Hynek promptly replied to my inquiry and delivered an estimate. Our chimney was spalling badly. After 2 other contractor contacts, I decided to go with Hynek. All of the contractors seemed to know their stuff and made the same recommendations to rebuild the chimney. Hynek's price seemed very fair for the same work and I liked the fact that he was a small contractor who worked the trade himself. Within a few weeks, he and his crew came out and did the job. The brickwork and threshold came out looking great. In taking down a TV antenae from the chimney, the wrong cable was accidently cut and Hynek repaired it that same day so that we would not miss the Bears game the next day. Whatever requests I made were cheerfully and competently addressed. I would definitely recommend him or hire him for any masonry work I have in the future.
Description of Work: Hynek replaced a broken limestone sill at the threshold of my front door and rebuilt my brick chimney.

Hynek communicated beautifully, he was confident and qualified, prompt and pleasant, and his work was completely worthwhile!
Description of Work: We've lived in our home for just over a year and as much as i tried to like the exterior iron overhang over our front door, the feature was unattractive, rusty and dated. Although an odd job to explain, I called Hynek to see if he would be available/interested in taking a look at it. I explained that I wanted the overhang removed, the brick repaired, and the iron pillars to be cut level with the cement step. Hynek answered the phone when I called, he expressed an interest in taking a look at the project, and arrived later in the day after calling first! (All of my favorite qualities!) Hynek was most assuring that he could do the job and said he would email a quote later that evening. And just like he said, the quote came in that night with a reasonable price for the job. I communicated with him via email the next day and within 24 hours, the "ugliness" was removed with no problems! The front of the home where the overhang was received new bricks and mortar - and it made such a difference! The area where they worked was cleaned and hosed down...my doormat placed exactly where it was. He advised me not to paint the brick for 3 weeks to let the brick/mortar cure ... I can hardly wait to add the finishing touch of paint!

I chose this company because of their high ratings on Angie's List. Their bid was the lowest of 5 that I received. Hynek and his assistant arrived at the scheduled time. They constructed a scaffolding and used care not to disturb my flower garden. Old chimney bricks were carefully lowered and new ones raised via a pulley system, so as to avoid damage and debris on the ground. The work was completed in one day. The chimney looks great, and cleanup was excellent.
Description of Work: Hynek dismantled my chimney to the roof line and rebuilt it with new brick and flue liners. He poured a new concrete cap and reinstalled the metal cap on top of the flue liner. He installed new metal flashing and sealed it with caulk. He patiently explained to me what needed to be done and why.

They did a superb job. They were very detailed and did several applications of sealant to stop the leak. They removed several levels of brick to apply the fleshing material and additional sealant. They replaced all the brick and redid tuckpointing. They matched the color so you cannot even tell it was done. The finish work and cleanup was done professionaly. We are very satisfied with the outcome.

They made a great effort to do about as well as humanly possible, and I’m very pleased with the effort and results. Also, the price of the job was reasonable, especially considering the complexity and quality of work. I highly recommend them.
Description of Work: Hynek rebuilt my 8 foot wide limestone chimney from the roofline up. Also, poured a new cap with 2 new flues and replaced weather damaged stones (over 10). In addition to the exterior work, my fireplace was partially rebuilt and fully tuck-pointed to accommodate a flat-screen TV. This was a very complex job. Finally, Hynek tuck pointed about 300 problem areas on the exterior.

Hynek was on time for our first meeting, He understood what I wanted done and pointed out additional work I had missed. Such as the chimney. In two days, I received a complete proposal. His price was a bit higher than expected but in line with other tuckpointing I had done some time ago. Hynek is a knowledgeable, energetic young professional who loves his work and running his own business. He went out of his way to ensure we were satisfied. Several small things were broken due to the chimney collapsing unexpectedly. Hynek accepted complete responsibility and made all good. His assistant and he were an efficient team and were in and out in two days with a complete cleanup. From all appearances, the tuckpointinting, chimney repair, and patio repair are all first rate.
Description of Work: Two projects: Dismantle eight courses of chimney, replace flue liners and rebuild chimney with new concrete cap. Tuckpoint around house, repair front arch, rebuild patio.

