+ -1 moreCarl came out, diagnosed the problem as a broken part that was likely under warranty, called it into Anderson and had them ship the part asap. He did not charge me after the first visit but came back the day after the part arrived and fixed the lock. Carl was also able to show me how to easily re-level the door that was catching slightly at the bottom. The door and lock are now working as well as they did the day of installation.
Description of Work: I had a broken lock on an Anderson patio door.

+ 0 moreAfter discovering that our deadbolt lock was broken late at night, we called A-Alert Lock Service early the next morning. Carl came to our house in the afternoon and replaced the lock with one that was identical in size but of better quality. He noticed that the strike plate was not aligned properly and was attached with only one screw (which probably explains why we always had trouble locking the door). He corrected this problem and now it is very easy to lock the door. Hooray! Carl was friendly and also offered advice on operating and maintaining our new lock. It was a pleasure to deal with such a capable professional. We will certainly call Carl again when we need the service of a locksmith.

Description of Work: Carl re-keyed two locks on two doors for which I had no key. Keyed them to match the deadbolt locks on the same doors - involved having to remove locks for re-keying. Carl is a good guy, pleasent, knowledgeable, reliable. Need some lock work, call him.

+ -1 moreIn less than an hour I was in the garage and had a lock which worked with my house key. Very pleased.
Description of Work: Due to the power outage caused by the recent storm on the north side of Chicagoland on the night of June 21,2011 I was unable to get into the garage. Of course I could not find the keys to the side door of the garage. Called A-Alert Lock & Alarm because they are based nearby and saw them referenced by the Morton Grove community guide. Carl came out within 30 minutes as promised. He was able to get into the door with 15 minutes. Carl was pleasant and professional. His van was fully loaded with tools, keys and he was ready to work. The service call was $70 with another $35 to make a key to get entry to the garage. I asked to match the lock with my house key so I only would need one key (harder to misplace that way). That was another $30 and maybe 10 minutes. My door was hard to closed with the loack before but no longer cause Carl took tool to doorjam and made the opening larger. If you live near Morton Grove you should give Carl a try.
