I've never had such a horrible experience with a business in my life! I called for a quote and I was told that they were simply too busy to make it over and would call me within the week to schedule. I never received a call, so I followed up and called them back. I immediately got an appointment scheduled for a quote.The man who came to give me the quote was terribly late (which is fine, I'm used to contractors!) but he sat on his cellphone the entire time and attempted to talk to me about the fence during his other important call. I, again, gave him the benefit of the doubt and assumed he was busy until I got my quote in the mail. The quote was for a 6' section of fencing and was about 3 grand. I specifically asked him to match the fencing we already had up (which was installed by terrace a few years ago) This fencing was obviously much taller than 6', so I immediately called the company to ask why he didn't match it. They re-calculated the price to 8' and sent the quote back. The quote was now over $4500. My husband is a carpenter himself and we were struggling to understand why a few extra square feet (or linear feet) would be $1500.00 more. So, he sat down and calculated the lumber and labor costs, because Terrace refused to itemize the quote when we asked for it. The prices were blown up beyond what we could've imagined, so we tried calling back again. My husband talked to the lady at the front desk and asked several times, very politely, to speak to the man who gave our quote. She refused to let us speak to him at first, but then told us the next day he would call us back, and of course he never did. I was starting to think the secretary had it out for us! Yesterday, we got sick of playing their games and called back, asking to speak to the owner. The lady at the front desk, Dottie, as she's called, told me SHE is the owner and literally asked me (so what do you think about THAT?) I asked her why she was being nasty with me. She told me that they don't come down on their prices and we need to take our business elsewhere and hung up on me.I still can't believe this happened. All I wanted was an itemized quote or some accountability for the $4500 I would've been shelling out to the company.I was never nasty to this woman at all, I was simply inquiring into the quote I was given. I'm not the type of person that shells out 4 thousand dollars without detailed explanation as to what I'm getting.The saddest part about all of this is that Terrace fence has created a Monopoly in the region because they've been doing business since the 70's. They probably USED to treat people right, and now they've got the only fencing business in southern illinois and they know it. I'm lucky that my husband can match their shadowbox frame easily with a level and jigsaw! I just feel bad for all the other people they may be taking advantage of.

It was last year after the storm that wiped out the fence I had. I came back home from work that evening and the tree was laying on my fence. It just swiped my house and wiped out the whole fence and all that. It had to be all replaced and when they replaced it, I had them to extend the length of it so the insurance paid for what got wiped out and I picked up the rest of it for the extension of it. First, I got an appointment and then the next thing that came was the guy that surveys the length, and what I want and all that stuff. He was very nice and friendly. He understood what I wanted and answered all my questions. When the crew came out which was of 2, it was extremely hot outside. It was an older guy and a young man. I asked them if I could get them anything to drink while they were taking a break, and they said they did not want any because they carried their own stuff. The entire job was paid by the job and not by the hour. It was so hot outside that they took a long break which I didn't mind because I would have done the same thing. They sat underneath a tree on water buckets and stuff and cooled off. I could not give them anything. They wouldn't take any ice or a hose out of my faucet for a washup or a cleanup. I would rate them highly and will use them in the future.