Just great! See my other comments.
Description of Work: First let me say that Hynek does a very professional job. We got three quotes, including Hynek, and he was a straight shooter about the issues and gave us a very fair price. The brick and mortar in our chimeny was starting to fall apart from the roof line up several feet. The section above this, several more feet of previously replaced brick, was in fine shape. So, we were in the unfortunate situation of having a middle section of brick that needed attention. In addition, the flashing at the roof line had pulled away. Hynek took a through look at it and explained that when the previous owner had rebuilt the top several feet, they should have started from the roofline. While one other company recommended tearing the whole chimeny down to the roofline and starting over and another recommended just covering it all with stucco, Hynek suggested that he would be able to rebuild the middle section without disturbing the top section. He and his crew carefully removed the damaged bricks and replaced them in sections until all damaged area was replaced. This was quite a feat and saved us a fair bit of money! A few weeks later he returned to paint the brick to match the rest of the house, for which I paid him a separate $50. In all, just a great job that took significant skill to complete and a fair price to boot! I will use them in the future and recommend them to friends and neighbors.

Hynek Sedlacek of Hyneck Construction has been written up in Angie?s List reviews before. Thanks to a very favorable rating he received, I called him to do work on my chimney. I am happy to report that he did exactly what he said he would do. He completely rebuilt the chimney, provided a new chimney cap and replaced a liner. He showed up every day at the time he committed to, did excellent work, cleaned up every day, and went out of his way to get bricks that better matched our house?s color. The price he quoted and performed the job for was a very good price. I recommend him highly. Kim Ogden-Avrutik

Hynek came within a day of my initial call to give me his assessment based on my needs and how much I was willing to spend. Soon after, I received a detailed email and I mailed 1/2 of the agreed contract. The work was started the following week ... and everything was done in 1 day. Looks so much better now. I wish the caulk sealing the gap between the stoop and door was a better color-match to the older concrete, but I'm told its the standard color, and should darken over time. The tuckpointing and brick repairs looks great. I also wanted a missing chunk of one stoop - hiding behind a bush - to be repaired, but was told any cement repair in that awkward corner would just fall away again with the extreme temp changes. So I appreciated not having a useless repair done for more money. Hynek was willing to come back out to explain these extra questions I had. Another good Angie's list experience!
Description of Work: I didn't want to spend a lot of money pouring concrete for new front and back porch stoops - recently bought a 50 yr old home. But there were a lot of gaps and breakage that looked terrible when people approached the house. Also had gaps and broken bricks in the house tuckpointing. Hynek Construction's solution was a combination of mortar repairs and durable caulking for the gaps.

We needed work on front steps and walkway of our Chicago style brick bungalow, and other places. After 90 winters the concrete was crumbling and retaining walls bowing. Brick chimney was also coming apart. The team arrived a day early! and worked quickly and effectively. They found matching brick for the front retaining wall and chimney, and rebuilt them completely - other bidders proposed repairing/partial replacement for the same or more. Tuckpointing repair around the house was done thoroughly with excellent color match. Finally, once weather cleared they did all concrete work in a day, despite late arrival of the concrete nothing was rushed, the workers staying until after 9pm to ensure a first class finish on all areas. Cleanup was done each day and at the end of the job. Very happy with the result, our neighbors have complimented us on it too. Estimate and work assessment was very detailed, and structured so there were no surprises or extras down the road, and work could not be compromised by what was found during demolition. Eg fully rebuilding the chimney and walls with new brick. Despite this the estimate was very competitive. The finished job had no surprise extras and is the highest quality. Overall delighted with the appearance, and how smooth and straightforward it was working with Hyneck construction.

Of three providers contacted, Hynek was the fastest to respond. His pre-bid examination was thorough and detailed. He suggested alternative approaches to the project, and was specific about the materials and techniques that would be used. He also made sure to cover questions such as what to do if not all of the old brick was salvageable. Hynek's quotation arrived promptly and was very competitive with other bids. On the day of the project, Hynek and his crew showed up on time and got straight to work. Hynek monitored the work throughout the day and handled some of the trickier parts himself. Throughout, Hynek was unfailingly professional, pleasant, and focused. The project was completed in one day and was very well executed. The rebuilt wing wall blends in perfectly with the rest of the house and is much stronger. I would use Hynek again without hesitation and I recommend him highly.
Description of Work: Rebuilt brick wing wall on front of Chicago bungalow from the ground up, replacing damaged stones at bottom and reusing original brick and capstones to maintain consistent appearance. Patched concrete front steps next to wing wall. Tuckpointed several locations on house and garage. Installed metal cap on top of chimney flue liner. Replaced TV antenna while working on the chimney.

