They are excellent! They deconstructed the loose bricks and did a beautiful job replacing them and pouring a new chimney cap. They also replaced about 10 bricks in other places. They are fast, neat, and actually fixed a few other bricks that they found to be loose. A pleasure to work with!

This is the third time I have worked with Hynek. This time around, he replaced 4 rusted out lintels and around 40 common Chicago bricks that got damaged because of the bad condition of the lintels. Hynek was able to perform the work in a day and the quality of the work speaks for itself. Hynek is easy to work with and communicates well.

We have used Hynek Construction twice. Both times we were very satisfied with the quality of the work and the overall experience. They do what they say they are going to do, do it when they say they are going to do it, and charge affordable prices. Would definately use again.

It did not go well. I received two proposals which appeared to be almost identical in scope and price. I chose Hynek Construction because of the number of positive reviews on Angies' List. Their competitor ( I'm not sure if I am allowed to mention them but they are on Angies List and their name starts with a J and ends with a P ) also had primarily positive reviews, just less overall reviews. My complaint is with the work performed, and the materials used. On inspecting the completed project I noticed that some cracks in the mortar on the north and south walls of the building had not been addressed. Hynek said that he hadn't noticed them. I found this odd because one crack extends a matter of feet not inches ! He then corrected that statement saying that he may have mentioned them in a text to me, but not in the contract proposal. The other contractor's proposal reads "Spot grind and tuck point South, West and North elevations where needed" Hynek's reads "Major cracks on front West building elevation and brick work above stone base on North and South building elevation... which Hynek said only referred to one course of bricks. Having completed the project, ( in his estimation ) he then offered to take care of the cracks for an additional $2000 ! My other issue concerns the materials used. The contract called for the use of Vulkem-116 caulking "to repair gap between concrete sidewalk/step and building on South Elevation". It appears his masons ran out of the caulk, because in parts they used mortar instead. This will inevitably crack and break down as the ground freezes and thaws. In fact a repair that Hynek made between the concrete step and the stone work on the front of the building has already started to crack and break apart just two months after the work was done. Hynek has made no offer to either complete the project nor to correct the mistakes.

Response from Hynek Construction
Customer called me on June 20, 2018 regarding tuckpointing on more than 100 years old rental property at [Member Information Removed] Chicago. I sent customer written Estimate June 22, 2018 specified $2,700.- Grind out with hand grinder cracks (3/4" deep) and tuckpoint where necessary front West Elevation major cracks, stone work base on North and South Elevations and brick work above stone base North and South Elevations. I received signed proposal from customer by fax July 5, 2018. I called customer on August 18, 2018 saying we are ready for tuckpointing project and I met with customer next starting project day walking together and pointing out every spot which we will be working on. We ended up with 75% tuckpointing on North and South stone base and we tuckpointed approximately 5 brick courses above stone base, front West Elevation approximately 10 major cracks. Also according to written proposal, we repaired approximately 2-3" wide gap between concrete sidewalk and stone base. In some places the gap was approximately 10" deep. We have filled the deep gaps with mortar deep enough to apply caulking on top. I wish the gap was much smaller so we could have used backer rod instead of mortar. Before my company, customer hired concrete company where they replaced front concrete steps, but they have made them too short. It was approximately 4" gap between limestone stone stoop and concrete landing, only option was to repair with mortar which I know will crumble. I told the customer the best way to fix the gap on side is to replace whole concrete work on the side and cover the difference (gap) on front with Unilock landscape blocks on top of the landing. I sent an invoice to a customer on August 25, 2018 by regular mail meaning project is done. I have sent couple of invoices (during month and a half). Then I have received phone call from customer complaining, that the job is not done (regarding cracks on 1st and second floor on North and South Elevation) saying other companies have on their proposal spot tuckpointing on North and South Elevation from top to bottom where needed which I had on my proposal only on stone base and above. Yes, I didn't see this cracks on 1st and second floor during Estimate date. Yes, customer and I walked through at start date not noticing the cracks. If I have noticed the cracks where there during Estimate date, my proposal would be different, Grind out and tuckpoint South and North Elevations from top to bottom where necessary. Even if customer would told me during the walk through on that day, I would not hesitate to fix the cracks. Yes, I told customer after almost 2 months I would fix the cracks but I have to send him another Estimate because I have to go there again and set up equipment. After exchanged text massages comparing my company with other bad experiences companies and comparing what I have on my proposal and others, customer threatened me with bad review on Angies list and BBB saying they will help him. Overall, I wish costumer remembered what we spoke during walk through and I am not sure what different material I should have.

