Hynek came out to look at our ailing chimney the same day I called him and had a mailed estimate back to us in a couple of days. I put off doing anything for a few weeks until we had a rainstorm and some water leaking into the house, so I called him on a Saturday, faxed back the contract, and he was able to schedule us for Monday (thank goodness). He and his crew were there at 7am on Monday morning and nearly finished the entire job in one day. At the end of the day, everything was cleaned up as if no one had been there. The person putting in the flashing wasn't able to come until Wednesday and there was a chance of rain Tuesday night, so Hynek came out and put caulking around the chimney as a temporary measure to prevent any leaking until the flashing was put in. The flashing was installed on Wednesday and everything held up beautifully to a heavy rain that came Wednesday night. The rebuilt part of the chimney looks great, the caulking looks so much better than the sloppy mess that was there before, and we have seen no signs of any of the leaking problems we were having before. We are very happy with the work that was done.
Description of Work: Dismantling and rebuilding the top of the chimney (about 3 feet).Installing flashing on the chimney.Tuckpointing.Removing old caulk and re-caulking between the chimney and the house.

After a bad storm in the spring we saw some pieces of brick that had fallen off the chimney. Hynek came out to see it and also noticed that the flashing was loose and that there were a couple types of brick in the chimney indicating part of it had been rebuilt in the past (by prior owner of the house). We decided to go ahead and rebuild the chimney.Hynek then called back to inform us that because we had an unusual size brick, the brickyards didn't have it and would have to special order. It took about 6 weeks to come in but he stayed in touch to keep us informed. We then scheduled a date to perform the work. The crew was very professional. The work was supposed to take about 2 full days but it was raining on the 2nd day so they had to come the following day. It kept raining off and on for the next couple days so the work took longer than expected but Hynek informed us of the status as the week went along. Our chiimney looks great and the crew cleaned up the area (and our driveway where sand had been dumped) so well you would never know they had been here.

Hynek and his crew were great. A chimney cap blew off in a storm and we had a couple pieces of stonework on our front steps that came loose. Getting on the schedule took a little time, but from that point on everything was great. When they arrived they found that more of the stones were loose. They removed all of them and re-cemented them in place. In addition to replacing the chimney cap and tuckpointing, they added a flu liner. While they were on the roof and, at our request, they even removed some ivy vines that were growing into our gutters. When they showed up and pointed out the extra work needed on the steps, I thought, "Here we go. This is where the estimate and the true cost part ways." But they didn't charge extra for the extra labor on the steps, nor the additional work on the chimney. I'd be happy to have them do another job for us.
Description of Work: Replaced a chimney cap that blew off in a storm and did some tuckpointing to the chimney. Repaired loose stones on the front stoop.

Description of Work: Two chimneys had cracked caps. Hynek Construction promptly responded to my request for proposals and was competitive on pricing. Hynek arrived when promised, set up, removed the material, formed and poured new caps (correcting a design deficiency in the existing caps) and cleaned up as a continuous process within the agreed time. I have not evaluated the quality of the work because I am unable to either inspect the chimney caps, or, even if I could do so, I have no way to determine whether the work is actually well done. However, the company and its workmen appeared to be doing a very thorough and workmanlike job so I have no reason to think the work is unsatisfactory in any way. This was a very satisfactory contracting experience.

I called Hynek in Oct. 2011, I was impressed when Hynek (unlike the other masonry people I had called) not only inspected our chimney's but inspected our entire house where he discovered that we needed 3 lentils replaced and general tuckpointing done. He was VERY honest with me and informed me that because of the cold, wet weather we were having that it be best that they start in late spring. I asked him for an estimate (which I got in 2 day's!) he was the lowest out of all the other masonry co's. I had 1 company give me an estimate of $12,000.00 just for the chimeny's!!! We scheduled a tenative late spring start. Hynek called me a week before they were scheduled to come to our house to start the work and informed me of a start date. They arrived every morning at 7a.m. and worked until 5pm!!!! They were kind, and courteous. It took them approximately 5 day's to complete what I thought was a tedious complicated job. They cleaned up after themselves at the end of the day and left our yard cleaner than when they started!!! There was NO sticker shock once the job was completed. He delivered on every item on the estimate with NO surprises! He power washed our house and it now looks better than when they started. We have received numerous compliments from our neighbors and we plan to use Hynek for the next phase of our outside renovations in our backyard with the stone masonry and concrete. Because of this WONDERFUL experience he will be working on our house as long as we live there! VERY IMPRESSED!!!!