It was just completed There was nothing I disliked. It was a pleasure working with Hynek; that is his first name. Originally he was going to come out and reset those flagstones because the mortar in between them had deteriorated. Then, the more we talked and the more I looked around I told him I did not want to have a problem with cracking mortar because I have had that sidewalk for 10 years and it has been a pain in the neck because the mortar every winter needed some sort of repair. So we talked about these other stones that do not use mortar. He suggested what type of stone and he brought me all kinds of samples out here. We decided which way to go and I told my friends I was going to let the contractor make the last call because he sees all the stone laid out; I am looking at four to five pieces of it. So then when I talked to Hine we went back and forth and we decided a particular color that he helped make the decision on. I am so glad because it looks beautiful. He is A grades all the way through. I will definitely use him again in the future.
Description of Work: I used Hynek Construction to pick up all of the old flagstone and the mortar on the old sidewalk and removed that. They leveled off the bottom layer of concrete and they applied new stone bricks on there.

Last fall, I contacted 4 chimney repair companies recommended by Angie's List and obtained a range of estimates from them. I chose Hynek in part because of their professionalism and in part because they offered me the choice of simply doing a repair or replacing the entire chimney. While their price for the repair was similar to the price another company cited me, their price for the complete replacement of the chimney was significantly lower than others I received. Their recommendation was replacement of the chimney and that's what I had done. I was impressed by the simplicity of working with Hynek. They contacted me when they said they would, the work was done neatly and well, and I didn't feel as though I had to constantly check on their work in order to avoid catastrophes I've had with other home repair companies. Additionally, the crew were very pleasant and Mr. Hynek went out of his way to help me with a roof leak problem I've had that predated his work with the chimney. (The repair was successful, too.) I would highly recommend Hynek Construction to anyone.

Our chimney was in need of repair and I called on four people for estimates. Two recommended removal of the upper half of the chimney and tuckpointing the lower half. Hynek and one other contractor recommended demolition and replacement of the entire chimney. I am glad that I decided to take the Hynek proposal because the lower half of the original chimney had some deterioration that was not obvious prior to demolition. Hynek?s proposal was competitive and his execution of the job was excellent. He was always accessible and promptly addressed any of my questions. He was at the job every day, and even checked the weather protection on the days they didn?t work because of storms. The work started on a Tuesday morning and was halted on Wednesday due to storms that lasted two days. As soon as possible, the workers returned to finish the project. The chimney was nearly complete when a third storm arrived. The work was always well protected, but strong wind was predicted for the last storm so Hynek (the owner) came to the house to personally check on the covering. Not satisfied with the covering, he went up the scaffolding to add an additional tarp around the top of the chimney. There were no leaks. Hynek gave us a price range for the brick and said that we could go to the brick yard to pick out the brick we wanted to use on the chimney. The price range was sufficient and we had a broad selection to pick from. We expected that the plantings around the chimney would be harmed, but the workers were careful to keep the damage to a minimum. They cleaned up and took away all of the debris. I am a retired Architect and tend to be exacting about construction. The chimney looks great. The bricks are aligned and the mortar joints are even. This was a job well done.

Hynek had given me a quote for this repair work when he was working here last year. When I called him in April to do the new work there was no change in the price. Given the passage of time this was certainly most appreciated. Hynek and his assistant arrived early on Friday to start the work, worked half the day on Saturday, and finished the chimney and walkway about noon Monday. Once again all of Hynek's work was impeccable. The mortar joints are smooth, uniform, and tight both on the chimney and the walkway. When the scaffolding was dismantled from around the chimney, a thorough effort was made to clean-up the dust and old mortar bits. Like last year when this year's clean-up was finished, it barely looked as if anything had happened in the area around the chimney. We are very satisfied with Hynek's work, and should we have a need for additional stone work in the future, he will be my first call.
Description of Work: Last year Hynek completely re-built the upper third of our chimney to the gutter line in order to stop persistent leakage. This effort was successful, but because of the age of the house and the state of the mortar joints below new work, I asked Hynek come back this year to grind out and replace the old mortar. When this job was begun, I also asked Hynek to repair some of the mortar joints in the walkway to the front door.

