Description of Work: They solicited us and convinced us they could get our insurance to cover the cost of hail damage. They did all the work with the insurance adjusters and got us an estimate so we only had to pay our deductible. The quality of the product was okay and they did a lot of work to get us started. But it took about six months for them to come back and finish. We went for a long period when they didn't return our calls telling us when they would finish. Then they kept calling almost every day telling us they would be here to finish but kept not showing up. The job finally got done and they were very pleasant about it and made sure we didn't get charged any extras. Definitely huge plus for the work with the insurance but huge fail on customer service.

Like many others in our neighborhood, we were approached by this company to inspect for hail damage and offer replacement of siding and roof, if approved by our insurance company. Our insurance approved the roof and 3 sides of house for $10,000. First Choice said they would replace all the siding (all sides) and roof, but no gutters or downspouts for that amount. After signing their 1 page work order and paying our deductible, but before insurance issued a check to us/Mortgage, First Choice proceeded to replace the roof the next day and the siding a couple days after. The work done by the sub contractors (roof and siding) was fine, but getting them to follow-up on any "punch-list' items was extremely difficult, if a work crew was not in the immediate area. The work on house was done by June, we ended up painting the shutters and reinstalling them ourselves. So, even though the quality of work by sub contractors was adequate, the real problem for us was getting the First Choice owner to provide adequate paperwork back to us for our insurance and mortgage companies. First Choice came back to us also (after work was done) and requested additional money (approx. $11,000) due to new code requirements for the new work as compared to what was in place when the house was originally built, which the insurance company approved and issued a second check for that amount to us/Mortage. Our mortgage company required an estimate for all work, a signed contract (not work order) and money/checks to be kept as well as other pertinent information until they reviewed and released 1 final check back to us to pay First Choice, which was all very reasonable and professional. It took us until October 2014 to get the required paperwork from First Choice and then a final check for the full amount was given to them in person (they came to our house for it). We thought we were done! Then in December 2014, an e-mail was received from the owner saying they had not been paid!! After a return e-mail and a phone conversation reminding them that they had received the full amount and had come to our house to get the check. They realized they would not get another check (they had expected a "second" check??) and so after a terse "thanks" from them that was the end of that. I followed up with our insurance company and mortgage and have kept notes/records of everything. We also heard about similar follow-up work and paperwork complaints from our neighbors who hired them. Overall, their office practices and professionalism were very lacking in any kind of organized standards.

The installation process was great. The crew showed up on time and completed the siding install as promised. The gutters were backordered and did not get installed for a few weeks, but eventually were completed as promised. My only problem with the company was getting a final itemized invoice so the insurance company could complete the final payment. As far as I know, there was no invoice and no final payment. If the company is okay with that I guess I am, too. Just seemed a strange way to do business.

Description of Work: During the summer of 2013 we noticed many neighbors having their siding and roofing replaced. After investigating we discovered that they had experienced hail damage from a June storm. We didn't think we had any damage until a representative from 1st Choice Exteriors approached us in May 2014 with an offer to assess our home for damage. Upon further inspection, it became clear that we did have damage to our siding. An inspection by our insurance adjustor confirmed that we had hail damage to three sides of our house and 1st Choice agreed to replace all four sides (but not gutters and downspouts) for the amount provided by our insurance claim minus deductible. We paid an additional fee to have the house covered with insulation backing underneath the siding. Our insurance adjustor did not find roof damage, but our house is 20 years old and the roof shingles were rated for 20 years, so we decided to have 1st Choice replace the roof also. The roof was replaced first, and the crew was efficient and professional. The only glitch occurred during the delivery of the roof shingles early that morning. The delivery truck brought the wrong shingle color, so they were delivered later that morning while the workers removed the old roof. Therefore, there was no appreciable delay... the roof was finished in one day. Cleanup of the work area was satisfactory. Because we were not having gutters and downspouts replaced, 1st Choice offered to arrange for them to be painted to match our trim color. Because the painter was not officially employed by 1st Choice, his work is not evaluated here. However, it is important to note that, while painting trim, gutters, fascia, downspouts, etc., his ladder damaged our gutters in several areas. The siding work was completed satisfactorily in one day. Except for a few inaccurately mitered corners, the vinyl siding is a major improvement to our old aluminum siding. However, in making some of the edge cuts, the siding crew had to cut away the ends of a few gutters. As a result, I requested that the gutters be replaced. 1st Choice agreed to replace all gutters and downspouts. The crew arrived the following week and removed the old and damaged gutters and all downspouts. When they attempted to install the new ones, I noticed the color was much lighter than our trim and, sure enough, the wrong color was ordered. A special order resulted in a delay of several days but ultimately they were installed and now match the trim perfectly. We also decided to delay installation of our shutters, because we decided to change the color scheme of our house before all work was started. 1st Choice had agreed to install our new shutters as soon as they arrived after we had special ordered them online. When they arrived we were told that we would have to wait a while because there was no longer a siding crew in our area. So our shutters are still in boxes in our living room awaiting installation. 1st Choice plans to have a representative install them early next week.

Our home insurance company did not approve the claim. After that, the vendor was nonresponsive. We called and asked them to pick up the sample books, which we'd left on the front porch. After two months of waiting, we finally threw them out.
