Hynek Construction

My initial phone call was returned in a timely manner. When the owner came to give an estimate I was told up front that it could be a month before the work would be done. To my surprise Hynek called a couple of days later and arranged to come the following day, since my job would only take 1 day to complete. His workers arrived later that afternoon with the scaffolding, they were efficient and respectful of my yard and belongings. They were on time and completed the job, the chimney took most of the day, the crew that did the tuckpointing were done in a couple of hours and left for another job. I am very pleased with the work and this company.

We renovated our house and needed a good amount of masonry work done. We were replacing 1 wall of brick with natural stone, repairing around a new window & door as well as tuck pointing several cracks in the mortar throughout the house. I asked Hynek for an estimate after getting 2 estimates that varied greatly in price (one was over $16k). He came out quickly and his bid was in the same range as the other bid and he was able to start the work the following week (which fit into our tight time frame). When it came to selecting the natural stone, he was familiar with the 2 stones we had selected to mix and offered a recommendation to not mix the stone and just use the one for a variety of reasons. The resulting stone is a great match for the house and we are extremely happy with how it looks. His crew was out and did a great job and kept the yard clean each day (cleaner than some of the "interior" contractors did). They worked quickly and did a great job.

From the beginning of our search for a company to do this work on our home, we felt that Hynek was the most responsive...he actually answers his phone himself. He came and gave us a simple but thorough quote that was very fair. In my discussions with him about the work, I could tell he was a real tradesman and really understood his craft....I knew there wouldn't be any surprises or up-sells once the work started. We were having our roof done as well and I needed the chimney to be done first. Hynek said that once the roof was scheduled to call him and he would get his work done just prior to the roof work. To our surprise our roofer was able to start in two weeks. Hynek honored his promise to get our chimney and tuck pointing work done despite our very short timeline. The work was completed in two days by two very skilled masons...not just laborers. We were 100% satisfied with the work and would highly recommend Hynek Construction to others.

I am very happy with Hynek, the owner. He responded promptly to my request for an estimate for a very small tuckpointing job (not more than two hours work). He even waited for me for 20 minutes when I was detained on an errand. The work was done on time and on budget, as promised. Also, when I realized that there was another area that needed to be re-tuckpointed that I had neglected to point out the first time, he sent his guy back within a matter of a couple of days to finish the job, without additional charge. I would not hesitate to use Hynek again.

Although there were some minor communication issues, everything went as planned and Hynek's crew did an excellent job. They were at our house for approximately 7 days and were very courteous and professional. They took proper precautions when working with mortar in the cold weather, and they did a very nice job on both the inside and outside of the home. They cleaned everything up very well once the job was completed, also. I would definitely recommend Hynek Construction, and their pricing was competitive.

Workers showed up on time early in the morning and got to work right away. They set up scaffold on both chimneys and started to dismantle them. Very efficient operation, and they did not make a big mess. They rebuilt both chimney's after that, and pored both caps the same day. The workers came back after the cap's had set and removed the forms,calked the flashing, installed the rain cap, and thoroughly cleaned up around the house. All in all a great job and we are very satisfied with the whole job.

Hynek Construction provided a very fair estimate, so our condominium association contracted with his company to provide masonry work on our building. The on-site team was prompt, fast, and very thorough?-even going above and beyond to repair, without charge, a few areas that were not in the original quote because they felt it was necessary. They also did an excellent job matching color on the tuckpointing and the color on the limestone?-both look great. Further, the Hynek crew was respectful of our property and cleaned up every day prior to departing. Early on, Hynek impressed us with his integrity, so we knew upfront he was a businessman of high standards and someone we could probably trust. When we asked him to submit a quote for an alternative type of work, which involved patching bricks rather than a full replacement, he refused; telling us he believed that type of work wouldn't last long and he stated, "I wouldn't put my name on it." Overall, we were very satisfied with the masonry work done on our building and would highly recommend Hynek Construction to anyone who needs masonry work done.

They were prompt. They were professional and they got the job done very quickly. They fixed up well. The chimney was leaking water and we are very happy that it is now fixed.

