We contacted Rock Solid Builders because of their nearby location as well as their excellent reviews. Our 25 year old deck needed leveling as one corner had sunk, as well as needing other repairs. Rock Solid was booked up for several weeks, but they told us that they might be able to work us in earlier in if their workers were in our area. They called us on a Friday well ahead of the scheduled time. The men were at our house promptly at the scheduled time of 7:00 AM. They were professional and friendly. They finished the deck that day and did an excellent job of cleaning up the area. We were very pleased with their work and will certainly consider them for any future work.

I had one multilevel deck and one other separate deck that had rotted over time and needed major repairs. While most of the companies I spoke with wanted to tear up and rebuild the entire deck structures, RSB informed me they thought the frame and flooring were still sound and suggested they tear off and replace the side boards and railings. I had the estimated cost within a few days. After I agreed to the project, they immediately sent me an estimated date for the start of work. Since this was months in advance I was not expecting it to be exactly on this date. They did contact me about a week before, to let me know they were running behind due to weather delays and injury. However, they were only delayed less than a week. They were very responsive to my e-mails and ended up starting a day earlier than the second estimated date. I worked from home the first day and was surprised and pleased at how punctual and professional everyone was and how quickly they worked. They completed the entire project in three days, exactly as they said they would. Everything was cleaned up from the construction and the work was recognizably professional and well built. I had an old gate on the old deck and though they had not planned to put in a gate, they did it for me, without complaint, when I asked them to. The new gate is not only aesthetically pleasing but much sturdier and easy to open, close and latch. I could not be more pleased with the work and the project.

My old cedar wood deck needed to be replaced. I researched types of deck and approximate cost to build a new one. I came up with the relatively new "Trex Deck" design. I proceeded to review Angie's list to find a competent "Trex Deck" installer. I found three area contractors and called them out to bid. Rock Solid Builders was responsive and ended up the middle bid as far as a price. All three quotes were within 10-15% of each other. I chose Rock Solid simply because of their reviews and my wife and I both thought they were the most professional and just seemed to be more knowledgeable about both the Trex product and the art of building a deck. Their quote was thorough and expansive so you know what they were going to provide. They explained at the bidding that they were a good 7-8 weeks out so there was no surprise as to the timing. They did all the paperwork etc to apply for the permit so that was all taken care of. When it came time to start the deck we communicated and they began the job. The one minor hiccup on the job was that they forgot to send me the PDF drawing for the job. When I noticed a post being set at the wrong spot we were able to it correct it immediately. They gave me time-table of one to two weeks for completion depending on rain etc... They were done in just over a week I communicated daily with the workers on site and they answered any and all my questions, or concerns. I also communicated frequently with "Anna" at the office and she was very prompt and wonderful and easy to communicate with. The workers were neat, cleaned up the site daily and a great friendly crew. It sure looks like the deck is built strong and is going to last with little or no maintenance required. I would definitely use Rock Solid Builders again. Grade "A+"

I could not have imagined a better experience. Everything from start to finish was professional and thorough. Anna and Butch are great communicators and I was never left wondering about anything along the way. The crew was timely and professional and completed the work in the time promised. They were also very helpful when I had any questions. I waited 10 years to be able to afford to do this right and I don't have a single regret. They did an amazing job and the deck is absolutely beautiful. I couldn't be more pleased and would highly recommend them to anyone.

Talk about quick follow ups, response to phone call, quality work, and friendly and knowledgable staff/ installers. There a FEW folks I can leave the house and be at ease that things are going super smooth and perfectly. Our installers were kind, respectful, and very hard workers!!

HAVE USED CONTRACTOR BEFORE FOR TREX DECKING. WOULD NOT HESITATE TO RECOMMEND FOR THIS SERVICE. WORK WAS PERFORMED IN A TIMELY AND PROFESSIONAL MANNER. WORKERS WERE FRIENDLY AND ANSWERED ALL QUESTIONS. WORKERS BEGAN THE DAY PROMPTLY AND FINISHED PROJECT IN STATED TIME. QUESTIONS TO OWNER WERE ALWAYS ANSWERED QUICKLY. I DO NOT KNOW OF ANY ONE ELSE IN OUR AREA THAT PERFORMS THIS WORK AS WELL AS THEY DO.

