His original quote to me on paper was $1800. The middle quote of the 3 I got. The day he was supposed to start, he didn't. He called and said the store was "out of the materials" he needed. He started a day late. He told me it would take about 3 days and I would never be without power. It took 4 days of work, and then me calling him back to fix things that weren't right to get MOST of the job done. He also left us without power overnight for two nights, in the middle of February! With children in the house! And, no heat because my whole house is electric. We have no gas line and he knew that. THEN, he called in two men to help him, so therefore tried to charge me an additional $1000 to cover their pay. I gave him an additional $300 because that was all I could afford. He said he would bill me the rest- even though he had given me a written estimate. He gave me a guilt trip about his family situation and that he really needed the money. I told him I would be showing his estimate to my lawyer to see if he could do that. I never heard from him again. I have two rooms that I still have trouble with the power in. He also never labeled anything in the breaker box, so we never know what breaker sets what power on and off.
Description of Work: Transforming my fuse box into 200 amp circuit breaker service.

Well, he did a fair job. We now have 100 amp service in the outbuilding. Though his price was a bit on the high side, we decided to go with him anyway because he was a certified and licensed electrician who we assumed knew all of Commonwealth Edison's requirements and codes. As it turned out, when Edison came by to inspect the job, they discovered that a small metal strap that held up a piece of the pole was omitted. When we called him back and told him of Edison's requirement, he did come back to install it, but charged us an additional $125.00 without mentioning beforehand that there would be an additional charge. We contracted with him in good faith because we believed that being a certified and licensed electrician, he, of all people, would know all of ComEd's silly requirements. We were left wondering if maybe, just maybe it was left out on purpose so he could come back and charges us an additional $125.00.
Description of Work: Installed 100 amp service on an outbuilding that we own. We provided the electrical box and breakers.