It took a little longer than we thought it would but we understood why, but it still ended up going very well.

The scope of work for the services I needed performed was extensive and expensive. Therefore, I obtained estimates from several providers using Angies list as well as personal referrals. Using Angies list, I contacted Hynek Construction for an estimate. During my initial call, I was informed that the provider was insured, bonded and licensed in the City of Chicago, where the work was to be performed. I was interested in obtaining an estimate from Hynek Construction due to its excellent reviews on Angies List along with them being an insured, bonded and licensed provider. The provider came to project site to provide an estimate. Since I was not able to meet the provider during the estimate, they called me at the site to review the scope of work. Within 24 hours, the provider provided a written scope of work and an estimate. I was very satisfied with the scope of work to be performed for the cost of service compared to all other estimates I received. Before choosing the provider, I researched the company and found no negative information from Angies list, Better Business Bureau, State of Illinois Attorney General and etc. Therefore, I selected Hynek Construction to be the provider to perform the service. Before starting the services, the provider held a meeting with me at the project site to review the scope of work and the project timeline. While the services were being performed, the provider was keeping constant contact with me to inform me about their progress. In addition, when I visited the project site, the provider showed me the services they've completed along with reviewing remaining services in the scope of work. Additionally, while visiting the project site, I found the provider completing services above and beyond the scope of work along with using better then normal material to complete the services. This indicated to me that the provider takes pride in their workmanship and cares to deliver quality services to its customers. The provider finished the scope of work for exactly their estimate along with providing more services and using better quality material. I am very satisfied with selecting Hynek Construction to perform services and I would recommend them to my family, friends and fellow Angies List members. I am so satisfied with Hynek Construction that I have asked them to share my contact and project site information to potential customers as additional references for the quality work performed by them.

Excellent as first time last yr

Hynek and his crew did a great job on our two chimneys, one stone and one brick. The job was not for beginners, especially the work to rebuild/repair our stone chimney. Hynek matched the stone and the brick perfectly. He did the job when he said he would. The price was reasonable for the work performed and the level of skill and equipment required. His guys did good work. I'm a satisfied customer!

Hynek and his crew showed up on time and were very efficient and professional. They were extremely conscientious and I really appreciated how courteous his crew was. They worked very hard and kept the work area extremely neat and tidy. I am extrememly pleased and impressed with the quality of work that was done. My fireplace was an eyesore and now it is the focal point of my home on the inside and out! If you are thinking about redoing your fireplace or need any other masonary work done you MUST hire Hynek! I have dealt with a large number of contractors over the years and he far exceeds any other company I have hired. Not only is his work outstanding but he charges a very fair price. Thanks again Hynek for such a great job!

The work took about two hours, as estimated, and we are now rid of the wood that was used by the builder to correct a spacing issue. We now have a larger limestone sill that completely fills the gap between our foundation and recreation room window. The finished project looks great and the estimated cost was spot on! We are very happy and would not hesitate to recommend the services of this company to any of our family or friends.

After being blown off by 2 other contractors who were not on Angie's list (one I had used previously and another that had been recommended) I am happy to have found Hynek. He contacted me immediately after my email and set up an appointment to come out in 2 days for an estimate. He was on time, which was greatly appreciated. From all the reviews I had been reading I saw that all the contractors were extremely busy during this time of year, which Hynek confirmed. I had anticipated that my small project would take weeks before he could get to it so was pleasantly surprised when Hynek was ready to install it 2 weeks later. His men were courteous, efficient and cleaned the entire area when finished. I would definitely use him again.

Everything went great. Hynek is very punctual and professional. He went out of his way to make sure this job was done. Everything was completed sooner than I expected. His price was fair and reasonable. His guys were very nice and did a beautiful job. I would definitely use this company again and recommend to others.

