Rick and his team were great to work with! The whole process went really smoothly and was completely stress free. As soon as he had acquired the village permit the work started. Rick came on the first morning of the installation to go over a few minor changes due to position of utility lines and our plat not being quite correct. We gained an additional 10 feet at our side boundary and it only increased the estimate by $77! The whole project was completed in under 2 days - fast with no reduction in quality. The hardware on both the gates looks great too. I would definitely recommend Rick and Woodmaster Fence.

Wood master did a very nice job installing my fence. I received 5 estimates and Woodmaster Fence was among the most economical that I received. I was impressed with their knowledge and professionalism. I will definitely use them again in the future.

Rick Manderscheid came to my home a week ago to see what repairs were needed. He was very thorough and professional, and his final cost estimate was less than I expected. He could have inflated the cost and I wouldn't have known, but he was honest and ethical, qualities I value highly. The work was done yesterday and it looks great. The posts he replaced were set in concrete, far superior to repair work I had done last year by someone else. All of the old damaged materials were taken down and hauled away. I would highly recommend this company and will definitely use them again whenever the need arises.

Woodmaster Fence was 1 of 4 contractors selected from Angie's list. Their bid was very competitive compared to the others, but the selection was based on the professional attitude conveyed by the estimator, who happened to be the owner. Woodmaster Fence called the day before starting work to confirm logistics. The crew arrived the next morning to start the project. Project was completed in 2 days. The crew was very professional and courteous. I would highly recommend them to friends and family.

Rick is incredibly knowledgeable and professional. Although it didn't work out financially for us to do the fence this summer, we will definitely be going with Rick next summer when we will be able to afford it.

No one ever came to give me a quote.