I purchased a condo which has the bedroom closet doorway through the cinder block firewall. I wanted to enlarge the doorway by 4 inches and received estimates from 3 different contractors. Hynek's was the lowest but that's not the reason I went with him. He was also the most responsive. Since it wasn't a very large job the other guys didn't seem too motivated. Hynek worked me into his schedule after hours and did a great job. I can't recommend him and his people enough.

We had previously called in roofers, siding specialists, and masons to deal with possible sources of the leaking, but it kept returning. I called Hynek on May 7, and and Hynek Sedlacek came out the same day. His detailed estimate went into the mail the next day. Anxious to complete the work before my previously scheduled landscaping was to begin, I mailed back the signed contract and down payment May 10. Hynek had warned me that their schedule was filled for the following two months, saying he would try to fit us in. He called late Friday May 18 to say they could come on Monday May 21. He and his team of 2 men arrived at 7:00 a.m. Monday and finished the entire job by 5:00 p.m., 2 weeks after my initial call. Hynek himself was on the property several times throughout the day. The electrician he brought out to deal with the outdoor lamp argued us out of replacing the electric box and lamp, insisting that relatively minor repair and a good caulking would suffice, but not before Hynek had interrogated him thoroughly about his reasoning. (I later hired this electrician to do some work inside the house.) At the end of the day, Hynek checked all the work and had the men touch up some cracks and gaps in the new masonry and caulking. They swept up and removed debris, having laid tarps on the patio and grass. Hynek's bill went into the mail the next day; he had eliminated the electrician's $100 fee from the original estimate of $1090. While we have not had enough rain to test the work thoroughly, one good downpour last month suggested that the work was effective. The wall looks excellent, colors perfectly matched.
Description of Work: Our problem was water leaking through the lintel above the kitchen door and dripping into a nearby electric outlet in the kitchen. Hynek proposed to remove 3 courses of brick and 2 stone sills above the back door and window; replace 2 lintels above the door and window; install new lintels with flashing and weep ropes; clean bricks and stone and rebuild the wall; and seal the gap between the stone sill and upper-story siding with Vulkem-116 caulking. The proposal also called for replacing an awkwardly placed outdoor electrical box and light fixture that could have permitted leaking behind the stone sill.

Hynek contacted me the day after I posted on Angie's List. He explained everything as he went along, suggesting a brick chimney as opposed to a cinderblock one (like the one that had failed), along with types of flashing, etc. He and his crew were there a couple of days later, erected the scaffold and finished the work that same day. The area was cleaned up and he left the scaffold for a couple of days so he could check the chimney after the mortar had set up. He not only did a professional job on the chimney and cleanup, but also was kind enough to take pictures of the damage that was done to my roof by the hail storm earlier in the month. Having this information allowed me to take steps to have the roof repaired before it became an emergency. I would certainly recommend Hynek Construction to all who are looking for a craftsman to take care of their home repair needs.

Hynek arrived on schedule. All workmen were very professional and did quality work. The job was well planned out from the way the scafolding was set up to the way they cleaned up at the end. Hynek communicates well, gives common sense opinions and his price was competitive and fair.
Description of Work: Hynek rebuilt 3 chimneys with concrete caps and south and east parapet walls. He installed new 12" wide limestone coping stones on the parapet walls. He put in new clay flue liners as needed, new metal caps and reinstalled roof flashings. He grinded and tuckpointed the house where necessary.

I called Hynek Contruction on 2/21 for an estimate on masonary work on our garage. Hynek promptly called me back to set an appt. He sent me the estimate on 2/24 and we agreed to move forward once the weather became nice. He explained that the work would be completed in three phases. He explained each step in detail and answered all of our questions. (We had moss growing on the outer wall of the garage, which created problems with the inside of the wall.) The job was not easy, as the space between our garage and the neighbors was very tight. Hynek even cleaned the neighbors gutter and the debris between the garages before starting the work! They did a very nice job with matching the color of new mortar to the old, which was in some areas was over 20 years old. We had some previous mortar work done on the garage and had asked about the moss/moisture issue....Hynek was the only one who suggested the the addition of the new sill to prevent the water from sitting in that window well area. (Again, very difficult to install in that area.) They were very careful not to damage any surrounding areas and did a great job of cleaning up after each phase. I will call Hynek again, should we need any other masonary work done in the future. Thanks Hynek!

