We had a phone conversation regarding insulation possibilities. They were not particularly helpful and so we went no farther with this company.

Price seemed fair, but they don't do duct work and attic fan repair. They recommended a company for those tasks, but rather than hire two contractors I hired a company that could do the insulation as well as duct work and fan repair.

Everything went very smoothly. The appointment was easy to set up and they were on time. They were very helpful explaining what was best for my situation. For example, rolled was chosen over blown insulation because I'm eventually planning to gut some 2nd floor rooms and this way the insulation won't fall down. That advice alone is why I hired a pro. Basically, they answered all my questions knowledgeably and did a fast, excellent job. And after they were done there were no cracks in my fragile plaster ceilings!
Description of Work: Installed 600 sq feet of rolled insulation the attic of our 100 year old house.

I called Wilkin based on other customer reviews in Angie's List. I was delighted that to find that when calling Wilkins - you don't have to deal with leaving a message on a machine. (Unless the office is closed.) Larry Borski came to the house within a couple of days of my first call. He was very professional and pleasant. He was also very thorough with his estimate. He even had money saving suggestions. When his crew came to do the work, they too were professional and polite. They took care of my house as if it were their own. They took the extra time to do everything very well. They also took great care to restore anything that had needed moving and clean up after their work. I can definitely feel a difference now on the 2nd floor and the attic is cool and not warm from escaping warm air from the floors below. I have already recommended Wilkins Insulation to other friends. When I'm on to working on another section of the house I will be using Wilkins again.
Description of Work: I have a 100+ year old 2 flat that I have been slowly rehabbing. I've always had a problem with losing heat in the winter despite the new windows. It became apparent that I needed both blown-in insulation for the majority of my outside walls and for between the 2nd floor ceiling and attic floor.

Two workers showed up early as agreed on Nov 30th. The whole job took about an hour and a half. They put down plastic to avoid tracking in dirt prior to starting. The job when smoothly with no dirt brought into the house. After they were done, they explained in full detail what they did and answered my questions.
Description of Work: I had Baffles and insulation brought to R38 code in my attic.

The salesman that came out for the quote was thorough, knowledgeable, and personable. While here, he pointed out a couple other things we could do to better insulate our house. The quote was 20% less than another high-ranking outfit on this list. The crew showed up on time and was very courteous, clean and efficient. Overall a very good experience.

I am very happy with the job they did. The crew was very nice- prompt, professional, clean (they even laid plastic in the hallway to protect my carpeting). The guys did a great job blowing in 12" of insulation in the attic. I can tell the difference already. Thank you Wilkin! You have another happy customer.
Description of Work: I purchased a 50 year old house with the original insulation in the attic (very little insulation.) The home inspector told me I should get 12" of insulation ASAP. I quoted 3 companies and went with Wilkin. (Their Angie's list 5-Star reports helped me decide) and I am very happy with my decision to go with Wilkin.

Was a little turned off by the first call to discuss getting an estimate when they mentioned a fee to do the inspection and estimate. When I balked at that they said they would waive the fee, but the idea of it left a bad taste. Person who did estimate was 45 minutes late when I called to check on him. He was lost a couple miles from me. Wondered if they heard of Mapquest! Estimator was knowledgeable and quote was fair, but I was just more comfortable with the other company and owner so went with them.

Description of Work: They came out to bid on insulating my 1920s Tudor with steep roof. I had a 10 degree difference with upstairs much colder than the first floor. There was only R11 in the attic and they bid to increase to R-30 and R-40 with blow in fiberglass as well as batting as needed.

Great! We had a horrible time finding an insulation contractor. Many didn't call us back and those that did said it would be weeks before they could even give us an estimate. One company came out and gave us an estimate for $20k! Larry sent guys out the next day to give us an estimate. They were very professional, arrived on time and Larry got us an estimate the next day. They dropped off insulation a day prior to our scheduled service, then showed up first thing the next day and finished it all in one day. I would highly recommend them to anyone!
Description of Work: Insulation for a 3-flat rehab. Only insulated open areas that were accessible. As it is a rehab, some lath from the old plaster did not allow access to all openings. Work included all basement exterior wall insulation. 3rd floor ceiling insulation. The areas that were framed in where insulation was easily accessible.

Kip Sobaski of Wilkins Insulation came to our house and helped troubleshoot the problem we have with ventilation in our attic. He was honest and saved us money by showing us that insulation is not the problem but rather the poor job the roofing company had done, and the standard household fan they had installed instead of a professional grade fan meant for attics.

Insulation was removed from the attic rafters and placed between the floor joists. Additionally, new Fiberglas insulation was blown into the attic. Workers were very professional and clean during the installation/repositioning process. Wilkins was responsive in providing a quote for the job, however, material delivery took approximately 1 month due to unavailability/high demand this winter. Due to lack of cellulose material (originally ordered), Fiberglas option was provided at the same price. The price for the project was cheaper than purchasing rolled insulation and installing ourselves. We asked about insulating existing exterior walls and they recommended against it due to thinness of the space. We appreciated their honesty and integrity. We recommend their services.

I called to make the initial contact. Someone returned my call in a few days and we scheduled a time for him to come and give an estimate. The estimator arrived right on time and gave me a written estimate, with an explanation of what needed to be done. His prediction of how long it would be before I was contacted to schedule the work was actually a bit longer than it really took (3 weeks). Scheduling was done, the crew arrived on time and was finished in less than 90 minutes. They were friendly, and very protective of my wood floors.