This is the third time I have used Hynek's services. He previously rebuilt the top third of our chimney and tucked pointed the lower two-thirds. As always he and his crew arrived punctually to quote on the work and then to do the work once I signed the proposal. It was a relatively small project this time. It took about 5-4 hours but Hynek's crew worked steadily to finish it. When completed they did a thorough clean up. I have been pleased with all of the work that Hynek has undertaken for me and I would not hesitate to use him again if and when the need may arise.

I hired Hynek Construction after having received three bids for the needed masonry work. Hynek Construction's bid was the most reasonable. It was suggested by another bidder for the job that I replace the liner of my chimney with a stainless steel liner as it was required by code. Hynek told me that this was unnecessary work and that it was not a code requirement. I checked with my village and they confirmed that a stainless steel chimney liner was not a code requirement. I appreciated that Hynek did not try to run up the bill. The masonry work was done well and the crew cleaned up after completing the job. I highly recommend Hynek Construction.

We had a lot of work done to our home this summer, but Hynek Construction stands out as a shining star among all the companies we dealt with. Hynek's company is exceptional in their impeccable craftsmanship and outstanding customer service, and therefore worth every penny. Hynek is extremely responsive to all calls and messages, and he communicates very promptly and clearly. His crew arrived on time daily (even early some days!), and they communicated very well through each stage of the project. They were meticulous in all areas of the project--from matching the bricks and mortar to cleaning up all work areas thoroughly each day. They were exceptionally efficient, with each crew member having specific tasks they were clearly responsible for and working as a true team to get the job done in a timely but careful manner. The foreman, Mario, even came out on a Sunday evening to tell us which plants to remove beforehand so they wouldn't get damaged. These are true craftsmen who know what they are doing and have transformed our home from a rundown looking house to a place of beauty. Throughout the project, from bid to conclusion, it was very evident that they care deeply about their work, about the project, and the customer. Although the bid came in a little higher than some companies, we strongly feel it was worth every penny due to their outstanding work, clear communication, and exceptional tidiness. We will definitely hire them again if future projects come up.
Great! Came in, did all the work in a professional manner, were considerate of all the shrubbery, which was a big deal. I would hire them again.

Hynek did a great job renewing the front of my three-story old house. They dismantled the parapet brick on the top floor windows and they rebuild it completely new reusing almost all the original bricks. Some copings were replaced. Second brick layer was also rebuilt and they change the internal lintels too. Also, all the eight windows lintels were changed. All the elevation was cleaned with chemical power wash It was a pretty big job and they work in a very professional manner. They know what they do. To be recommended.

I would recommend Hynek Construction. They presented a competitive bid, explained the process, had me make decisions on some items but provided recommendations. They showed up early, worked hard and cleaned up afterword. They kept me informed of the progress and any issues. A very professional company.

Hynek went way above and beyond. He arrived at 9am on a Saturday morning, after taking our call at 5pm the evening before. He was clearly extremely knowledgeable about masonry, and was able to identify the problem very quickly. Thankfully the work was relatively straightforward, and he was able to have it done on the following Tuesday. The crew he sent was prompt - they arrived exactly when they said they would - and very polite. The finished product was immaculate. Throughout the whole process, from contacting him for an estimate to arranging for the work to be done and making payment, Hynek was totally responsive. The consummate professional. Would highly recommend.
Description of Work: We discovered that the masonry in the parapet wall on our roof was allowing water to leak into the wall in the bedroom below. It happened that we were poised to close on the sale of our house, and needed a review of the issue, an estimate, and to have the work done, all in an extremely tight timeframe.

