SCOTT BOSECKER BUILDERS

Having previously built a home with a high-end builder, and having experienced financial losses on two homes we had recently sold, we were looking to build a good-quality smaller home at a reasonable price. We looked at a home built by Scott, liked it, talked with one of the subs working on it who also did work for high-end builders in the area. He was very complimentary of SBB. We met with Scott, felt he was straight-forward, honest, and low-key. We did not check any references. Works by himself with small crews only. We found an existing home we really liked, got a fairly detailed floorplan, and went to work. Contract for new home construction signed in late June 2011. Thought we might be in by Christmas 2011. Ended up moving into home in late June 2012, and that was pushing it. There were obviously multiple delays, poor timely communication between SBB and us, inadequate carpenters (i.e. not enough available), and in general we felt that we had to act as our own general contractor for many things: installed water purification system, researched water quality issues, arranged for all countertops, arranged for glass enclosures in baths, trouble-shot problems, felt that poor design eye was present in some areas (e.g. master bathroom toilet room not big enough to enter and close door without doing callisthenics around the door), poor collaboration between windows/door/trim supplier with multiple errors, atrocious painter with very poor quality (we will need to repaint the entire trim inside of the home), multiple inside projects that we simply let go of just so we could finish the job and move in. Multiple delays experienced in setting the move-in date. Did speak with a previous customer of same builder later in the process, and her account and experience was identical to ours. Overall, SBB is good quality for an average spec home. Would not recommend for any extensive custom work. Process was very difficult to endure. We had to constantly monitor the process, we requested all meetings instead of the builder, and generally felt exhausted by it all. However, Scott is a very honest man, does not cheat his customers, uses only trustworthy subs, and unfortunately these are in short supply and thus affected our experience. He was fair on price given the above problems. Would recommend SBB for projects that are already planned out to the very last detail, and expect to do a lot of the work ahead of time.
