The only difficulty was trying to get the job scheduled. We felt that, being a small job, we were being fit in between other jobs. The owner kept saying, "he'll let us know when he's ready for us", and we waited a few weeks. Then he'd call and say he was starting the next day. The first time we said, "no", because we were going out of town. We would have preferred knowing a few days ahead of the start date so we could be prepared. Fortunately we're retired and could accommodate such a short notice. It would be different if we were still working; it would be difficult to take time off of work with only a day's notice. However, once they actually started, they were prompt, professional and did a really nice job. I was impressed how quickly the job was completed. Their work is very good and I would recommend them for anyone who is flexible with their time and can be at home with just a day's notice.

We could not be happier with the service we received from Hynek Construction. Hynek himself came to meet with me and immediately understood the scope of the project. Once the work started, his crew was professional and did top-notch work. Our house looks great, even better than we expected. Our neighbor even came by to ask who did the tuckpointing because he needed some work done on his house!

In March I received 4 proposals for tuckpointing. Hynek was the most helpful in advising about needed work. He answered questions and even waited for me to show another contractor around the building. Hynek's proposal was for the work we discussed and covered the problem area's. I was called in mid June and asked if they could begin work the next day which it did. They protected the ground as best they could but scaffolding did have to be erected with legs in the Hostas. Work was done professionally and efficiently. Hynek's advice about bad lintels was spot on as the lintels were badly rusted but had not yet caused much damage. They did great work on the parapet without disturbing the 4 year old PVC roof . Where tuckpointing was needed old mortar was removed and pointed. All looks good. There were a couple of screens damaged from falling mortar and two areas missed that should have been tuckpointed. I notified Hynek and within a week the screens were fixed and the areas were taken care of. Hynek is the owner and uses no subs, he spends time on the jobsite daily. It is nice to deal with a company that you don't have layers of people and sub-contractors to plow thru when there is a problem. I would use Hynek Construction again.

Hynek came promptly to look at the work and sent a quote within a couple of days. After a second visit to let up point out areas of concern we reached an agreement on the price. His crew showed up when he said they would and the repairs look better than the original. He and his crew took their time and got it right. If I have other work in his area of expertise I will not hesitate to call him.

We were delighted with all aspects of the work Hynek Construction did on our home last month. We are preparing our home to sell, and in the process of getting a new roof put on, we found that we needed to repair both the operating chimney of our house and a small decorative chimney on the garage; we also needed to have some tuck-pointing repairs done all around the house. We did not know someone who could do this and relied totally on the positive reviews on Angie’s list. They were right! Hynek came promptly after we called and did an evaluation and estimate. He strongly suggested a re-build of the decorative garage chimney with new bricks, which we were disinclined to do (not wanting to spend extra money to move). But when the bid came in, rebuilding that small chimney was really reasonable. It ended up being well worth the cost, given how much better it looks (and no fear of tumbling bricks!). The large chimney repair also looks great, and the touch-up tuck-pointing was so skillfully done it does not stand out from the existing mortar. Overall, we were happy with Hynek’s price – very much in the range of other bids we got. Hynek’s crew came and completed the job in one day. They took extra care to build a narrow scaffold to repair the chimney on our second-story roof because it faces very closely our neighbor’s main door; this allowed our neighbors full access. But what was best was that the crew came on time, set up, and did the work really well in one day. They cleaned up thoroughly, leaving only the wood mold for the concrete chimney caps which had to stay on until the concrete set. Two workers came back when promised to remove them. No one wants to have to do unexpected chimney repairs – but Hynek Construction got us through them hassle free. Hynek Construction gets an Angie’s List “A” from us – and we’d give an A+ grade, if we could!