Curt, Butch and crew were punctual and responsive . Had incredible challenges with Port Barrington Building Inspector, who was totally and completely out of line and yet Rock Solid pursued the completion despite the ridiculous demands and rude behavior of the inspector. We have to say that, had it been us, we would have abandoned the project due to the incompetence of this individual who just continued to gouge the charges on our building permit and demands, even though he couldn't recite the building codes himself. But Butch and Anna were professional and persevered until the end. We couldn't be happier with the final product and appearance. Thank you for a job well done!

We can not say enough good stuff about this company. Everyone we had dealt with at RSB was committed to excellent customer service. They had ripped out our old rotting deck and replaced it with new Trex decking and a beautiful pergola that attached to our house. Butch and Anna were very helpful and patient in helping us plan our color choices- which was the most overwhelming part especially with all the combinations you can go with. Our installers Alec and Alex were top notch hardworking guys who completed everything flawlessly. They finished everything a month ago and I can't tell you how many of our neighbors have commented on how aesthetically pleasing and well built it is. I know the price we paid seems a little high but it was well worth it and no more painting or staining!

We are so very pleased with all aspects of our porch project done by RSB. I can honestly say that this was the best company we've worked with for a home improvement project, ever. The finished porch is beautiful and very well done! Our porch is a 16x14' screen room, with a cedar deck floor, knee wall, and A-frame roof with wide cedar car siding on the ceiling. We chose Rock Solid Builders because: -They had very good reviews on Angie's list and other sites -We felt that Butch really knew what he was doing when he came out to talk with us about the porch -Anna was extremely kind and prompt with getting back to us and answering all of our (many) questions, and provided detailed and clear answers -We liked their detailed quote and fair pricing -We appreciated that they were transparent in their pricing and updated the quote to show any changes or options we were considering (for example, cedar vs. pressure treated pine) Their responsiveness to our questions, their clear explanations, and the fact that they gave us exact pricing for different options really helped us feel confident that we were making informed decisions about our porch. For the project management and actual building... The project went very smoothly. RSB managed the whole permit process as well as scheduling for the plumber, electrician, and roofers needed for those aspects of the project. We didn't have to worry about this at all, which was nice. During the building, the RSB carpenters were on time (bright and early at around 7 every day!), and were willing to answer any questions we had. They explained things in a way that showed they knew what they were doing and were thoughtful in their decisions. When we were having various painting/staining companies come out for quotes (RSB doesn't do the staining), many of them mentioned how well done the porch was. We had a great experience and would HIGHLY recommend them to anyone without any reservations.

Butch and his wife are very easy to communicate and professional. They are on time for schedule and writing proposal. When Butch took measurement, he carefully checked my old deck condition by removing obstacles and logs to look underneath. He explained to me about all options in details and answered all my questions patiently. We didn't do the work because of tight budget. But we were impressed by them.

There were some changes to the existing deck layout that we wanted. They were very helpful with ideas to get what we wanted for the best cost possible. They also took care of getting permits and made this a pain free experience for us. They told us when they would start and when they would finish. They informed us of the hours they would work each day as well. Everything they told us was what they did! We even received emails telling us the start time would be delayed due to rain. Extremely professional! They still finished the project on time even though they lost some time due to rain. There were no excuses, no fuss. Rock Solid Builders is a great company to do business with. So many others will promise the world and fall short on delivery. You can count on Rock Solid Builders to exceed your expectations.

Rock Solid Builders were top notch! Every stage of the project was communicated fully and was displayed with total professionalism. Their working hours were consistent, they cleaned up after each work day and were happy to oblige any questions I had along the way. The craftsmanship and consistency of the deck project is perfect. We are very happy and look forward to Spring so we can enjoy our new deck fully.

