Unfortunately, I have had to update an initially positive review- we have received no communication or follow-up after multiple attempts to contact for help with a failing house paint job. We hired Fryers for a significant exterior house paint job. With less than a year out, there is peeling paint in two different places on the house (keep in mind we paid for and used top-rated paint by consumer reports). While I am slow to pass judgment for this alone, Ben refuses to answer my professional phone calls or respond to texts asking for this to be made right. Notably, we paid extra (over $400 more) for supplies as well when the job was being initially completed as the job was misestimated. Further, we were asked to pay for the job before it was completed because Ben needed the money to pay employees. We did this, but it made for a difficult end of the project as we found errors that were difficult to get Ben to come out and fix, but he did fix our initial requests. It is unfortunate to see no follow-up within the first year. When we originally got the estimate I asked Ben if there was a one or two year warranty for his painting services as that is what I had on all the other estimates. Ben communicated he'd "definitely take care of us" but nothing was written. Unfortunately, his word has not proven true. I should note also that when we initially were asking for sloppy work to be corrected, Ben made it difficult and guilt-ridden in saying he performed extra services for us in painting an electrical pole alongside the house and a small one by the garage. I asked Ben to do this only because they had splashed paint on it in various different places that would not come off. It was the least they could do then to paint it- not as additional service, but just to make the job right. Leaving splashed paint on areas is not acceptable and asking to then have them painted is very reasonable from my perspective- buyer can judge. Now, months later I have continued to find places with splashed paint that was not cleaned up (gutter mounts on garage, shingles on the side of the house, etc. etc.) Perhaps the worst part of having to leave this review, and to Ben's credit, is he did give the best estimate (hence we had them do the job) and I do truly believe he is a nice person who seeks to make the customer happy. In this case, it became clear from him near the end of the job, that he underbid the job and, then the rules change. Apparently if money is lost or tight, it is unreasonable to fulfill what was signed up for. I am sorry the job was not bid where they later ended up thinking they should have, but you should be a businessman of integrity and still realize that we paid you in full (not to mention early and additional for paint than estimated) for the services you were to provide, and just because the job apparently ended up being more than you estimated in your mind does not free you from the contractual or ethical obligation to satisfactorily provide the services we paid for. Unfortunately I must say, "buyer beware." Ben is a nice guy, but if he feels he's underbid the job at the end, he won't complete it satisfactorily or offer warranty support. You may be better off paying more upfront for service you can depend on beyond the businesses bottom line.

Response from FHI
We here at Fryer’s Maintenance & Home Improvement understand that you cannot always make every customer happy but we give 110% effort in trying to do so. [Removed Member's Name] is one of these customers that unfortunately you will never be able to make happy. From the beginning of the job he had asked us not to do as much prep work on the house so that we could make the job less costly for him, he would not take our recommendation on paint brand and could not figure out what colors of paint he wanted to use. Throughout the job he changed his mind on colors multiple times resulting in us having to return paint 3 different times. He also took several days to even get back to us on what colors he wanted which caused the time frame of the job to be extended. He also had us paint the entire porch and then changed his mind on the colors of the railings so we had to go back and repaint the railings for free. On top of all this he added 4 to 5 extra items to be painted that were not on the original estimate which we ended up doing for free of charge (This was not due to any paint splashes as we have chemicals on truck to remove). He did end up paying $400 more than the original estimate, this was due to needing more paint, prepping items and primer because of two large awnings he wanted custom painted that were not on the original estimate. We even noted this on the invoice that he approved. After the job was completed [Removed Member's Name] did not want to pay us and kept coming up with reasons why we needed to come back. Even two of his neighbors looked at reasons he had us coming back and thought it was ridiculous. First review left by customer was full of good feedback and now he is changing his review. This is due to me turning down any future jobs for him because of his nature. At Fryer’s Maintenance we always try to take care of our customers. That is why when [Removed Member's Name] needed a trailer for a completely separate job that we were not completing we let him borrow a trailer free of charge. When [Removed Member's Name] had no way to take the trailer to the dump we hauled it away for him and only charging him the dump fee the dump charged (we made no profit). [Removed Member's Name] then took over 17 days to pay us back for the dump fee. No other contractor would do this for you for free. We are nice guys and go above and beyond for our customers but there comes a time when going above and beyond turns into being taken advantage of and has to come to an end. Hopefully no person in the future will have to go through this or be taken advantage of by this customer!
