KDM Contractors

Can't rate their work because I was never called back by them.

What the man did was fine,but the main thing I wanted him to do, he would not.He left after 5 hours. I had paid for $199.00 for six hours repair or remodeling TWICE total $398.00. Thought 2 men would come same day or 1 come another time. After repeated calls and emails, I learned KDM was no longer in business. I realize this expired long ago, but I have been trying to straighten this out for a long time. I am guessing I am not the only person who had a problem with this company.

Tom contacted me the day before to validate the address, discuss the work to be done and plan arrival time. The next day, Tom showed up right on time, got a walkthrough of the workspace, we again discussed the overall plan and then the options for what to work on that day. Tom got right to work on the list of tasks, worked consistently and made significant progress on this phase of my project. At the end of the day, Tom and I reviewed the work completed, the next phase (I will be scheduling Tom to come back for that day) and discussed the material he would be needing for the next visit. My only frustration with the process is back in April/May when I scheduled the work, I provided pictures, drawings and write-up of the project to KDM. For some reason, it was never discussed with me before Tom called and the information never got to Tom to prep him. In my case, it did not really matter that much as Tom picked up on the plans quickly and made significant progress toward my ultimate goal. - It was more of a slight frustration than impediment to getting the work done which is why I did not down grade the overall experience to a "B". I would say it was more of an "A-" As I indicated earlier, I will have them back for phase 2 of my project and, should I have other needs would likely hire them for those as well.

He did great work. Fixed two doors that wouldn't stay closed, installed a dimmer switch, trimmed branches that were touching the roof, repaired dripping faucet, fixed gap in storm door, repaired light fixture, reindtalled two loose bathroom tiles.

My experience was average. There was one technician here and he took the full time to do the work. The shelving units are fine.

Initially, they were responsive and came out quickly for an estimate. When they provided the estimate, the deal did not end up covering the costs. I had expected that the work would cost more. However, the cost was almost double and I felt that was outrageous. They said that the job would take three days in the estimate. Two men came for the work and they were punctual. One said it looked like a piece of cake and he could be done sooner. However, they finished the work in exactly the three days. They did a good job at cleaning up the house at the end of each day as well as taking care of our belongings. They said that all of the materials were included except for the paint. They later billed me for some supplies they had used for sanding. After they were finished with the job and left, I noticed that they didn’t do a good job with the work. There was a section of the wall that you could see was not painted over correctly. You could only see it in certain light and we did not notice it when they were still here. When I called them asking them to come back, he said the next time they were in the area, they would come by. I have never heard from them again.

Everything turned out well. They showed on time, cleaned up after themselves, and did a good job with the repairs.

Sent this Company two e-mails one through Angies website and one from their own website. No one ever contacted me back or replied to this day. Maybe they don't care or they have more work then they can handle?

The first service was okay. Our foundation is questionable so the work he did didn't last. Cracks in our walls came back thru his work to the product he used I guess wasn't strong enough or preventable. The second service putting in our laminate flooring was disappointing. Some of the pieces aren't lined up correctly, there were odd pieces cut and put into place that after the floor was done could use see the imperfections. Because our closet doors were taken down, areas that ended where the floor was vs the tile/foundation you could see the floor was jagged and uneven..not smooth to line up w/the next flooring. Lastly, I had a personal incident w/one of the workers. I was in the shower and he walked in my bathroom while I was taking a shower. He didn't immediately leave, he slowly backed up and shut the door. I thought it was my husband. When I confronted him he said he didn't see anything. The owner told him to shut up. I was furious and mad. I complained to my husband who was outside at the time. I told him what happened and then stayed upstairs the remainder of the day. The owner apologized, the worker did not to me. It was creepy, unprofessional and because of this incident and the imperfect work I prefer not to use this company ever again.

The project went smoothly from beginning to end. He is also the only contractor of many we interviewed who had a reasonably priced solution to fix issues regarding exposed pipes in an unheated space. He created a way to heat the space underneath the floor to keep the pipes warm at a very reasonable cost. Other contractors didn't have the ideas to fix the problem and those who did were completely over priced and out of our budget. I highly recommend KDM-they do amazing work!

We closed on our Schaumburg house in in August. The day after we moved in, there was a sewage flood in our basement. In cleaning up the flood, we uncovered severe mold damage in the basement. Due to attorney negotiations w/the seller, we finally decided to have the work completed ourselves. We met w/Ed Mcauley 3 times to discuss specifically what work we needed done. KDM was to replace drywall and framing as well as paint. We agreed to supply the mold remediation materials since Ed only wanted to use bleach and water on the mold affected areas. We confirmed a start date of 11/25. The Saturday before the start date, I called Ed to confirm b/c I hadn't heard from him. He said his mother had recently passed and he had to go out of town. He said Kent would be there on 11/25 w/a crew to do the job. When Kent arrived, he assessed what we needed done and said that the estimate was incorrect. He said we needed additional dry wall (much more) and the estimate would need to be adjusted. We met w/Ed 3 times and were very clear what we wanted. Kent apologized and said he'd address w/Ed. We cancelled the contract and KDM refunded our deposit.

