 + -1 moreWe were very pleased with this service provider. We selected One Stop Intercom based on reviews from AL members who wrote that One Stop had fixed doorbell problems similar to ours. We live in a 6-flat building in which ours was the only doorbell that was not working. We had been having problems off and on for years, and no one had been able to fix it. We called One Stop and made an appointment and Jay Walthall arrived right on time, was very friendly and explained everything he was doing as he worked. He first checked the main control board in the basement and found that the main volume control was not all the way up. He turned it up to full volume, which was an improvement, but still didn't make our bell ring loud enough. He then took apart the intercom box in our unit and determined that the speaker was very old and almost burnt out. He replaced the unit with a new one that he had in his truck, and our doorbell and intercom have been working perfectly ever since! He completed the job within the minimum time for the service call and the charge including parts was $114. We really appreciated both Jay's friendly personality and the fact that he was very knowledgeable and capable - turns out he has previously done work in other old buildings right on our block. At least two other electricians and handymen had been unable to figure out the problem (never even located the main control board), and had told us that we would probably need to replace the system for the whole building at a cost of over $1000. We are so glad that we could finally get this fixed, and we would definitely call One Stop again and recommend them to anyone. Thanks so much Jay!

 + -1 moreWONDERFUL!!! Jay responded immediately to my request and showed up the next day to look at our issue. We recently moved into to our place and didn't know much about the intercom system. I'm a little embarrassed to say the problem was an unplugged box. Jay took the time to explain how the system worked and since he was already here he took the intercom apart to ensure it was working correctly. He made some tweaks and in no time at all had the system working perfectly. Jay will be the only person I call in the future for intercom issues!
Description of Work: Repaired front gate buzzer and corrected sound issues.

 + 1 moreFANTASTIC!! We had another fim - top-rated here on AL - come by to repair a broken door buzzer in our 6 unit condo building this past summer. Their repairs worked for awhile, but then all of our buzzers became inoperative - a major inconvenience and security issue for sure, so we wanted it repaired ASAP. The other firm had given us an estimate to replace our junction box at something like $900, and could not come out until 48 hours later. So I called Jay at One Stop Intercom. Jay was able to come out the next day. He quickly assessed what the problem was (and showed me what was going on). Jay had to go to a vendor for a new door striker, but the whole repair took 60-90 minutes and cost me $191.50 to repair vs. $900 to replace. I don't meant to dis the other firm too badly. I think that they simply did not know door buzzers as intimately as someone who specializes in them. Lesson learned - always try a specialist over a generalist. That specific knowledge can save a lot of time and trouble - and in my case, a TON of money!

 + -1 moreIn our 12-unit condo building, the intercom system was not working on the south side of the building. We could talk to people at our door, but could not let them in electronically. Within two days of contacting One Stop Intercom, I received a call and arranged for a site visit for information on whether we needed to replace or repair our system. Initially, it was thought we'd need to replace the system at a cost of about $2300. Jemal decided there was something he could try first that would be less expensive. Two days later he returned to try the repair. This repair didn't work but by that time Jemal had a PLAN B. Lucky for us, this experienced guy was able to find a solution to our problem - using PLAN B - at a cost of $260 (just over 10% of the replacement cost). He said this repair should last us for many years to come. I would call One Stop Intercom again in a heartbeat!

 + -1 moreWe scheduled an estimate for replacing our Intercom system, and after a few missed phone calls, Jay was able to come to our house and provide an estimate and some different options. We chose the option that included the iPod and CD player and scheduled the work, which was to be completed in one day. Jay and his colleague arrived at our house on time, and needed the full day to remove the old units, and install the new system (one master console, four room units, one front-door unit and one deck/patio unit). Jay did have some problems with re-using the wiring of the old unit and it took some time (plus one extra trip to Home Depot to get extra parts) to make the unit fully operational and safe. Jay did not charge us for the extra time or cost of the minor parts to complete the wiring process. They took care to clean up the house when they were completed, and sat down with us to go through the instruction book and set up the unit properly, and tested each unit in our presence before leaving. We were very happy with the finished product and would be very happy to recommend One Stop Intercom for any other similar needs.

We had a really old outside panel and he was surprised it lasted as long as it did. One of our inside panels was also very old and he replaced that, as well. Very reasonably priced. Everything is working much better now! HIghly recommend!

 + -1 moreWe were very happy with the service and will absolutely call Jay should the system need more work. The fact that Jay didn't jump on replacing the entire intercom system was refreshing. We do assume it will need replacing at some point since it is very old and One Stop Intercom will be the company to do it.
Description of Work: Our condo has been experiencing problems with our intercom system at one of the entrances. After waiting weeks for a quote from a "security" company for repair or replace we contacted Jay at One Stop Intercom. He came out the next day and arrived at the time he said he would. Jay assessed the situation and said we needed a new panel. The charge for this repair was very reasonable and he started to work. I asked him what plan B would be if this was not the problem. Jay said there was no need for plan B.