It went better than I ever could have expected, except for the fact that I missed my initial appointment, but they were very forgiving. They exhibited absolute professionalism and quality in all areas of customer service, design and construction skills, builders, and communication. I changed my mind about the design a few times during the design process, and they quickly came back with the revisions each time. There was a bit of delay with the start of the project due to an illness with one of builders, but they went above and beyond to remedy this situation and had another person out to start the project within a few hours. The project was completed on schedule and I could not be more pleased with the look of my new front steps. They look great and are solidly built just as one would hope, but it is their other qualities in customer service and honesty that I am so impressed with. This company should be the standard that all others should strive for. I strongly recommend this company.

These guys were the best! Super-nice on the phone, easy to schedule with, prompt in coming out, professional and courteous all the way! The company is great. Our deck is on the verge of collapsing, and has been a danger to our dogs and our kids who continue to romp on it even as the temperature has been falling. Rock Solid came out to look at our decrepit deck, and promptly sent us a very thorough estimate. Unfortunately, it is December in Chicago, which means that the only kind of deck they can install this time of year is composite and we simply couldn't afford that (our finished basement also flooded and everything else is simultaneously falling apart, so we are budget-constrained). We could only afford to replace with a wood deck, and they said they couldn't do that until April or so. Since time was of the essence (I'd already fallen through the deck twice as had one of our dogs), and we believed it was truly a hazard that needed to be fixed before then, we had to send our regrets to Rock Solid that we wouldn't be able to go with them. We'd found a contractor that could replace a wooden deck in December, and that's who we've decided to go with. So you won't be sorry going with Rock Solid Builders, and I thank them for their professionalism and communication.

We were always kept informed of when the work would start. We had a firm deadline and they met it. The workers arrived on time every day and worked continuously. They were professional and did a very nice job. It was a no hassle experience and our deck looks great--even better than what we expected. Another builder wanted to use aluminum gates at the entrances to the deck. Rock Solid fashioned gates out of the Trex railing material so everything matches nicely. The workers were employees of the company so the work was not contracted out to a third party. I would definitely recommend them.

Rock Solid Builders (RSB) was an absolute pleasure to work with over the duration of the project. We had engaged RSB very early in the Summer season as we knew that they are in high demand. We had to wait over 8 weeks for the start of the project but were willing to wait as they became very highly recommended. They provided a proposal with drawings of what the deck would look like upon completion. Before the project started, we went to the lumber company that works with RSB to look at Trex samples and get their insight. They had nothing but good things to say about RSB. After looking at the samples, we decided on an upgrade to the project with different shades of colors. Once the project started, a dedicated project manager was assigned along with a team that handled demolition and building. Materials were delivered the Friday before the project started along with a large dumpster. The team would show up daily about 7am. If we had any questions, we could ask the project manager when he arrived or we could also contact the RSB office. When the team finished for the day, they would clean up the area. Perhaps the largest advice I could provide is to NOT hesitate to ask questions (or raise concerns) along the life of the project. While RSB responded to ALL of our questions and concerns, it would have been beneficial to everyone had I now waited until the project was completed. That said, do not be afraid to ask about something/anything. Because we asked, we got the answers that we were looking for and are that much happier with our deck having done so.

Working with Butch, Anna and their crew was an easy, pleasant process. When Butch came for the initial estimate, he listened to my ideas and came up with a great design. When I had questions, Anna was quick to respond. My project was a combination of Trex for the deck floor, railings and stairs; and wood for support structure. A roof was added, along with screen panels and a storm door. There is also an area outside the screened deck for a grill. The ceiling inside the deck was finished with tongue and groove pine instead of just leaving open rafters. An electrician installed a ceiling fan/light, an electrical outlet and replaced an existing porch lights (both front porch and back deck). They also replaced four wooden columns on the front porch. Their crew showed up promptly every morning and continued until the projects was complete. They were very willing to answer any questions I had along the way. I am very pleased with the completed project; it exceeded my expectations. I have had neighbors stop by to say not only how great it looks but how impressed they are with the high quality of the workmanship. I would definitely recommend Rock Solid Builders.