FANTASTIC service and work!! We are selling our home and as a result of the home inspection, our buyers required we fix a small area that needed tuckpointing prior to closing. I looked on Angie's list and found two local providers that had good reviews. The first provider I called I left a message and they never called back. I called that first provider again a few days later and finally talked to someone. I was told that they would come out in a few days for the estimate, however, the work could not be completed for 4-6 weeks. I explained that it was a very small job and we needed to have the work done ASAP due to our closing date was within 3 weeks - again the guy told me that they could not guarantee the work would be completed before the closing date. I agreed to have them come out for an estimate. In the meantime, I called the second provider I found on Angie's list which was Hynek Construction. I talked to Hynek on the morning of Thursday, July 5th at approximately 11 am and he said that he could come out and provide an estimate. He stopped by that very same day around 4:30 pm to look at the required work; he reviewed with us what needed to be done and pointed out another spot that required tuckpointing - which we had not noticed but were in agreement with. Best of all, he assured us that the work could be completed within 2 weeks. By 10:30 pm that same evening I had a proposal in my email! We reviewed it and sent him the signed proposal on July 7th. There were two guys that came on Tuesday, July 10th to perform the work. They were extremely professional putting tarps down were the work was to be completed. They completed the work in approximately 30 minutes and cleaned everything up perfectly. There are quite a few flowers and bushes in the area where they were working but nothing was trampled - everything left intact. The tuckpointing looks excellent and blends in perfectly! We are so very pleased with the whole experience provided by Hynek Construction!! As a side note the first provider ended up coming on Monday, July 9th and their proposal was 3x the amount of what Hynek Construction quoted us and again the first provide said the work would not be completed for 4-6 weeks because they were too busy!! We really, really are so very pleased of how the entire process went with Hynek Construction - not only super responsive in coming out to give a quote but also in completing the work for us! We are very glad to recommend them to others :)

Hynek Construction just completed a pretty big project for my single family home. Since the cost of the project was going to be $20,000+ I made sure to get 5 different quotes. Hynek spent more time at my location than any of the other providers and more importantly was very patient explaining every point of the quote and the pros and cons of alternate ways of fixing an issue. He was conscious of my budget concerns and made sure to come up with a plan that gave me the best value for money by prioritizing the most critical elements of the masonry, tuck pointing project. While some of the other providers tried to quote unnecessary work that was never the case with Hynek. His team is very professional and especially hard working. Since there was some rain forecasted during the project – the team would work incredibly long days to make up for some of the days they had to miss because of rain. And once during the project the team uncovered an issue that was not readily apparent until they had removed some of the bricks. Hynek immediately brought this issue to my attention and had me visually inspect it and secure my approval to spend a modest amount more money to fix this newly discovered problem. There is a reason why Hynek as of this writing has 226 A reviews out of 232 total reviews. That 97.4% A rating is deserved because he runs the best masonry company in Chicago. Highly recommend him for all your needs.

We are very pleased with the work Hynek Construction did to rebuild our chimney. We obtained estimates from three different companies, and Hynek's estimate was by far the most affordable (it was one-third the cost of the highest estimate we received). It took awhile to get the work scheduled, but once we did, the workers worked quickly and finished the job in two days. Overall, they did high-quality work for a competitive price.

The limestone sills between the lower stone wall base and stucco around the 1st floor got twisted and started lifting as the house started settling. Contacted Hynek and he showed up the next day to take a look. He sent me an invoice the following day and his crew started work the following week when the weather finally started to warm up. The work was done in two days and done with great quality. Hynek is easy to reach by phone / text. I would definitely hire him to work on my house again.