I hired Rich about a yr when I needed repairs to just 1 section of my chain link fence. I also had him put a bottom rail on that section to make it sturdier and keep my dog from digging there. It was quite annoying how he wouldnt actually schedule anything w/ me. I get that a fence company works around weather- but you MUST know how far out you are currently scheduled, wouldn't you think?? Tell me maybe a week, or maybe 5 months?! NOTHING... he just wouldn't schedule. So I waited... then randomly one day I got a phone call and email stating that they were at the house to do the work. Well I was gone for the wknd. I had absolutely no idea they might even be considering coming out that wknd... so they did the work, but I told Rich that he would have to wait for payment until after I returned home to see and approve the work. It was done very well, and I was happy with the work. I paid him. Now this yr- I wanted bottom rails installed on all the sections of my fence (9 more sections). I decided to go with Rich again cuz his price was still decent, and I knew his work. I regret this completely! First, I couldnt get him to tell me anything concerning schedule and how far out he was booked... so I waited, and waited, until I just got so annoyed cuz there was so many other things I needed to do to my backyard, that was all waiting on the bottom rails to get installed... and again, I wasnt being impatient wanting him to drop everything and come do my work... BUT I did except to be told something concerning approximate wait time. So I emailed him stating that this was absurd and I needed an estimated time... and I told him several days that I would be open in availability... then he said 1.5wks out was what he would shoot for... great!! But again- he said he would shoot for that... so again, I didn't hear anything at all from him until a$$early Saturday morning when guys were knocking on my door. I went out to let them in the back and they honestly didnt looked surprised one bit when I told them I had no idea they were coming... they surely are used to it I guess... I went through what was to be done and explicitly stated how the rails were to be as low to the ground as possible... the guy confirmed. They did the work... I was gone when they finished, but I had a million voicemails from Richard just saying to call him. Well I went out to see, and saw that the bottom rails were installed, but half were almost a **** foot off the ground....?! I ordered bottom rails... not mid rails!! The whole purpose was to help keep all the critters out that kept getting in and causing havoc on my yard and making my dogs crazy... I told Richard in a long detailed explanation that I was annoyed cuz I waited for his work again because I thought I knew the quality and craftsmanship- but I was wrong. I told him the rails were too far up. Then... I get a nasty emailed response from him stating that I wasn't there when I said I would be, blah blah blah... and that the guys would be out the following wknd. I had to respond with 'what are you talking about' and 'did you even read the email'??? He responded, but didnt even address the fact that he snarked at me and was completely wrong! Just said they would be out to fix it the following wknd, and he was so rude stating that I must be there, and I must watch and approve the work and I am not to leave until they are done. Granted, this was one of the open availability dates I had originally given him... but that was for the install... not the fix for crap work done! I told him I wouldnt be home because I had my military duty... then he got soooo rude that I pretty much put him in his place because I had more than enough of him!! I told him that I hired him because I thought his work was good, and trusted him and didn't think I would need to babysit the workers... so he just said they would be out still and that I was to contact him when I was back home to approve the fixes. He also told me that he has no idea what guys will work each day until they show up to pick up supplies...?! What kind of company is this???? How does that make any sense at all??? Well.... I got home and went to look.... the rails were lowered to appropriate levels as they should have been. The guys did lower my gate doors as well, which I was not expecting, so that was a decent surprise.... However.... the metal ties they used on all the sections to hold the rails on- they used the plain metal gray colored ones... on my black fence....?!?!??! It looks absolutely pathetic! It looks cheap, shoddy, and so unprofessional!! I could not believe it! THEN... I see that when they untied the other black ties originally used, they just left them there... under the rail and the ends just sticking out... just waiting to puncture one of my dogs paws or rip up my mower! I was livid! I emailed him telling him all this. Rich then sent me an invoice. Never responded a single word to my complaints and concerns. That wraps up this guy and his company! He is terrible! Exact wording from our email traffic: Me: They came. I did not have notice that they were until the very last second again. There are several of the sections that are not low to the ground though and I'm not completely happy about that. I contacted you again because i was very happy with the one you did last year. It is not the same at all. Small animals can still get through and it will not do anything when my dog digs around like he does. The one that was done last year was perfect. Him: As I said previously, I never know if the bguys are going to work a Sat. until they pick up the material. I called and emailed you op On Sat. as soon as that happened. I actually called you on Sat. three times and never got a response. I also stated previously that the best way to get a hold of me was by cell phone. You said you would be there all day Sat. but you were not. You left before the job was completed or we wouldn't be having this problem. We will be back June 3, 4, or 6 - the dates you specified that you would be home all day. Me: What are you talking about? I was home. They were here. They did the job. But i am not happy with the job. I even talked to the guy directly and stated that i wanted the rails to be as low as possible on each section. I asked if that was what he planned to do, he said yes. He did not. As i stated, several sections are not low, and have quite a bit of space before the bottom.... I hired you again and dealt with the non-scheduling issue again, because i liked the one bottom rail that was done last year. This year was completely different and I'm not happy that i went with as many sections as i did because the quality was not the same. Him: The installer for WoodMaster Fence will be there Sat. 6/04 at 7:30 a.m. You must be present to show him the changes you want completed. Please stay there until he is finished to approve the changes. Please confirm you will be present at this time. Me: I will not. I'm on the range on military duty all wknd. Him: It seemed like a good time because that it one of the times YOU picked. How about Mon. 6/06 at 6:30 a.m.? (in the email he has 'YOU picked' underlined to emphasize his nastiness) Me: You know what Richard, you're really starting to **** me off. I told you those days were available because I would not be home, which means the dogs would not be there. And I didn't think I had to be there for your guys to install. Didn't have to last time, and I trusted you from the prior work. THAT is why I picked those days.. So I would appreciate you laying off the sarcasm in your responses. It seems to me you don't even know the guys who work for you, because you don't even know who's going to be working until they show up? I'm not sure what kind of business you're running... Him: O.K., he'll be there tomorrow Sat. 6/04. Call me when you get back to approve the work 847.727.2912. Me: (after returned/ after work was done): They came and lowered the rails to the height I expected. However, why they would use silver metal ties to hold down black rails is beyond me...??!! It looks like crap, and in my opinion, is exceptionally shotty craftsmanship and quite amusing in a very not funny way. They also left numerous of the old metal ties just sitting there sticking out waiting to cause injury to my dogs' feet. They also did not put back the line of landscaped rocks they moved... They did, however, lower the gates so it has much less space below them, which I wasn't expecting them to do so that was a decent surprise. Do you have a paypal account? If so, send me the invoice so I can pay it. Please don't ever list me as a customer reference, as I was not happy with this second encounter with your business and would not recommend you. Woodmaster did an excellent job! The crew was very professional and hard-working. They worked overtime on the first day to finish 75% of the job (my estimate) because of heavy rain was predicted for late on the second day. The fence is very well made and beautiful!! I highly recommend Woodmaster.

Richard and the crew arrived right on time on the specified day. They were a very hard working crew putting in long hours. It was a three day job. The fence looks great and I'm very pleased with it. They also cleaned up the job to my satisfaction. I would definitely recommend this company.

We contacted Woodmaster fence to install a chain link fence around our house. Richard provided a very detailed estimate, promptly responded to our questions and explained all the work to be done in great detail. The company took care of all the village permits and performed the work soon after the permits were obtained. The crew showed up early in the morning, worked hard through the day and finished the job in the evening. All work that they performed was impeccable, they were clean and professional. Job well done.

Our ornamental aluminium fence is 35 years old and many of the pickets were bent or the bottoms had broken off due to being hit by lawnmowers and other causes. It looked terrible and our new puppy could easily squeeze under the fence. The first two fencing contractors I called told me my only option was to replace it and gave me estimates ranging from $17,500 to $21,000 for a similar fence. Richard was the only one to tell me the manufacturer still produced an identical fence and the broken pickets could be replaced. The job was done a few weeks later and it looks great. Obviously the new pickets are blacker and shinier than the ones that have been standing for 35 years, but it really isn't as noticeable as I thought it would be, and I'm sure in a couple of years they will blend right in. THe gates now close properly. All this for $935.00 as opposed to $21000! I couldn't be happier.