I obtained an estimate for the work in late 2011. Because it was late in the season (cold and snow were approaching fast) Hynek let me know he would not be able to do the work until spring the next year. Although he did not have time to do the full chimney repair, Hynek came out one day and put sealant on the chimney cracks, so there would be no leaking during the winter months. I called Hynek in late March 2012 to inquire when the work was planned to be done. He said I was on the list and he expected to come out in about two weeks. Hynek, with a crew of 2 workers, came out about two weeks later. They got started early one morning. The chimney tear down and repair, and patching of the hole in the front of the house, were done in 2 days. The scaffolding they set up was in place about 4 days (for the concrete cap to fully set I imagine). Hynek said the basement window had to be special ordered so he would come out in about another week to complete the window part. About one week later, Hynek called to say the window was in and someone would come out to install it later that day. The glass block window was installed in a few hours. The workmen and Hynek were very professional. They set up, completed the work, and cleaned up the worksite, with no disruption to me or my family. The total cost matched the quote he originally gave me. Detailed as follows: $890 to tear down and replace 5 courses of brick on chimney, replace 1 section of flue liner, and pour a new concrete cap. Re-attach existing stainless steel chimney cover. Patch brick wall on front of house to close up hole from old mailbox slot. $270 to replace and seal flashing where roof meets chimney. $250 to remove and replace basement glass block window, with a $40 special order charge for clear glass block. I rated the price A. This quote was a little lower than two other quotes that I had obtained. I rated quality B. I believe the quality of the work is VERY GOOD. I did not rate quality all the way to an A yet because of small inconsistency in the edging of the concrete cap. Hynek has agreed to look closely at the issue and will come out in the next few weeks to fix the inconsistencies. (I will upload photos in the near future). I rated responsiveness an A. Hynek always called back timely. I rated punctuality an A. Hynek and his workers were always on time. For the estimate and the work. I rated professionalism a A. Hynek and his crew were professional, strive to do high quality work, are concerned with the quality of their work product and the satisfaction of the customer.
Description of Work: Tear down and replace five (5) courses of brick on chimney, replace 1 section of flue liner, and pour a new concrete cap. Re-attach existing stainless steel chimney cover. Patch brick wall on front of house to close up 3"x6" hole from old mailbox slot. Replace and seal flashing where roofing meets the chimney. Remove and replace basement glass block window (about 28" x 36").

As before, Hynek arrived at the scheduled time. They started putting up scaffolding and began working. It took them one day to do the work. They cleaned the area after they were done.
Description of Work: We used Hynek Construction last year and were very pleased with their work that we hired them again this year. Our building is a condominium of 9 units and the building needed some tuck pointing on the bricks on top of the buildings exterior. In addition, the chimney needed some repair. The bricks needed to be rebuilt and/or replaced on the west side of the building because the bricks were badly worn from years of weather elements.

On initial contact I was told to expect an inspection in 1 to 3 days. The same day I received a call from Hynek and he came out in the rain, set up a ladder and did the inspection. He informed me that only the upper half of the chimney was in bad shape, but I opted for a complete rebuild as it has never been done in the 30 plus years I've lived here. He informed me up front that it was his busy time and it might take a little while to do the job and, the fact that he didn't want to be responsible for reinstalling the satelite dish. I had no concerns about either of those items and asked him to send me his estimate. I received an itemized estimate in about two days and called to tell him I wished to have the work done. About a week later he called and asked if he could do the job starting the next day. I agreed and the crew showed up promptly at 7:00am as promised. They went right to work and stayed all day and completed the rebuild. The entire job was finished in two days. Hynek did a great job of matching the old brick on my house and the chimney looks great! They were prompt, professional, courteous, friendly and protected all the areas where they had to work. Clean up was great and except for the nice looking job you would never know they were here. Would I use them again? Yes. Would I recommend them? I already have to one of the neighbors who needs masonry work done.