Due to the faulty design of the chimney built by the former homeowner, moisture in the bricks was causing major problems. Bricks were flaking and efflorescence was very evident. I called Hynek and left a message on his voicemail which stated that he was not available but would call back on Monday. On Monday, he did just that called me in the morning. He was very responsive. He came out that day to give me an estimate, which was very competitive with other numerous bids I received. I decided to go with Hynek due to the overwhelmingly positive responses I saw on Angie's List and based on his knowledge of the work which needed to be done. Since the weather was still cold and rainy, I knew it was going to be a while until Hynek was able to start. Approximately, a week after signing the contract, Hynek came out with sample bricks and explained to me the process of matching the bricks, and how the project will unfold but we still had to wait until the weather improved. About a month went by and I had not heard from Hynek so I called and he reassured me that he had not forgotten and was waiting for better weather. This was early Spring and it was raining practically every other day. About 2 weeks later, I received a call and they were ready to start during a forecasted window of decent weather. The workers arrived on time and immediately started working. I spoke to the crew foreman and he explained to me how they were going to do their work and explained the materials they were going to use. The crew was very professional and polite. I was told that this work may take 3 days to complete. They dismantled the chimney the first day and as luck would have it, rain was coming the night, They covered the exposed areas to insure the house was protected. The next day, the bricks arrived and they moved very quickly and completed all of the masonry work to include pouring the concrete chimney cap. They covered the cap to make sure that the house was protected should it start raining again. The third day, the foreman and one of his workers came and in about an hour, removed the concrete form, sealed all flashing, and completed the finish work. The chimney looks great and they cleaned the job site very well. I would highly recommend Hynek Construction for masonry work. They were professional, efficient, and very responsive to any questions or concerns I may have had.

The village inspector left the message saying that our house needs some repairs otherwise they were going to fine us and one of them was tuck pointing our chimney and the garage, along with some other small things. So I checked the Angie's list and liked the reviews of Hynek Construction, called them and only a couple of days later Mr. Hynek Sedlacek himself showed up to inspect the situation. He told me that tuck pointing alone wouldn't do it, it had to be reconstructed, which didn't surprise me since I was told that a few times by different people in the past 10 years or so. He also found that there were a few really badly worn out areas that had to be repaired and quoted $1,590 for all that work. Then I showed him the garage repair area. He looked at it and told me that he would do that work for free. OK. Within that day the contract was emailed to me, I signed it, scanned it and sent it back and that's that. A few days later 4 work crews came at the promised time and started working. Put together scaffolding. There was no chatting nor messing around. They just worked like real pros and chimney reconstruction, repair, tuck pointing and garage tuck pointing were done in 2 work days. I don't know anything about tuck pointing but it looks sturdy, clean and professional. After seeing how the work was done, $1,590 seems reasonable and garage bonus was much appreciated. I'd recommend them to any of my friends or family.
Description of Work: Reconstructed the top part of the chimney, tuck-pointed deep-gauged area of the chimney. Also they tuck pointed the worn out area of our garage for free, which we much appreciated.

Beautifully. Had used Hynek for chimney rebuild last year. Once again he arrived the next day for an estimate which was reasonable in price Within about 10 days of confirming they removed the crumbling concrete, built forms and poured and finished concrete within one day. Next morning removed forms and carefully replaced sod around all walks. Couple of days later they finished the downspout.

Hynek and his crew were amazing! First of all, Hynek, himself answers the phone. On the phone, I was able to describe the problem and text him a photo of my issue. That morning, he went to the brickyard to find an extremely close match, for our difficult to match brick (home built in 80's). Not only was he able to find the match, he worked with my uber-busy schedule to personally drive out that same afternoon to show me the bricks and confirm that I approved of the match. His crew was out later that day and even fixed an area I had said to not worry about. All this was done expeditiously, very meticulously, and best of all, reasonably. $400 for 3 separate areas of my home that needed tuck pointing and/or bricks cut out and then replaced. I will use Hynek again for sure and he is fair on pricing, despite living in Lake Forest. Sometimes, I feel that some providers will simply "throw out numbers" that are so unreasonably high, just because of our zip code. Not with Hynek. I would recommend him to my friends and I look forward to using him again.
Description of Work: Hyena's crew fixed a crack in the front of our house through 4 bricks and mortar (about 3 feet in length). Also, tuck pointed a hairline crack in mortar near window.