Richard Manderscheid of Woodmaster Fence was incredibly responsive, answering my first contact through Angie's List within a very short time (same day) of my putting in an inquiry. Due to poor weather coming back, I followed up to see when he would come out for an estimate. Again, a prompt response and he came out quickly. He even arranged for JULIE to come out to mark off where utilities/cable was in the yard, saving me the effort of doing this myself. The estimate was reasonable and the contracting process very easy. He then came out soon thereafter and performed all work. The repairs are excellent and the sections fixed are quite sturdy and should hold for another 20 years. He also hauled away the old fencing! Top notch service! Should we experience any further issues with our fence, I would absolutely use Woodmaster Fence again.

Rick (Owner of Woodmaster Fence) quoted a fair price for the work necessary and scheduled the work promptly. The two workers who did the repairs, Francisco and Jose, arrived when promised and completed all repairs as represented by Rick. Work entailed removing old posts which were set in cement, installing new posts, pouring cement, replacement of decayed and damaged pickets and cross members, and cleanup. They worked efficiently and cleaned all debris. Job site was left in great condition. I would recommend Woodmaster Fence to anyone needing fence repair or installation. Process from start to finish was effortless for us! We were able to get a quote over the phone because our repair was straightforward. This was a big timesaver! The quote was realistic. I spoke to Richard throughout the entire process and he was excellent at communicating with us throughout a weather delay and even called after the work was completed to make sure we were happy. Very happy with their professionalism and courtesy!

We recently had some very strong winds which took down a gate and associated fencing. I called WoodMaster Fence and talked with Rick Manderscheid regarding the gate repair and also some additional posts that I had previously supported with braces. The crew that performed the work arrived on time, removed all the damage posts and set new post in concrete. They repaired the downed gate and adjusted both gates so they now open easily. They removed all the damaged material and left the backyard clean. We have had other contractors provide repairs over the years, however I was never as satisfied as I was with WoodMaster and their crew. When it is time for a new fence I will call WoodMaster Fence again. Thanks Rick

i called WoodMaster Fence (Rick Manderscheid) and asked if they could fix our fence, part of which had blown down in the recent severe windstorm. I had propped it up temporarily, but was concerned that our dogs would find a way to knock it down or move the loose areas and escape. It was something of an emergency situation. He came out I believe the next day, sent his man out shortly thereafter, and Saturday five posts were replaced to match the others, he fixed the latches (which were off kilter), and everybody is happy. All was done expertly, courteously and efficiently. I will call them again when needed.

We had part of a wooden fence blow over during recent high winds. This happened just as we were ready to put our house on the market so we needed it fixed asap. Talked to Rick who said they were very busy with customers who also had similar wind damage to their fences. However, he said he would try to fit us in that same week. We were happy and surprised when he called us a few days later to schedule us for the next day. The crew arrived when they were expected and did a great job, despite it being cold and windy. We are very happy with the results and responsiveness of Woodmaster Fence and would definitely use them again!

Wood Master Fence was very efficient and easy to work with in repairing our stockade fence. There was extensive damage due to fallen trees and age. They were able to make the repairs and replace sections without replacing the existing fence. Had several quotes for repair and their estimate was very fair.

The communication was clear, timely and work performed was quick and to high standards. The gates open without a problem just like original condition.

Richard responded quickly to my request for a quote and arrived at the appointed date and time to measure the property. He was able to accommodate my request to quote two fence heights and several styles. He advised the amount of time to allow for a building permit that he would obtain. He also gave me an approximate start date which he later confirmed. His crew arrived on Tuesday and completed the installation on Thursday as I had been advised. The old fence was taken away and the area along the fence length was left neat and clean. I am very pleased with the new fence and the professional work performed.

Rick was very responsive, came out to the house promptly and provided a quote in short order. All work was done in a professional manner and completed per the contract. I would definitely use WoodMaster Fence for future repair work.

This is the second time I've used WoodMaster Fence this summer, and both times I have found them to be fair and honest in their dealings, punctual, fairly-priced, and high quality. The first time I used them, I was prepared to install a new fence (based on feedback I'd gotten from another vendor), but Rick advised me to spend less money and do some repairs rather than install a new fence. Among the repairs were building a nice new 4 foot gate and replacing several wood-rotted areas of the fence. The second time I used them was to re-build my second gate, as well as other sections of fence that were damaged by the tornado that hit Grayslake/Wildwood in early August of this year. Fortunately none of WoodMaster's previous repairs were impacted by the storm (though a fencepost I replaced on my own was), so there was no re-work of the original work they had done. In addition to the storm damage repair, I also asked them to do some preventative replacement of 2x4s and fence posts that was quoted at a fairly cheap rate. After the work was done, Rick mentioned that some of the work wasn't accurately quoted (which wasn't a shock given the rate), but rather than passing some or all of the charge to me he acknowledged the mistake and insisted on eating it himself. I'm glad to have found a service provider I can trust that does good work. I wouldn't hesitate to use WoodMaster Fence again.