Tom at KDM does awesome work. We bought the Angie's List Big Deal specifically because of past positive experiences with Tom. He has very good attention to detail and we plan to use him again in the future.

The only problem we had was with initial scheduling. I emailed a couple of questions to the company, and next thing I knew a guy was on our front stoop in the middle of a blizzard! We had never scheduled him but he was sent out on an awful day. We had to send him away but KDM took responsibility for the mistake without arguing. Then I had a few unreturned phone calls because I was trying to reach a specific person. When I quit trying to reach that one guy, and instead talked to the person who answered the phone, then I got the rest of my questions answered and scheduled the work. Once scheduled, the worker showed up exactly on time, was highly professional, and did an excellent job. We were very pleased.

This was a follow up call to KDM from my initial contact in November. Since then that worker has left company so I asked if they could send another person out to re-quote due to weather being better. 3/30/14 showed that worker all projects I needed done. Gave each one a priority number in the order I needed worked on. Leaking gutter causing possible drywall damage on the inside of my home was top on my list. After 1 week, I contacted KDM again to inquire about estimate. Was told that he had an family emergency and just got back in town.(same reason as the worker from November) That's understandable but it would seem that if a company expects to keep a good reputation on a site such as this one, it might be a necessity to have all paperwork, quotes, info taken back to the office so that the owner, secretary, etc can follow up. Left a message at the office, got a call from Kent. He ensured that my follow-up would be done. 4/9/14, 4/10/14 Paul did send a text copy of quote and said he'd email it later. I then asked if he could just send quote for the gutter repairs that I needed immediately looked at. 4/12/14 I hadn't received an email yet so I sent another text. No reply yet. Angie's List and many others may ask why I don't just move on and pick another vendor off the list....#1 reason-I am a divorced mom who just bought my 1st home, paid my fee to join this site and depended on other reviews to pick a reliable contractor #2 reason- there's ALOT going on in society and it's a little nervewrecking to keep inviting strangers to your home to explain the same thing repeatedly to. #3, I'm also a small business owner so I try to support others who might just need better organization or communication ANGIE'S LIST PLEASE HELP!

KDM Contractors were supposed to come and do some things in our home before a Christmas gathering. We especially wanted them to fix a barrister on a staircase so people could have support when using the stairs. They were supposed to come out on December 19th, but we had an emergency and had to change it to December 24th. They never showed up on December 24th and didn't call or anything. It was a disaster. They claimed they called, but they didn't. They called after Christmas and offered to come out then, but we didn't want them to. We finally relented and they came out sometime in February to do the job. But when they came and did the job, he was outstanding. I was just disappointed that we couldn't have the work done before Christmas, because I had my family here, with people of all ages, and the staircase wasn't safe. They did an outstanding job.

Contractor arrived on time, was friendly and we are consulting with this contractor for future projects.

Arrived on time, very pleasant and professional. Did a good job with the variety of small projects we had set up for him. Would absolutely use them again.

He was able to make use of materials we had onsite to close up the holes we knew about. A day or two after he finished we discovered we had a cat in the basement which was not ours. The cats only visit us sometimes. Once the snow goes away, we will close up the opening on the outside. We don't know if the cats opened up what was sealed or had another way in.

He did a beautiful job. He was so professional and knew everything. I love the way the bathroom looks now. I would use KDM Contractors again and will ask for Tom for every project I have. Thank you Tom and KDM

Ken showed up right on time. We explained the 2 things that we really needed done. He went right to work. Made sure that he used covers,so as to not ruin floors,explained why we needed the extra part for the pipes. Lucky he had the part on his truck that stopped that. At first,they didn't look right,but he adjusted them to our satisfaction,so that they are looking good & working. He was willing to listen to us & did everything possible to meet the high degree of doing great work. I thank him for coming out so close to Christmas & you could tell that he likes the work that he does. He answered questions for us about future work that we need done, & I would use him & his company again.

He was punctual. He performed all the services I asked to have done. I would definitely use this company again. Hopefully soon since they are quoting another job for me.

Friendly. Answered many questions. Explained problems when found. Wish I had a few more small jobs to make better use of Paul's time, but I will call them again for estimate on larger jobs.

Great job! Very professional, and top notch quality work. All our repair and miscellaneous items were addressed exactly as we needed them. Made a quick trip to the local home depot, and everything was taken care of. Would definitely recommend and use again.

Their service was very good. They were on time, in fact a little bit early, very thorough with their work and they cleaned up after themselves very well. They were also very knowledgeable and they completed everything in a very timely manner. I was impressed by the number of jobs they completed in the time allotted. They came out probably around the middle of September and I didn't spend anything extra.

The service went well. The guy was punctual, he was on time, he asked questions about what we needed done, and he got it completed in the time that he we purchased on the big deal. It went very well. The pricing was good for what they had to do.
