K & M Pool Services

I was using Downes Pools service for the first 10 yrs. I owned my home. I switched the last 8 years to K & M Pool Service and couldn't be happier. I can't tell you how professional Matt & his team are. Matt is extremely honest, has never overcharged me like Downes has, and is very responsible. He goes the extra mile to always make sure I'm completely satisfied. I'm sad to say, I'm moving to a new home that does not have a pool. If I decide to build one, Matt will be "The Man" to help me with the process.

K & M is wonderful. We have used K & M for a few years now. Matt has always been a hard worker and very professional. He understands pools and give the owner great advice on equipment, service, etc. We highly recommend!

I have been a K & M customer since Spring of 2013. In Sept 2013 I gave Matt a really glowing review here on Angie's List which he rightly deserved. Up until just recently K & M has been a great company to work with and much of what I said in that first review still stood. Not so much any more, which was totally unexpected. I called Matt the first week of Sept., as usual, to get on the schedule for closing my in ground pool. He said he wouldn't be able to come out til the end of the month (which was fine with me) and would call at the month's end to let me know when he would be out. Last week of Sept. went by with no call so I called & left a message. No call back. Called/messaged him again 1st week of Oct. and still haven't gotten a call back. I read reviews here that allude to health issues which could be why I've gotten no calls, but until I read those I was really furious. Regardless, even if that is the reason, at the least, a call to say he couldn't do the job would have been nice so I could find another pool company sooner. The temp is going to be in the 30's tonight so time is of the essence or my pipes could freeze. I've found a new company now and they will be out next week so I can stop panicking. Matt, if you are ill, I'm sorry. That's why I gave you a D instead of an F, but I had to do what I had to do. I hope that by next Spring things will have worked out for you and we can resume our professional relationship because I still think you are one of the best pool guys out there.

This is the third year I tried to use K&M services. I need some work on the pool plumbing, and want to have the pool closed, but after numerous unanswered texts and emails, I have simply given up. The first year I used them they were great. And they opened my pool this season with no complaints. I know there have been some health issues but a simple text reply or email response would at least let me know that my attempts to contact them have been seen. I don't want to be overly critical if there are extenuating circumstances but as a customer, I feel I should expect some response.

Matt is a really nice guy. I like him a lot. For some reason during the pool seasons for 2015 and 2016, after opening the pool he was completely unavailable and did not return email or texts. I think there were some health issues but when running a business you need to find a way to respond, however briefly, to customers. During the years Matt did our pool we had a new pump and filter installed. He did a good job but thinks went down hill after that.

Signed up on K & M website for a call back on pool filter installation, they never contacted us. I would at least expect a call back even if they are to busy to do the job. I don't understand business's like this who treat customer's like they don't even exist, I guess they have enough money already.

I had emailed him a few times and called him a few times, and it took over 2 weeks for him to finally respond to me. In his response, he informed me that they do not service above ground pools, which they do not advertise. I think he should have responded to me earlier so that I could start looking for someone else to do the work.

Matt came out in May and opened my pool. I was very pleased with his service and was excited about working with him on the closing and some other work I wanted done then.. After leaving 3 voice mails and sending 2 emails with no response, I am very disappointed with the poor level of service and lack of professionalism. I also referred a couple friends to this company and they also reported that their phone calls were never returned.

We have bought a home with an existing in ground pool. The provider for the previous owner and others were anxious to have the renewal. We interviewed 5 and chose K & M. That was in the spring of 2014. It is now fall 2014. We had an automatic pool cover installed and weekly service. If I had to describe the best service, value, and attitude, I would use this provider as an example. I have high praise for them.

MATT WAS RESPONSIVE TO MY INITIAL CALL. HE STOPPED BY THAT SAME DAY AND TOOK THE TIME TO DISCUSS OPTIONS FOR HEATING THE POOL, INCLUDING PROS AND CONS OF EACH. WEEKS LATER, HE WENT OUT OF HIS WAY TO DO EMERGENCY REPAIR WORK AS A RESULT OF A FENCE INSTALLATION. MATT OPENED THE POOL AND INSTALLED THE HEATER. HE EXPLAINED HOW TO USE THE EQUIPMENT AND WAS AVAILABLE LATER TO ANSWER QUESTIONS. I WILL USE THIS COMPANY REGULARLY FOR ALL POOL NEEDS.

Same experience as the previous reviewer. Need quite a bit of work done on our pool. Was excited to find such a highly-rated contractor, but didn't return call or at least take one second to call back and say he was busy and would call back later, nothing.

I cannot say enough good things about Matt and his company. I have a concrete in-ground pool that is over 20years old. When he came to close the pool last fall it really resembled a stangnant pond. In addition there were leaks, broken brick work on a spa that made it dangerous. We agreed to review repairs this spring. As I look at my pool today it sparkles blue. He hired a subcontractor to fix all the masonry and oversaw all the work. It was far cheaper than I could have managed to get on my own and looks amazing. For the cost of a standard opening he removed algae and years of limescale build up. I needed a new heater and chlorine dispenser, they were very reasonable and installed for very little hourly charge. I have new lines and an autofill installed - again for very little labor charge. He is passionate about his work and it shows, but his charges are very very reasonable. Both cosing and opening was significanty (as in less than half) what I was being charged by a different company. I would recommend Matt and his team to any one looking to have someone service their pool.