First, I would like to mention that the reason this review is posted some months after the work was done was due to my illness. I am now doing well and wanted to be sure to review Hynek's work, as he is most deserving of a perfectly positive review. The work was done to my complete satisfaction. All of the "excellent" remarks above are perfectly on-point with Hynek's professionalism beginning with my initial contact for a quote to the completion of the work. I recommend Hynek Contruction without reservation. I'd also like to add that Hynek is honest, thorough, hardworking, and reliable. I have nothing but praise.
Description of Work: Removed side sidewalk (41' x 2-1/2'), front section (5' x 5'), garage sidewalk (9' x 2-1/2') and soil for back patio (15' x 15'). Also replaced 3 basement window wells, installed form and poured new 4" thick concrete work using minimum 4000 psi concrete mix on 4" compacted stone base reinforced with wire mesh (patio) with one step at front. Also replaced limestone stone under front main door (41" x 4" x 10"). Installed unilock blocks on front landing and first step with glue. Also poured extra concrete on back (back door), section on back sidewalk and square on front side sidewalk. Also some extra concrete work.

We received quotes from four different companies - all on Angie's list. All the other quotes were significantly more expensive (one quoted $12,000!!!) and claimed that the majority of the cost was due to se-up, since we only had some work to have done. One company did recommended a complete grind-out and replacement of all mortar and gave us a quote for some spot repair and the complete job. I called back to Hynek and asked why he didn't recommend a complete grind-out and if they would give us a quote to re-do the entire house. Hynek gave us a very honest and professional opinion and said that they would be happy to do that for us if that is what we really wanted (and told us of course they would make more money doing so), but professionally said he felt that is was completely unnecessary, would be much harder on our 80+-year-old brick than to just do the spot work, and ultimately could cause more problems due to the age of our brick. We felt very comfortable with and appreciated his honest opinion. The workers were neat and clean and we are happy with their work. We will use Hynek again in the future.

Hynek did a great job. They brought a crew of six workers and finished the job in one day. I stayed and watched them do their work the whole day and answered any questions from them. They responded to my requests to make a few minor modifications to the original plans. Hynek showed up at the jobsite when they said they would, worked hard all day, took 30 minutes for lunch and finished the job at 4:30 pm. They cleaned up the site of any refuse, bricks, mortar that they created. A very professional job. I would use them again.
Description of Work: Extensive remodeling of a brownstone in Wrigleyville, Chicago. Hynek was hired to modify six masonry openings to accommodate new windows. Included in that was to convert a door opening to a large window and convert a window to a door opening. They also reused the existing limestone window sills,

Hynek was great to work with from the beginning of my project. He came out promptly for an estimate & mailed it to me in a timely manner. His estimate was within my anticipated budget & was priced in the middle range of the other estimates. I never had major work done on my house where I had to obtain permits so I was very apprehensive on the whole procedure. Hynek gave me some sound advice and good recommendations. I had to deal with several issues, including obtaining the permit and coordinating the window company. When I gave him a projected time frame for the work, it kept changing for other reasons, yet he was very flexible and worked with my schedule. When I finally got a set date for the project, he helped me choose the brick and made good suggestions. When the actual construction began, his crew were on time everyday and worked a full day. The whole construction lasted one week. While my window wasn't installed until the following week, they made sure the opening was secure from inclement weather. I have gotten nothing but compliments from friends & neighbors who have seen the change from what my house formerly looked like and to what it looks like now. Hynek's company has done excellent work and has definitely improved the curb appeal of my house. I would highly recommend him to anyone looking for mason work & definitely use his company again.

Hynek gave us a fair estimate of the work, including the chimney, whose sorry state he found unacceptable and unsafe. We agreed on a date and a price and he stuck to both exactly. My main concerns with having masonry work done were these: it's expensive and we won't be able to tell the difference. Yes, it was expensive in terms of dollar-outlay, but the house looks a thousand times better. And I totally trust the work that they did. There was minor damage to the interior plaster, but Hynek helped us to fix that. We were very pleased with this work.
Description of Work: We had a rusting lintel in the front of the house, which caused the lintel to bow upward, which caused step-cracking in the bricks of our bungalow, which, if left un-treated can cause real problems. We also had a chimney that was ugly and un-safe.