There was no service fee for an estimate and an assessment which was apart of my criteria. From my previous use of the yellow pages I had never received a service of a free estimate. Everyone wanted to quote me how much it would cost per hour. He completed the work witin budget and replaced all nessasary componets without going over. I was very pleased with the outcome.

The owner, Jay, came out within 2 days, explained the system he had in mind for us, and then sent a written proposal the next day. We accepted the proposal, mailed in a deposit of 50% down and the unit was installed within a week. He always kept in close contact and we meet him in the lobby on the day he scheduled our installation. He was right on time, went right to work and was extremely courteous and professional. After installation, he verbally went over the instructions for using the system with the board members and told us to call him, without hesitation, should we run into any programming issues down the line. I would highly recommend Jay because of his professionalism, the quality of the product he sold to us and the very competitive price.

 + -1 moreI unfortunately didn't have any service completed by One Stop Intercom because after Jay came out to do the initial review of the unit/issue he never followed up or called me back. After a couple of weeks went by I emailed him to ask about the follow up for an assessment of our issue and quote of replacing the system and he never wrote me back. He was very responsive before the initial appointment so it is odd and disappointing that he never followed up after. Unless something out of the ordinary happened with him or his business I can only assume that he decided that our job was out of his comfort zone. I got the impression that he normally worked on intercom systems for larger buildings and our intercom was for a three unit walk up with video surveillance and it seemed that he was not very familiar with our kind of system. Nevertheless he had promised to do some research and get back to us. Never happened. The interaction I had with him before he failed to follow up was positive so I would expect that he could still be a good service provider. In our case unfortunately we didn't have a good experience because he failed to follow through which wasted my time of course.
Description of Work: No services actually performed. Had him come out to tell us if he could fix or replace our intercom system on a three unit building. He came to look at the unit but after saying he would follow up with options for replacement he never did.

 + -1 moreDon't hire Jay if you need accurate and timely repair service to a intercom/buzzer entry system. Jay has a friendly demeanor and seems to know what he's doing, but my experience with his work proved otherwise.
Description of Work: Jay replaced the intercom/buzzer mechanism that releases the entry door latch at my office when visitors buzz and we allow them access via our phone system. The new mechanism worked for less than a week, then had to be replaced again. Jay's associates came back out just before the July 4th holiday and replaced the buzzer mechanism and the door strike. They said the electricity that powers the door strike was too powerful for the type of buzzer mechanism that Jay previously installed. It required a different type of mechanism. They installed what looks like a door bell button that was compatible with the wattage. This new mechanism worked for two months, then failed. Two weeks ago, after several calls to Jay, he finally came by and fixed the button. However, now, the door strike doesn't work efficiently with the button, so there's no way to buzz any visitors in. I've called Jay several times on his cell phone and left messages. I've also left a message his office voice mail. None of my phone calls to either Jay's cell or office have been returned to me. The buzzer/door strike is still non-functional. I find Jay to be very professional, pleasant and generally accommodating when he's here on site. But, the lack of return phone calls and an the unsatisfactory repair work leaves me feeling less than pleased. Two and a half months after the initial service date, I still have the same problem that I originally contacted Jay to fix. My home condo building has hired him in the past for gate/buzzer repair...and, we've had good results. But, this experience, lack of response, and ultimately, lack of good service leaves me where I started three months ago...with a disfunctional intercom buzzer system. As a result, I'm wondering how Jay ever got listed on Angie's List in the first place?

He spent more time than expected for the job because he could not locate the amplifier which would have helped him know how to wire the system. In addition, someone had tried to fix it before and had messed up all the wires so that made the job take longer as well. Even though he was at our place for 2 hours, he only charged us for the hour that it should've taken to complete the job!

He didn't try to sell me on things like the last repair company nor did he over charge me and arm and a leg (which is why i didn't call them back). I wish i had used him first before the other guy.

 + -1 moreJay was great. Responded very promptly. I made an introduction via email to my tenant. The two of them set a time and date. He arrived on time. Rather than replace the system I had with a fixed wire system (which I was prepared to do), he quickly identified the problem as a wiring issue and simply made the repair. The volume had always been too low on intercom unit out at our gate, and he also was able to adjust that. Something that - I kid you not - four other various service people had been unable to do. Two electricians, an alarm installation specialist, and media wiring guys...none of them understood intercoms. It was great to have a specialist. My tenant wrote me back about how happy she was with the service. Highly recommended.
Description of Work: Repair a telephone-based intercom system that had been screwed up by the VOIP telephone provider during their installation...but frankly, that had never worked very well. Because, let's face it, nobody specializes in intercom systems. That's why I was excited to find One Stop Intercom.

He was happy to work with my difficult schedule and quickly completed the work. When we had an issue with one of the intercoms, he came right out and took a look at it and made the quick repair.
Description of Work: Jay moved the intercoms from the interior of the building to the exterior of the building. He extended the run of wires and installed new electric switches on the door jambs.

Kept me updated while we waited on parts. Would hire him again in a heartbeat and lucky to have found such a great vendor!
