Description of Work: I met with Mr. Christian, a representative of Protection One. I liked what he pitched to me and so we agreed that we would meet on Sunday, December 9th to complete the contract. We did met and signed the contracts. Mr. Christian told me that he would call me on Monday (12/10) to schedule an install date. He never did. In fact, I called him on Monday and left a message that I wanted the system install on Saturday, December 15th. It is now December 13th and as I write this, I still have not heard from Mr. Christian. What concerns me is that I had a three-day window to cancel the contract. Since I have not heard from Mr. Christian, I am now very leary and uncomfortable. I also don't want to get hit with any "additional" fees beyond what he and I discussed when the contract was completed. I've called the Oak Brook office on Wednesday and was told that I had to contact Mr. Christian directly. I've been trying and still, no word from him. What do you all suggest that I do now???

+ -1 moreTHEY HAVE ALWAYS BEEN SUPER WHEN IT COMES TO CALLING RIGHT AWAY WHEN THE ALARM GOES OFF, BUT WHEN I CALLED THEM FOR THE REPAIR IT TOOK A WEEK FOR THEM TO SHOW UP.
Description of Work: THEY CHANGED THE BATTERY IN MY WALL UNIT.

+ -1 morePROTECTION ONE WAS ONE OF FIVE ALARM COMPANIES I CONTACTED FOR ESTIMATES BEFORE ULTIMATELY SELECTING KEYTH SECURITY. PROTECTION ONE'S SALESMAN HAD A GOOD KNOWLEDGE OF SECURITY AND ALARM ISSUES, ALTHOUGH HE WASN'T COMPLETELY ABLE TO GIVE ME PRICES FOR ADD-ONS LIKE A PANIC BUTTON. THE BIG SELLING POINT FOR PROTECTION ONE IS THEIR CELLULAR BACKUP, WHICH PROVIDES A LINK TO THEIR MONITORING STATION IF YOUR PHONE LINE IS CUT OR OTHERWISE INOPERABLE. THAT SERVICE IS ONLY AN ADDITIONAL $4 PER MONTH (ADT CHARGES APPROXIMATELY $15 FOR A CELLULAR BACKUP), BUT I ELECTED TO GO WITH KEYTH BECAUSE THEY INSTALL EQUIPMENT THAT YOU ACTUALLY OWN (INSTEAD OF LEASING) AND THEY OFFER A RADIO BACKUP THAT (THEORETICALLY) WILL BE MORE RELIABLE IN A NATURAL DISASTER OR OTHER CATASTROPHIC EVENT THAN A CELLULAR DEVICE, A DEVICE WHICH, AFTER ALL, NEEDS WORKING CELL TOWERS TO OPERATE PROPERLY.
Description of Work: PROVIDED A DETAILED ESTIMATE FOR INSTALLING A WIRELESS ALARM SYSTEM IN MY THREE-BEDROOM WALKUP CONDO.

+ -1 moreON JULY 19, 2002, PROTECTION ONE SENT A REPRESENTATIVE TO MY CONDOMINIUM TO GIVE ME AN ESTIMATE FOR AN ALARM SYSTEM. I DECIDED TO HAVE THEM INSTALL AND MONITOR AN ALARM. I GAVE THEM A CHECK IN THE AMOUNT OF $162 (50 OF SYSTEM COST, THE REST TO BE PAID UPON INSTALLATION). THEY WERE TO INSTALL THE ALARM ON AUGUST 1. I TOOK A DAY OFF ON AUGUST 1 TO BE AT HOME WHILE THE ALARM WAS BEING INSTALLED. PROTECTION ONE NEVER SHOWED UP TO INSTALL THE ALARM. WHEN I SPOKE TO THEM ABOUT THIS THEY OFFERED NO EXPLANATION. I TOLD THEM THAT I WOULD NOT BE ABLE TO DO BUSINESS WITH THEM, SINCE I CONSIDERED DEPENDABILITY TO BE AN IMPORTANT QUALITY IN AN ALARM SERVICES COMPANY. I ASKED THAT THEY REFUND MY $162 SINCE THEY NEVER PERFORMED THE WORK THEY AGREED TO PERFORM. THE REPRESENTATIVE SAID THAT THEY WOULD RETURN MY MONEY. THIS WAS OVER A MONTH AGO AND I STILL HAVE NOT RECEIVED MY MONEY.
