Steve responded the same that day I called. I texted pictures of our "bad" outlets and switches to him so that he knew exactly what kind of parts were needed for the job. I left a "to do" list for him of things to check out. Not only was he responsive initially, he followed up both the afternoon and the evening that the work was done to ensure I was satisfied! NEVER in my experience as a homeowner have I encountered a service professional with such OUTSTANDING follow-up skills. Will be certain to use this firm again and will recommend this firm to anyone who asks for advice for an electrician!
Description of Work: We had a few electrical outlets that were not working and needed to be changed out. We also wanted to find out if we had enough "juice" to convert a gas range to an electric range to allow a family member on oxygen to continue her hobby: cooking & baking.

Because the old light socket had sparked and popped when I tried to use it, I called EMF in a bit of a panic. I explained my safety concerns and also expressed my lack of knowledge of the electrical system in my house. When Steve came, he took the time to show me how the electric box and circuit breakers worked in case of any future problems. I will definitely feel confident and comfortable calling EMF for any future needs. Highly recommend.

Steve is a real gentleman, and a very knowledgeable electrician. He worked hard while he was here, was very fair in the time he billed, and his hourly rates are very competitive. He was flexible in working with us as our project evolved over time. He answered all our questions, and then some, about the repairs that were needed. Our next round of electrical work will be going to him directly, without even bothering with competitive quotes. This was our first experience with Steve, and EMF, but it won't be the last
Description of Work: Replaced existing outlets with GFI, installed updated switches, repaired non-working outlets and fixtures.

Steve arrived on time and ran wiring up from the basement through the wall behind the firplace. This was a very difficult job and it looks very professional. All wires are now hidden just the way we wanted. The best part was Steve charged us a full $100 less than his original quote. We could not be more please I will defiantly be calling Steve for any future projects.

Steve came out to learn what work I wanted to have completed. He returned a few days later to perform the work. He was on time. He confirmed with me how I wanted the lighting unit to be wired. Once he completed the first job he immediately began the second job which was adding two outlets. He confirmed the direction and placement of the outlets. He cleaned up after he completed his work. All of his work was performed to my satisfaction.
Description of Work: Steve rewired the bathroom light/fan/heater so that the light and fan were on one switch and the heater on another. He also converted a two outlet to a four outlet in the bathroom.

My basement lights were flickering and after my own investigation I discovered an electrical box buried in the basement ceiling. Wire nut was melting due to overheating of copper to aluminum connections. I called EMF electric based on Angie?s list reviews. Steve was able to make things safe for the day, then followed up and performed the new circuit installation. He worked with me to plan the removal of additional aluminum circuits and addition of new sub-panel and new garage circuits. Steve submitted the plan and got the permit. Steve was able to accommodate my schedule since I was doing the drywall removal myself. Previous home owner had done some work incorrectly at the service panel. Steve pointed these items out and made corrections to bring safety items up to code. Steve is very professional and great to work with. We will be using EMF Electric again for additional basement circuits.
Description of Work: We have been using EMF Electric over the past year to re-wire and add a number of circuits. The work involved installing a new sub-panel, new conduit runs, moving of existing circuits to the new sub-panel, and removal of old aluminum wires.

I called Steve, at EMF Electric, and left a message. He called me back, within two hours. I told him what I wanted done, and he scheduled it for the next week. He told me how much it was going to cost, and I was fine with the price. We have used Steve in the past, for electrical work in our house, and he does an excellent job! On the day of service, Steve arrived on time, and he did a great job, as usual!! He replaced a broken light/fan in our bathroom, with a new light/fan, that we had already purchased. In our other bathroom, Steve replaced 2 old pendant lights, with 2 new blown glass pendant lights. They look amazing!! We were very happy and satisfied with the outcome! We will use Steve, at EMF Electric, again for future electrical needs. Thank you very much, Steve, for making our home look better, and for giving us peace of mind, that our electrical work is done professionally.
Description of Work: Steve changed out two pendant lights, with two new ones. He changed out an old, broken bath light/exhaust fan, with a new one.

He is a very nice guy. We had another repair and we asked him to come to finish it. We had put our house on the market and the electrical box that we had not from a reputable company, and so the inspector did not approve it. He came in the afternoon to take a look at it and then came the next day and changed the box. He charged us an hourly charge. I called in a couple and they wanted to charge to look at it, but he just came and looked at it and then he charged when he came to do the work. He also evaluated our wiring for free in our basement.