Larry came out for the quote, was very professional, and polite. He was very knowledgeable, and I immediately felt comfortable with him, and the company he represents. The workmen (2) showed up on time, finished the job quickly, and with no mess to speak of. They also cleaned up after themselves adequately. They were very polite, and professional. I am very happy with the job, the price, and I would use them again. I would recommend them to anyone needing insulation attention.
Description of Work: Insulated entire attic of my house. Used cellulose insulation that was blown-in. They laid approximately 15" of insulation, boxed-in the attic door, attached batting to it, and straightened out the existing batting that I had already had before blowing in the new insulation. The job took approximately 2 hours to do from beginning to end, and they cleaned up after themselves.

I CANNOT EXPRESS HOW HAPPY I AM WITH WILKIN INSULATION. LEE HAS 18 YEARS EXPERIENCE AND IT SHOWED WHEN HE CREATED AN ACCESS HOLE IN AN UPSTAIRS CLOSET INSTEAD OF ON MY KITCHEN CEILING. HE KNEW IMMEDIATELY WHAT TO DO WHEN OTHER ESTIMATORS NEVER EVEN MENTIONED CREATING THE ACCESS HOLE IN A CLOSET. BEFORE CLOSING BOTH THE ATTIC AND THE NEW ACCESS HOLE (WHICH WAS TRIMMED OUT BEAUTIFULLY), HE HAD ME COME UP AND INSPECT BOTH AREAS AND EXPLAINED IN DETAIL WHAT WAS DONE. THE CUSTOMER SERVICE, CARE AND CLEAN UP WERE OUTSTANDING. THE PRICE WAS GREAT TOO; MUCH LESS THAN OTHER ESTIMATE. I'M SO HAPPY!
Description of Work: INSULATE (CELLULOSE) ATTIC AND CREATE ACCESS TO INSULATE ABOVE KITCHEN AND DINING ROOM AREA. THERE WAS NO ACCESS TO GET INSULATION ABOVE THE KITCHEN AND DINING ROOM AREAS, SO ONE NEEDED TO BE MADE AND TRIMMED OUT.

STEVE(?) CAME OUT TO GIVE ESTIMATE. WAS VERY HONEST ABOUT WHAT THEY WOULD NOT RECOMMEND (BLOWING INSULATION INTO WALLS), AND WHAT THEY COULD DO. MY IMPRESSION - IT WAS MORE A MATTER OF WHAT THEY ARE GOOD AT WHICH IS FINE. ESTIMATE WAS COMPETITIVE WITH OTHER BIDS. THE WORKERS (2) SHOWED UP ON THE AGREED DAY AND EVEN A LITTLE EARLY. THEY WERE VERY QUICK AND EFFICIENT - INSTALLED THE BAFFLES AND BLEW IN THE INSULATION - EVEN BLEW IN A LITTLE MORE THAN WAS REQUIRED. ALSO VERY NEAT - LAID DOWN PLASTIC TO PROTECT CARPETS AND CLEANED UP AFTER. THEY COULD HAVE PAID JUST A BIT MORE ATTENTION TO DETAIL - I WENT UP TO INSPECT AFTER THEY WERE GONE AND NOTICED THEY HAD FILLED IN AND AROUND THE VENT FOR THE KITCHEN FAN WHICH VENTS INTO THE ATTIC - COULD HAVE CAUSED A BIG PROBLEM. THERE WERE ALSO EXISTING BOARDS LAID ON THE RAFTERS AND THEY JUST BLEW RIGHT ON TOP OF THEM BUT NOT UNDER. OVERALL A GOOD JOB AT A FAIR PRICE.

OVERALL, THE REPRESENTATIVE I HAD CONTACT WITH AT THIS COMPANY WAS RUDE AND CHALLENGING IN HIS ATTITUDE. I THINK IT WAS COMPLETELY UNACCEPTABLE TO ASK A CONSUMER TO PUT A HOLE IN THEIR CLOSET WALL BEFORE YOU'LL EVEN CONSIDER COMING OUT TO GIVE AN ESTIMATE. ISN'T IT HIS JOB TO EVALUATE MY HOME AND MY NEEDS?
Description of Work: I CALLED TO ASK FOR AN ESTIMATE AND SPOKE TO A SERVICEMAN WHO SOUNDED DUBIOUS WHEN I SAID I WANTED INSULATION BLOWN INTO THE WALLS OF MY 1890'S HOME. HE SAID I SHOULD MAKE SURE THE WALLS WERE A STANDARD 2 X 4, TOLD ME TO DRILL IN A CLOSET TO MAKE SURE, AND THEN CALL THEM BACK. I FOUND HIM TO BE RUDE, BUT CHECKED WITH MY NEXT DOOR NEIGHBOR WHO IS A RETIRED ENGINEER AND HANDYMAN, AND HAS DONE SEVERAL PROJECTS IN MY HOME, WHO SAID, "OF COURSE YOUR WALLS WERE BUILT WITH 2X4'S, THAT'S STANDARD". I CALLED BACK, LEFT A MESSAGE. HE CALLED BACK AND ASKED ME TO PAGE HIM. I DID SO AND HE NEVER CALLED BACK. I WAS GLAD, BECAUSE SEVERAL OTHER INSULATION COMPANIES ON THIS LIST HAVE BEEN EXTREMELY COURTEOUS AND RESPECTFUL. THE SERVICEMAN AND WILKIN OBVIOUSLY DIDN'T NEED OR WANT THE WORK, AND WERE RUDE IN THE PROCESS.
