It was wonderful! They were very knowledgeable and got the job done fast.

My husband and I bought a house this last summer and one jobs that was supposed to be done before we moved in was house was to be rewired and all of the old knob and tube wiring was to be removed and hard wired smoke alarms were supposed to be installed before our closing date of 7/18/12. For starters they didn't start the job until the morning of our closing. My husband and I came to do our final walkthru and Mattoon Electric and gotten there right before we did to start the job and Matt Miller the owner of Mattoon Electric came up to my husband and told him that they were 1000.00 dollars over budget for the job (and they hadn't even done any work to the house yet) and told my husband that they would have to forgo the hardwired smoke alarms and put in battery operated ones. My husband told him that we didn't even own the house yet and Matt just continued to confront my husband about this. We left and went to the closing and got everything in regards to that done and then went back to the house. Over the next five days Mattoon Electric would come and work for approximately 2 hours and then leave for 2 hours and then come back and work for about 1-1 1/2 hours and then call it a day. Everyday and several time during the day Matt would come and confront my husband about paying him the money for the job in full ( and they weren't even close to being done). My husband told Matt that he wasn't going to pay him until the job was done. This really made Matt mad. My husband even had to resort to calling the city electrical inspector. When Matt realized that my husband had done this he threatened to charge us more money. This is how everyday that week was handled. When Friday finally got here the real estate company that was holding the payment for Mattoon Electric told my husband that they were going to release the check regardless and so Matt called my husband a vulgar name and not only didn't finish the work, they left my new house in shambles which took my a couple days to cleanup but I was without power in my kitchen and part of my dining room for 7 weeks until we could get another company to come in and fix the job that Mattoon Electric had started. We had to hire a another company to come in and fix the mess that Mattoon Electric had done and while the other company was here we found out that the work that Mattoon Electric had done wasn't even up to code!! While the other company was here fixing everything they got a call from a lady that was wanting to hire them to finish a job that another company had came to start the job got paid up front $9000.00 left and never came back...the name of that company was MATTOON ELECTRIC!!!! Between the our realtor and the realtor for the people who sold us the house and ourselves it cost another $1800 for the other company to come and fix Mattoon Electric's mess. I will never recommend Mattoon Electric to anyone for anything.

They gave me a verbal estimate for said amount and said they would be done rewiring an entire house in one week. They took four weeks and I never received a receipt for any of the work. I would guess they are not claiming anything for taxes so hire at your own risk.