Steve found that two of the items listed by the home inspector were incorrect. For example, the inspector said that there was no main disconnect at the breaker panel, and a new sub-panel installation might be required. Steve explained that since the breaker panel was more than 5' from the meter location, the main disconnect should be outside at the meter, and there it was! A less than honest electrician might have agreed with the inspector, and charged me for a sub-panel installation. Steve was totally ethical, showed me were the main disconnect was located, and saved me the cost of a pretty expensive job. Also, the inspector said that a GFI outlet was miswired. Steve tested it, and it was wired correctly. Two other outlets did need to be changed out, and Steve took care of it quickly and efficiently. And, he offered to come to my home on Saturday morning because he knew I was trying to get these items completed quickly. Extremely professional, prompt, and friendly! Highly recommended!!

One of the good things that EMF Electric did was one of out lights was broken and the electrician pointed it to us. I ran back to the Home Depot to get a new on while he was installing the lights ad while I was in Home Depot there were some screws missing and he called me on my cellphone. It was an unusual situation but it was very positive.

Tech arrived exactly at the scheduled time. He changed into dry shoes as it was raining. After opening up the drywall, discovered both a horizontal and vertical plumbing vent pipes prohibited placing the outlet where it would line up with the other outlets above the counter. He explained several options and their compliance with codes as well as cost estimates. Agreed to reasemble the outlet and leave as is until I could discuss options with my spouse that evening. We decided to leave the outlet in the orginal location. He cleaned up thourghly and only charged for his hour of labor.

One of our original smoke detectors from 1997 went off when we were cooking. My husband disconnected it and 3 others. He called Steve @ EMF because he had done work for us in the past. We were told to buy all new smoke detectors - 3 smoke & carbon monoxide detectors to be installed on all three floors and 4 smoke detectors for the rest of the house. We did have a carbon monoxide detector on one of the floors but Steve said it was probably outdated. Carbon monoxide detectors need to be on all 3 floors. We took his advice and are very satisfied with his safety recommendations and his work.
Description of Work: Steve installed new smoke and carbon monoxide detectors that are hard wired. He also connected the wiring for our new garage door opener. He arrived on time, was very professional & courteous. The quote was provided to us before he arrived and it is what we paid. He is an excellent electrician and is the professional we call for any electrical work.

I was under pressure to get ground fault circuit interupters installed per a buyer request when I was selling my Oak Brook house. The whole experience with EMF was very positive. Quality of work excellent, fair price, responsive. I highly recommend them for electrical work.
Description of Work: In the process of selling my Oak Brook house an inspector for the buyer recommended ground fault circuit interupters in the kitchen, garage, etc. Electrical codes had changed since the house was built. Most of these were simple installations that I could do myself. However, the kitchen circuitry was very complicated and I had to call in a professional electrician. The EMF electrician was knowledgeable, professional and knew exactly what needed to be done. He provided a quotation which I thought was fair pricing for what had to be done. The next day the electrician spent hours doing the complicated job. I would not hesitate to use EMF again. A very good experience. Dennis

Steve is a very dedicated ,polite person to talk too. After the job was finished he and my wife and I talked about future projects and he gave us several ideas to think over.
Description of Work: Steve returned my call within fifteen minutes and I gave him a brief description of the work to be done. He arrived the following day at the time stated and began analyzing the problem which was a kitchen ceiling fixture. He fixed it immediately. He also replaced ten wall outlets and discovered a safety issue, which he brought to my attention, and explained how he could correct it and did so. We took the drywall off our garage walls to find rusty electrical conduit. I didn't know if it needed replacing or not so I called Steve at EMF. He told me when he could come out and I was surprised he could come out so quickly because it was the 4th of July week. He was working another job on the 4th and said he could come on the 5th. The miserable heat slowed his job down but he called plenty early on the 5th to say he would have to come on the 6th. That was no problem! I appreciated the call and he was very professional! He came out on the 6th - called 1st to let me know when - looked at the job and told me everything was fine and i didn't need to replace anything. He explained the rust was surface and the conduit and wiring were just fine. He didn't charge me. I told him to charge me for a service call but he refused. Very honest and professional!! I would highly recommend!!
Description of Work: I didn't know if I needed an electrician or not. I called and talked to Steve, he said he would come out and look at it and if I didn't need an electrician he wouldn't charge me. Well turns out we did't need to replace anything and he didn't charge me. I told him he should charge something for driving over in this killer heat but he refused!! Very honest and professional! I would highly recommend!!!

