The tech was honest and did a great job. The price was about double. Next time I will ask more questions even when someone is referring them. Also I should have check Angie's List first.

Monroe was brought into our unit without our knowledge more than once by building engineers or staff. It's difficult to describe just what the story is except that they don't want to look at the temperatures I've recorded on many, many days. They've never offered anything of help that will actually work. They just keep looking for ways to tell us what we're doing that keeps the building system from working, i.e., keep the lights off--which we always have done; don't run the appliances which we always have done; open the door to the hallway to get better air circulation, a habit which is not favorable to neighbors and/or fire prevention, etc. We do have a wine cooler which they say adds heat, but aside from that and the refrigerator, we basically don't run other appliances. The wine cooler is new, high energy & does not cause this problem. The problem is that the building doesn't want to admit we have a problem, so they don't want us to do anything to fix it. Unbelievable! We've shown building staff electricity bills which are 3 times higher to run the fans than it was to cool our 3000 square foot house before we moved into the building. (Our apartment is under 2000 sq feet.) Obviously the fans are ineffecient. Monroe wants to keep changing the thermostats, but they actually read out what separate thermometers read. They or our building staff like to keep changing the thermostats at a few hundred dollars a clip to them. That has no effect on our ineffecient fan system.
Description of Work: Monroe is the heating & air conditioning company contracted by our building to provide service, upkeep, maintenance for our outdated system. Between our building engineer, building board, and Monroe, we basically have NO air conditioning at all. It is ineffective on the higher floors particularly on the East and South sides that get morning and daytime sun without being shielded by other higher buildings. Rather than working with us in finding a livable solution to our 90 degree days and nights, they tell us the building system is functioning well and that it is our appliances causing the heat. We are willing to upgrade our system ourselves--as are others in our building--at our own expense. We have no appliances that are causing undue heat besides normal kitchen, washer/dryer, etc. We don't even use our electric lights because of the heat. Monroe is not being honest about what our building needs are but rather are more interested in keeping their contract with our building. Our home there is unlivable.

It took 4 separate visits to correct the problem which was very frustrating, but we felt we had no choice as we didn't want to start over with a different company. In hindsight, we realized that Monroe hadn't fully diagnosed the problem from the start, and instead was using a trial-and-error approach which resulted in additional time and cost to us. In addition, one service man sent by Monroe wasn't able to perform the necessary work because he couldn't fit behind our furnace; as a result Monroe had to schedule another appt with us to complete the job. We tried to speak to one of the owners about a compromise on cost, but they weren't receptive.
Description of Work: We called Monroe to service our furnace, which was not operating properly and left us without heat in the middle of December. In the end, we wound up replacing the pilot assembly, thermostat, smart valve and the circuit board.

ONE THING I LIKED ABOUT THEM IS THAT THEY WERE SO THOROUGH AND REALLY TALKED TO US ABOUT THE MAINTENANCE OF THE UNIT. HE CLEANED THE UNIT VERY WELL AND TOLD US JUST HOW TO KEEP IT UP AND RUNNING. WE WOULD DEFINITELY USE THEM AGAIN.