We had originally received a quote in 2013 but could not go forward because of another project we had to do first. We contacted them in the spring and told them we were ready to move forward on a new deck but wanted to add a gazebo. They came out promptly and measured and got us a new quote within a few days. We looked it over and signed it within a few weeks. They gave us an estimated date and told us they needed a platt of survey to get the permit and that is where we ran into the glitch. I could not find a current platt of survey! We had to hire someone to come out and do a new one which took forever. Of course, once we got it Lake County wouldn't accept because it did not have the well measured out. Once we got past the issues with the platt they got the approvals quickly and kept us informed on dates. They started within a few days of our original discussed date. They were there at 7 am every morning, worked until it started to rain and would come back as soon as it stopped. They cleaned up every day before they left and were always available to answer questions. When we had an issue we emailed the office and got a response immediately. Most of my communication was through email so I could get immediate responses. They finished on time and we thrilled. It was painless, professional and they sent us a gift basket when they were done. I can honestly say I have never had a project go so well. My husband never had to call anyone with an issue.

It went very very well. Here are the things that I was particularly pleased with: --They scheduled the work well in advance --They handled all of the details of getting the building permit from the village of Fox River Grove for me. --They came when they said they were going to come. --They finished the job when they said they were going to finish. --It was extremely easy to deal with Anna via email to get details worked out. --And I am pleased with the result!

This company is a wonderfully reliable and and professional group. Butch, one of the owners is the estimator and overseer of all projects. We got an estimate in the spring for a deck design we worked on together, and Butch provided me with a computer drawing of how the finished project would look. Anna who handles the schedule and books submitted a written proposal and contract for the building of our deck. We were told that they were booking work and gave us a rough estimate on at the time frame for them to begin. We were a bit shocked to find that we would have to wait a few months before they could get us in. So our advice is book them early! After much massaging of our design and debate over which materials to use, we settled on the more expensive Trex material verses other lumber. We chose Trex for low to no maintenance, even though is was almost double in price to lumber. We selected Rock Solid Builders after getting other estimates, and found that they were the only ones in the area capable of creating a curved deck by heating and bending the Trex materials. The work on the deck started on the date they had promised and all was completed within a week. We were amazed at the amount of labor required to take down our porch and rebuild a new deck from scratch. But their guys Rob and Josh were prompt on the job each morning and started at 7 am and finished at 3:30. They cleaned up and kept thing as tidy as possible during the work. The only small problems we had were in an interpretation of the terms they use in constructing, like "girder" and which parts were to be completely wrapped in the Trex material. So I highly recommend that anyone building a deck ask tons of questions and definitions before you agree to the work. It will save any hassles at the end. One other caution would be if they use the oven to bend the Trex, be sure they don't do it on your lawn. Their oven left a significant burn spot on our front lawn, but we're hoping it will come back. Lastly with all of the cautions aside, I would "highly" recommend this company to anyone wanting a truly beautifully finished deck done in a most professional manor. Rock Solid Builders is a great name for the outstanding work they do. Final suggestion book them early, but they are worth the wait time.

It went fabulous! Very small company, just a husband and wife. Anna was probably the best customer service reps that I have ever dealt with. She was super responsive and knowledgable, on the ball with any questions and concerns. Butch was great as well, he knew the deck business very well, especially with the estimate. They were just great overall!

If we could give RSB an A+, we would. Their professionalism, timeliness, attention to detail, clean-up and general all around demeanor was remarkable. It seems that these days, it's hard to find a company that reminds you of the way businesses used to be. These guys were just very easy to work with and came through with everything that was discussed. Although they specialize in Trex composite decking, we prefer the look of real cedar and RSB hand picked the deck boards from their lumber supplier. You will not go wrong by choosing RSB for your deckwork.

RSB's professionalism extended beyond the owners to their crew working at our home. They were so kind and courteous and cleaned up after they were done for the day knowing our family still needed to use the outdoor areas of our backyard for our dogs. From day 1, the work provided by RSB crew was so high quality. They took their time in building out the deck frame and really used the old adage: "Measure twice, cut once." Anna was so patient with us as we really had a difficult time with color combinations (SO MANY TO CHOOSE FROM) and helped guide us with the tools that TREX offers their installers. She even came to our home to drop off color samples! AMAZING CUSTOMER SERVICE FROM START TO FINISH! The sub-contractors that RSB used also extended the same professionalism that RSB promotes with their staff. This was the most positive experience we have had with a contractor! Wouldn't even think twice about recommending them to my family and friends!