Our condo association contacted Hynek to help remedy a building water leak affecting the exterior wall / windows. Hynek showed up on time and wasted no time inspecting the building exterior in the area thought to be causing the problem. Within 10 minutes Hynek had identified a 1/8" diameter hole in the flashing and stated that this was definitely our problem. Using a water hose we successfully recreated the leak, proving that he was correct! Due to Hynek's quick identification of our problem, we were then able to refocus our search for a contractor specializing inroof/exterior repairs. Because Hynek specializes in masonry and chimney repairs he chose not to bid for our job. But we will be forever grateful for his expertise and quick problem-solving ability. Hynek Construction should always be considered when selecting a contractor. Hynek is an experienced professional who is reliable, reasonable, prompt and fair.

Hynek was great. He came to our house immediately. He gave us a great price. He noticed that we had cracks in our basement windows that required the windows to be replaced along with the tuckpointed.I had not noticed that and am grateful he did. He replaced the windows and did the tuckpointing. His work was very professional. He cleaned up afterwards. I would recommend him highly.

Two people came besides the owner and it took about 2 and a half days. Left the area not bad, but not so good, but came back and cleaned it. They are trustworthy, punctual, and I would recommend them.

Work was performed ahead of schedule, done neatly on a timely basis. The job contracted was completed meeting proposal terms and met customer expectation.. Once the job began we decided to improve on the chimney cap instead of reinstalling the old ones proposed and this required a special order, some additional cost and follow up installation once the chimney was completed. Only suggestion I would make to others doing new chimney is to inquire about new chimney cap installation at the time the new chimney proposal is being estimated so there isn't any question this may be the best solution. In our case we were presented a verbal proposal for the chimney cap, it was ordered and installed on a timely basis.. This is our third experience working with Hynek Construction and would continue to highly recommend working with him.. He is a good person/contractor. His service is dependable, work high quality and his terms are fair. As contractor, he is involved with each of his jobs and sets the bar for his jobs and his workmen very high. .

After sending an e-mail requesting an estimate we did not hear anything for a few days. All of a sudden we received a phone call on a Saturday afternoon stating the contractor was ten minutes away from our house and would be over soon. We were not home and cut short our plans to hurry back. In the mean time we told him he was more than welcome to visually inspect the multiple issues we e-mailed about. Upon meeting the contractor at our house he made a wise crack about my wife's driving (I had been communicating with the contractor via text while I was a passenger in our car). We then stood out front of the house and the contractor said, "Yes, your columns are leaning. What do you want to do?". Well, I don't know ... that's why I called you. He laid out there options and eventually said he probably wouldn't do anything. It was a frustrating five minute conversation where we were made to feel quite stupid. He then asked about some back stairs that were in need of repair that had been mentioned in my e-mail. At this point I didn't really want to have this meeting go any further but I indulged. Get to the back stairs and he starts laughing, asks if we had an inspection before purchasing the house. He said the stairs were not built to code and are in bad shape. Again, this is why we called you. He said someone else should do the work, a concrete contractor but someone probably wouldn't take the job because it's too small. Here's where it got strange: After thanking him for his time he hands me his card and I tell him I'll reach out to him should we have any masonry needs in the future. "Don't call me" was his reply. Not sure what else to say.

Hynek showed up exactly on time and told me that I didn't need any work done. I complained that the front of my house looked ugly so basically he said that he would tuck point the front for me. I practically had to twist his arm. I also asked him to replace my front steps because they were ugly and he told me it would be a waste of money. So, if you want someone who will be honest, show up when he says he will, do a perfect job that passes inspection from someone like me who is a perfectionist. Hynek is your man! They did a great job, worked quickly and cleaned up when they were done. I highly recommend them!

The work was to be done in August, 2014. Hynek contacted me in June and advised that he would be able to come earlier. His crew showed up, got right to work and finished the job within the time frame specified. Everything was cleaned up after the job and I didn't have to do anything. I'm very happy with the professionalism, quality of work and timeliness in which the job was completed. I definitely recommend Hynek Construction and wouldn't hesitate to hire them again.

When we bought our fixer-upper we noticed that the chimney was in really bad shape. Hynek's company rebuilt the chimney down to the roofline. They matched the color of the bricks and the style of the house quite well. They even took care not to crush the flowers underneath the scaffolding (any more than necessary). We need to do a lot more tuck pointing and we have no reservations about calling Hynek Construction in the future.
