the work in 2 1/2 days. I was happy with their clean up when they were done. They used a sub to do the work. They were very proficient and had experienced crews. I had called another company and it was going to take them a week. This is my only bathroom so the 2 1/2 days was very important to me. They are a large tile company so their buying power was very good, so the tile was very reasonable. The price was pretty good. They came out on a Saturday to clean out the drain because it was clogged before they started the work.
Description of Work: I used Century Tile to install tile and do flooring. They did a whole bathroom rip out with new floor, tile and shower.

We hoped Century would provide a selection of wood flooring, ceramic tiles and installation for us, but we were completely disappointed. Many fine choices and reasonable prices led us there. Their computer system is cumbersome, so it took 15 minutes to simply check out a sample. They charged a deposit for each one. One salesperson became very testy about us returning the sample within 48 hours, despite the fact that we had 24 hours left on that sample. The salesperson we ended up asking for by name was very knowledgeable and helpful. We selected and ordered hardwood flooring. It arrived in the warehouse a day late. Our contractor picked it up. When he opened the boxes after the curing period, the pieces were warped. The store manager was very good about accepting the return and issuing us a credit. We had hoped to use Century Tile's installer but his prices were too high, and they charged us for getting his estimate. Overall, a frustrating and time-consuming experience.
Description of Work: Bought hardwood flooring that turned out to be defective. Took home samples of ceramic tile, but ultimately bought that elsewhere.

This review should actually be divided into 2 sections: one for Century Tile, the retail outlet from which we purchased the tile for our foyer, and one for American Flooring, the company to whom they sub-contract the actual installation. My ratings reflect the experience with both companies. Our experience with Century Tile was very positive, and I thought that Jean, the woman who worked closely with us to help select the tile, schedule with the sub-contractor, and generally handle all the details regarding the sale, was extremely effective. She was prompt in getting back to us with details about the work, and pleasant in all her dealings with us. After making the initial payment and discussing the job with Jeff, the contact person at American Flooring, I was a bit concerned about the job that might ultimately be done. This was especially true when I learned that one of the installers was apparently a 5-year apprentice! However, the two young men (Juan and Manuel) who came to install the tile were truly experts. They arrived at the appointed time on the day required for the installation, and immediately went to work on the floor, first drilling screws in the base flooring to be certain that the floor was fully secure and did not “squeak”. I assume that this is necessary to ensure a good base for the actual tile. They then placed the various layers (Wonderboard underlayment, laticrete, etc.), and expertly placed the ceramic tile on top. I was extremely impressed with the sections that had to be cut in order to be flush with the area that abutted onto the next room, and I was also impressed with the fact that the tiles were laid perfectly straight. They returned the next morning, again on time, and applied the grout, cut the metal thresholds and the oak reducer that needed to be installed, and replaced the baseboards, all with very expert precision. Despite my earlier misgivings after speaking a few times with Jeff, I was extremely pleased with the final job. My concern about Jeff was based on the fact that, when coming to do the initial measurements, he actually called 8:00 pm to come to the house for this purpose. When he called again at about 9:00 pm to say that he was on his way (!!), I told him that although some people may do business at that time of night, none of them lived at my address, a statement that seemed to annoy him. However, my overall experience with Century Tile, with the two young men who installed the flooring and with the appearance of my foyer now that the job is complete, was quite positive.

From the beginning, my husband and I were extremely pleased with the service and attention we received fromJean, the woman we worked with at Century Tile in Mundelein. She spent considerable time with us, on a number of repeat visits we made to the store, and explained the details of the material we chose, as well as the installation process, in great detail. Since I am quite a perfectionist, if I do say so myself, I thought that I might ultimately get on her nerves. Nothing of the sort EVER happened. My husband and I visited the store a number of times, with countless questions and concerns, and at all times, Jean was extremely helpful, patient and professional. When the flooring was ultimately installed, my husband and I were OVERJOYED with the final result, and that was due to the professional expertise of Ken, the installer from American Flooring who prepared the floor and laid the vinyl. He not only installed the material, but added the trim around the baseboards, which my husband had purchased separately. The charge for this additional service was only $85.00, and was done in a completely professional manner! My husband and I could not be more pleased! We will now use Century Tile for the installation of ceramic tile in our foyer. Kudos to Jean, Ken and all the staff at Century Tile in Mundelein, IL!!! Frankly, my husband and I had initially visited Home Depot with the intention of having them install our flooring. We had the exact opposite experience, in comparison to the excellent experience at Century Tile. Never Again!! In the future, we'll go with Century Tile every time!
Description of Work: Vinyl flooring was installed in our kitchen. A great deal of discussion was held before the installation was finalized, and both my husband and I were EXTREMELY impressed with the service we received.