It never did "go". Could not get callback from K&M Pools unfortunately. Went with another company out of Gurnee.

Engaged the Vendor (Matt) in November of 2013 to come and give me a quote to fix our indoor pool that had been shut down when we bought our house in August. The pool had black algae growing at the bottom and were told by the sellers real estate agent that the pool was unusable and that it had a leak so the previous owner had shut the pool down. We did not have pool before and did not know anything of about pools when we called Matt to come and give us an estimate. Matt arrived on time the day he promised he would be at our house, inspected the pool gave us a very reasonable quote of what it would take to get the pool going when compared to other vendors we got estimates from. He was very professional and helpful in answering all our questions advising us on the basics of upkeep of the pool. Was very impressed by his honest and straight forward answers and engaged him for the project. He and his team cleaned the pool, filled it, checked for leak, fixed it, got the water heater up and going and got it ready for us on time to enjoy it during the winter. Have been using this company to service our pool since then and to date have to say we are extremely pleased and happy with the services. After buying our house in August we have engaged many companies to perform work in and around our house and have to say that this company (Matt) stands out as one of the most trusted vendor we have worked with.

The service call went absolutely great - K&M arrived on the scheduled day and time as promised, were very professional and courteous, and demonstrated complete knowledge and confidence in their work. The winterizing estimate was inline with the services rendered and I would definitely recommend on this basis alone. However, I cannot grant an 'A' rating. It took K&M quite a few days to return my original call, to the point where I was writing a very negative review and ready to call another vendor. After we had agreed on price and set a service date, I received a call the week prior asking me if it was OK to push out my service another week. I reluctantly agreed; if it were easy to line this type of work up so late in the season (mid-October) I would have totally gone with someone else.

They did a good job. They were very detailed in making sure everything was done property. The price was well worth it. I would recommend them to all my friends with a swimming pool.

Came over once to diagnose and then a second time with the pump. He replaced it and actually fixed some miswired components and left me with a gallon of pool shock since we were talking about it.

It went fabulous. They are the only ones that ever actually washed our pool cover and put it away. No one has ever done that before so they were great!

I called and left a message and received a phone call from Matt very quickly afterward. He gave us estimates over the phone and did not go over the estimated price. We found them very helpful and very patient with all our many questions. We learned quite a bit that we did not know earlier. They found leaks in our pipes which will be expensive to fix. However, he gave us ideas on how to postpone the costly repairs and maybe get another season or two before we have to deal with these repairs. They seem to really know their stuff and are very professional. Their prices were the best that we found after checking several pool companies. We are very pleased with their work.

My pool opening experience this year was phenomenal and delightful. To be perfectly honest I have not had this smooth a pool opening in several years. I was starting to think there really were no pool professionals in my area, but I'm happy to say there definitely are. They are K & M Pool Professionals. In particular, Matt. I could not be happier or more satisfied with the way he handled my pool opening. Because of the long cool spring weather my pool was opened quite late this year. But we were swimming one short week later, which is a record for my pool. I was so happy to find that Matt is extremely knowledgeable. He really knows what he is doing and then gets it done!!! Past experiences with other companies were a lot of talk and nothing to back it up. Matt delivers what he promises and then some. After the first visit, he came back several times to check on the chemical balance and progress of the filtration. In addition to changing the sand in my filter, he made some minor repairs to my pump that no other pool co. even noticed. The circulation has never been better and we have had to run our pool cleaner half as often as we used to. He also recommended a chlorination device that could be installed on the filter instead of tossing chlorine tabs/pucks into the skimmer. We decided to do this, he installed it and our maintenance has been effortless this year. Fantastic!!! It couldn't be easier. We use chlorine in the chlorinator and shock regularly, that's it. We never had algae this year and our use of extra chemicals to maintain balance and clarity has been next to nothing, which is a huge savings. The chlorine and PH levels have been steady the entire season, even in the very hot temps. I have nothing but good things to say about Matt and K & M. Thanks for a great pool season. Looking forward to the closing and some other repairs next season.

I have currently used K & M for the entire summer and can't be more happy with their service and professionalism. Every time their was a problem or just a question, they were right there giving it their all. They installed a new heater, maintained it weekly and I have never had such a nice looking pool and water. They just seem to rally care. Period!

K & M Pool Services usually charges $250 for the pool opening but because I ordered the sun cover and some additional maintenance that was an additional price. They were excellent. The winter cover that they put on tore before the season so that was incredible, it said not to worry it was completely warrantied, he's going to close the pool at the end of this season and bring me a new cover. Everything they have done goes above and beyond. The price is excellent and the quality is excellent. He calls me back immediately, like within 20 minutes if I call him. He is totally on time and if he is running a little bit late he always calls. That I appreciate even more than being on time to just give me a heads up. As long as I know what I'm dealing with. He is the utmost professional, he always brings another worker with him and they are always professional.