Hynek (his first name) responded promptly to my call and came out that evening to look at my chimney which was by his estimation (and that of two other tuck-pointers) beyond the point of tuck-pointing and needed to be at least partially rebuilt. He gave a bid of $890 to rebuild the top 10 courses, pour a new cap and replace the flue liner if needed - another $100 to grind out cracks and tuckpoint other spots around the house. Because the rest of the chimney was bad (but not as bad as the top 10 layers), he gave a second bid to take the whole thing down to the roofline and then rebuild it for $1390. (Note: my chimney was 25-30 foot tall, with half of that being above the roof at the gutterline) Over several phone conversations and at least one re-examination of the chimney (so he could point to what we were talking about), we settled on a plan of action. However, cold weather was approaching. Hynek assured me that the chimney would not fall apart drastically over the winter, and we could put the work off until spring or even longer (since we were going to be tearing it down anyway, it didn't matter how bad it got, short of bricks actually falling out, and he figured that was at least a year away and maybe two). Further, he told me to just hang on to his estimate and he would honor the quoted price whenever I was ready to get the work done. Spring arrived with a different plan; dismantle the chimney to the roofline and don't rebuild it (since the furnace doesn't use it and a new water heater could be made to vent without it AND we don't have a fireplace). Hynek was skeptical but patiently talked me through the options, sending still more bids for the various components: $350 to take it down to the roofline (for all of the options, I had requested that he leave the bricks for me to use, not haul them away). I had a funky idea about crafting a slanted cap for the remaining portion of the chimney which stuck out from the rest of the wall by 16 inches. That was going to cost $150 and then some of those lower bricks still needed to be replaced. (and he thought the whole thing wouldn't look good) His suggestion, and what we ended up doing, was to take the entire chimney down to the ground (leaving a chimney-width hole in our exterior wall) and then to use the best bricks from the chimney to build the wall back as if the chimney had never been there. Cost $850. The next issue was going to be coodinating the work with the plumber and the roofer (after the former and before the latter). Hynek's schedule was filling up quickly as the weather warmed and he thought it might be 2 weeks before he could do it. The plumber was coming the next day and after biting his lip for just a moment, Hynek agreed to come at the same time (barring inclement weather). He and a crew of two more guys showed up before the plumber, had a scaffold up in no time and worked diligently through a dreary, drizzly day. Thankfully the skies cleared by mid-afternoon for the wall-building portion of their efforts. They matched the mortar nicely, and if you didn't know there had once been a chimney there, you would never know there had been a chimney there. During the work, I'd begun to haul the bricks I was keeping to a remote corner of the yard, and one of his guys immediately took up the task and trundled many loads of bricks to the back of the yard for me. Through everything, Hynek spent as much time as I needed to get clear about the options. He was very open and shared his opinions freely. It seems to me that he prides himself on being less expensive than his competition while doing better work then them, and really, what more could you ask for. I look forward to using Hynek Construction again once we tear out the crumbling front steps and expose that wall that needs tuckpointing.

Our chimney was falling apart and had resulted in some leaks in the past. We had it tuckpointed in autumn of 2008 for about half of what Hynek charged us for the rebuild and it didn't last. We rec'd an estimate last autumn but it was too late to complete the work. Wanted to make sure the conditions were appropriate. As promised, we were the first job in the spring. The repair went very smoothly and was completed in two days. The chimney looks great and the cleanup was thorough. Very pleased with the entire experience.

After receiving estimates from a couple of different companies, we hired Hyneck Construction to perform tuckpointing and to replace missing and damaged bricks on the third floor of our condo building. Hyneck was able to schedule our estimate the day after we called. During the estimate process, he was extremely informative and helpful. He explained the process and showed us exactly what needed to be completed. He answered all of our questions and was extremely courteous. Once we signed the contract, he scheduled our work within two weeks. Once they started, the crew worked every day and completed the project faster than estimated. The crew was extremely professional and kept us informed throughout the project. Hyneck gave us advice about matching new bricks to the old ones, but allowed us to make the decision. The workers cleaned the area every evening and left our building and grounds clean once the project was completed. Once the project was complete, Hyneck called to follow up and make sure that we were satisfied with the work and his crew. We were extremely pleased with both. We will definitely hire them again when the need arises.
Description of Work: We had extensive tuckpointing and multiple courses of bricks replaced on both the side and front of our 80 year old condo building. All of the work was on the third (top) floor and the roof so the company had to use an extensive scaffolding system. Since they had to replace multiple rows of bricks, they needed to match the color of the old bricks.

Estimate was provided quickly - w/in 2-3 days of first contact. We delayed the actual work, so it was a very cold day for them to start the work. All work was completed over the course of a weekend (Fri-Tue), including removal of all forms and cleanup. The stonework was done to our complete satisfaction and far below the estimates of other companies. Since a lot of the cleanup work was done at dusk, there was more debris left than I would l have preferred, but it wasn't anything that a hose and 15 minutes of effort couldn't fix. I have no doubt that he would have come back to do the cleanup if requested, however. Overall, if you are looking for someone who will do a quality job at a very reasonable price, call Hynek.
Description of Work: Replace chimney cap, rebuild several courses of brick at the top and bottom of the chimney and spot tuckpointing.
Hynek responded quickly to a request for an estimate. The price was close to other estimates but Hynek took considerable care to discuss alternatives and possible cost savings. Once the job was awarded the work was accomplished on schedule and the project was quite successful. Workers were neat and left no hint of debris. I am planning to have additional work done when weather permits.
Description of Work: Remove tall brick chimney and rebuild with desired design. Looks great.