Overall, we were very impressed with the work Hynek and his crew performed. He called and asked if he could begin work and arrived a few hours later. Within an afternoon, he had demo-ed the old chimney and prepared to return in the morning. Right away, he found that the previous chimney had been built on a sham of a foundation and offered a repair that would not cost us thousands more dollars. We agreed on the alternative. Once he began to work on the foundation, he realized that it was completely hollow under the firebox and had to pour a new, proper foundation. He did this at no additional cost beyond what we had agreed to the previous day. The work was completed in a few days as promised, the area was cleaned of all debris and brick dust. Hynek did a great job! We have already referred him to several of our neighbors!
Description of Work: We own a 38 year old wood frame split level home. A few years ago, I realized that the chimney appeared to be pulling away from the house. We had it tuckpointed and re-caulked hoping that it was simply a maintenance issue. A few months later, a gap appeared and we realized that the chimney was in need of a serious repair. We had several companies come to evaluate the problem and most told us that the chimney had not been properly built and would need to be replaced. Initially we received three quotes ranging from 6500-10,000. We waited a few years and tried again after the housing market crashed. I consulted Angie's list and found Hynek Construction as well as two other companies. All three provided quotes and Hynek's came in at the lowest. After speaking with several contractors I was impressed with Hynek's knowledge as well as the many great reviews he had received on Angie's List. His clients had found him to be honest and reliable. We signed a contract with him in the fall to begin work in the spring.

The 50 year old chimney on our duplex building had been previously tuckpointed. It had a cracked cap, with water leaking in, mortar popping out, joints falling apart, mortar disintegrating into sand, and moss growing on it. Hynek came by to examine the chimney and sent an estimate even though we were unable to meet with him at the time. He followed up by answering questions from me and the co-owner of the building by email, phone, and arranging to meet both of us in person. He did get a bit impatient with us, as we had a lot of questions, but he also answered everything in sufficient detail to convince us that a rebuild of the chimney was the best option for the repair, and that he was the right man for the job. He give us a sense of confidence that we did not get from the several other companies that we got estimates from, and a better price. Once we agreed to proceed with the job, he scheduled it, after which we had the pleasant surprise of having the job started 2 weeks early. Hynek found new replacement brick that is an excellent match for the existing brick in our 50 year old building. He and his crew did the entire job in one day and came back a couple days later to remove the form from the cap after it had properly set. Upon final inspection I did have to ask for some touchup on the flashing, but overall the work was immaculate and very well done. Except for the beautiful new chimney, they left the property as they found it - no damage, and no mess left behind. The chimney still looks great after surviving it's first winter, both on close inspection, and from the street. We have had no leakage or other problems. We are very happy with Hynek Construction, and the work they did for us. We enthusiastically recommend them.

Very satisfied with the entire experience. He and I could not find a time to meet at my home, so he came out on his own and inspected the chimney I asked him to look at. Hynek not only inpsected the chimney, but also walked around my home and saw that three concrete sills under my bay windows and at the patio door needed to be repaired / reset. His estimate arrived promptly and included options for the other repairs. I gave him the job hoping he could fit me in to his busy schedule and complete the work before winter. Even though he was busy with other jobs, he actually came out AT NIGHT wearing a helmet with a light to start the work. He finished the job as quoted in two days and the sills look great. I'm sure the chimney is also repaired properly, but I'm not going up there to look. Very impressed and would definitely recommend him.

Hynek came out within an hour from when I called to look at the chimneys and provided an estimate. They were able to do the work earlier than was originally indicated which was very much appreciated. Hynek & his crew were professional and performed as indicated. I highly recommend them and would use them again if the needed arises.
Description of Work: We needed to have work done on our 2 chimneys - they needed to grind out all joints from top of roof line and tuckpoint 100% also install form & pour 4" thin concrete cap with overhang.

They let us know the approximate date they would be able to start the job and completed work in a very timely manner which took several visits. They also very graciously did some extra grout work on a stone window ledge at no charge. The crew, which included the owner, were very professional and we are very pleased with the finished product and feel the price was within our budget. We would highly recommend this company.
Description of Work: Hynek rebuilt our Chimney which had deteriorated and was in need of repair. We did contact several other vendors who also had good reviews. We chose Hynek in part due to the noted reviews from other users, their quick and confident response as well as the explanation from the owner of the service they would provide. We have a very steep and high pitched roof and they completely tore down the old Chimney and rebuilt a new one with very nicely finished caps.
