Description of Work: Installation of 2 egress windows for our children's rooms in the basement. Don Krieg, Kriegs Quality Construction, also goes by Kreigs Quality Construction, never finished the egress windows and bringing them up to code. Mr. Krieg kept promising to come by and finish digging out the window wells and sealing the windows. He never came. On 07/22/11 the westfacing egress window leaked so badly that water flooded 3 out of 4 rooms. The damage caused by his negligence is between 10 and 12 THOUSAND dollars. State Farm has tried to help us contact Krieg to no avail. After the initial call to Krieg on 07/22/11 and his call to my hubby we received one text from him. On the day of the flood, Mr. Krieg promised to come by our home the next day. I called and texted him 6 times. He never responded. July 25, 2011, the city inspector failed the windows. A restoration company ripped out carpet, drywall and started up 3 industrial sized dehumidifiers, plus fans. The dehumidifiers and fans ran constantly for 3 days. Advanced Window Systems ended up coming to our aid and sealed the windows. My hubby with a broken foot, and our two teen boys dug out the egress windows to the proper depth, ONLY TO FIND THE CEMENT WE HAD PAID MR. KRIEG TO REMOVE BURIED IN THE WINDOW WELL! Mr. Krieg and his sons had buried the cement from his cutting our foundation for the windows in the egress window well instead of digging out the well and putting the proper drainage in them! When we hired Mr. Krieg, he assured us he had insurance. He gave us a written contract and written 2 year warranty on all labor. He REFUSES to give us his insurance information. He REFUSES to give State Farm his insurance information. State Farm's adjuster has called him numerous times using different phones as early as 6am and as late as 10 pm. Mr. Krieg refuses to answer his phone or return calls. The one text that I received from Mr. Kreig was on 07/26/2011. In that text message, he said that I was on my own and that he would not "take care of this one" for us. I have copies of his 3 texts long message sent to me to my phone. I can post them if needed. W We have filed with the Better Business Bureau also. He constantly changes his address: State Farm and we have found him using 3 different addresses. He claims to be a sole proprietor on one site. However, he is not registered in the county as a sole proprietor according to our State Representative's office. He claims to be a business/have a license. He is not registered as licensed in Illinois. He does not have an electrician, plumber, or roofing license in Illinois. I have looked under Illinois' professional regulations. He is not listed. (Those three contractor types are the only ones granted licenses in Illinois, except for straight business licenses.) On one website, he claims to have a business with 4 employees and one dollar shy of one million in revenue. Not true. We have prepared the materials to send to Lisa Madigan's office. We are considering filing a police report under home repair fraud: he claimed to have insurance in order to get our business. Menards recommended him to us. I have informed Menards of his breaking his contract and warranty. I've asked Menards for their help. Menards is now aware of this situation. I expect Mr. Krieg to give State Farm and/or us his insurance information. Mr. Krieg was the first contractor I had ever hired. NOW I know, GET A COPY OF THE CONTRACTOR'S INSURANCE CARD AND MAKE SURE YOU CHECK WITH THE INSURANCE COMPANY TO SEE IF HE STILL HAS INSURANCE. ACTUAL WORK DONE FOUNDATION CUT FOR TWO WINDOWS (NOT SQUARELY CUT) TWO WINDOWS PUT INTO PLACE EGRESS WINDOW WELLS PARTIALLY DUG WINDOWS NOT, I REPEAT, NOT SEALED CEMENT FROM FOUNDATION BURIED IN WINDOW WELL METAL WELL FRAME NOT SQUARED TO BUILDING FOUNDATION METAL WELL FRAME IS MISSING RUBBER GASKET THAT CAME WITH THE METAL FRAMES INSIDE TRIM IS NOT SQUARE AND IS WARPED AND CRACKING HOLES LEFT UNDER AND AROUND FRAME INSIDE THE HOME OWNER'S SONS LEFT POP CANS AND GARBAGE IN YARD ROCKS/PIECES OF CEMENT LEFT IN YARD NEGLECT TO HONOR LABOR WARRANTY AND TO EVEN COMPLETE THE WORK AFTER OUR HAVING PAID MR. KRIEG IN FULL.