Steve was very responsive. I sent an info request to EMF (Steve) via Angies List and I had a response very quickly from Steve with questions about my project. He then set up a time to come to my home to see what we were thinking of doing --- which was put in 2 junction boxes along with dual motion sensor flood lights for our backyard. Steve was very helpful, friendly, responsive and right on time. I asked him to text me the morning of the day he was scheduled to come out in the afternoon to let me know approx what time he would be at my house. He text me back stating it was looking like 3pm and he showed up exactly at 3pm. He was very quick to respond whether it be phone, email or text. This shows professionalism and I value this in a company. We haven't decided at this point if we are going to move forward with this project but if we do, Steve is likely who we will choose. I imagine we'll have other electrical needs in the future that we would certainly choose him for as well.
Description of Work: I received a quote from Steve. He came to my home to better quote the project. We have not decided yet to do the work (we are only in the planning stages).

I absolutely swear by Steve! This is the second time I've had EMF do work for me since the first of the year. I love that A) he remembers my name, B) he returns my call promptly and C) they respect our time, family and property. We bought a ceiling fan for our front bedroom last year and never got around to putting it in. Wire hiders don't go over too well with me, and I wanted the job done right. I called Steve on a Friday and first thing Monday morning he and Joe were here on time to do the work. They used shoe covers to keep our carpets clean and were nice to our 2 guard dogs. They were precise in measuring out the room's center before cutting a hole and made sure the wiring went in the way it should. After all was said and done, the fan wasn't working properly due to a manufacturing flaw. Steve offered to take it down for me or to try to troubleshoot it further. He managed to fix it, saving us tons of time and frustration in returning and replacing a ceiling fan ourselves. I was pleasantly surprised when they vacuumed up the bedroom and upstairs hallway after they finished the job. While $500 seems like a lot to some people, and I know quoted averages from other electricians might be around $250-$300, I consider the amount of troubleshooting he had to do to fix the fan was worth $200+ in of itself, since we would have spent more than one day trying to find a replacement fan and an entire day trying to re-install it ourselves. He truly saved the day! This is the second time I've used EMF and they are now firmly in my speed dial for trustworthy & high-quality "go-to" service at reasonable pricing.

I AM IN LOVE WITH THIS ELECTRICIAN!!! Just don't tell my husband! LOL. After waiting several weeks for Sound Construction to be able to squeeze my project in(they had a Big Deal going and were very busy), I contacted EMF. Steve called me back within minutes and asked me several in-depth questions about the job before scheduling it for the following morning. I traded several text messages and photos with him about the area in question and the actual plug for the treadmill. He wanted to know the make, serial number and model of the treadmill so he could do some research on it to make sure he got the correct parts and did the hook-up properly. He was on-time the following morning and just so darn nice! Not the fakey, kissing-the-customer's-backside nice, either. He is a genuinely respectful, detail-oriented person whose thoroughness is so greatly appreciated by someone who has had some seriously bad experiences with contractors in the past. He listened attentively to what I wanted done, unlike other contractors who have completely disregarded both my husband and myself without explanation. He did the job efficiently and effectively. I then asked him if he had time to look at a ceiling fan 3 way switch that I had wired myself that wasn't working correctly and had some odd-colored wires. He had no problem squeezing the extra work in, informed me that our builder used some wires that were not typical of new residential construction, and fixed the problem. If only every contractor was as consciencious, thorough, efficient and reasonable as Steve! I plan on having him come out again soon to put in a ceiling fan and do some other work around my home. Am nominating him for the Happiness Award!
Description of Work: Converted a basement electrical outlet to accommodate a commercial, higher voltage, treadmill. Upgraded the electrical panel for the new outlet. Inspected and corrected 3 way switch wiring to ceiling fan. Inspected electrical job that was done questionably by Sears subcontractor.

Since it wasn't an emergency, i was able to wait to wait until he was able to do my job. This is a small business owner so he can get backed up with jobs. I have had such bad experiences in the past with some contractors that i was willing to wait because of his rating and coments i saw on angie's list. I was very, very happy with him. My job was small but he was honest about his pricing and kept me informed about when he could get to my job. We talked about some other work I'm interested in doing at a later date and he went into exactly what it involved and the basic cost. He also offered to fix a minor problem while we were talking in general about electrical issues.

Steve was very responsive to our urgent call. It was extremely hot and we only had a small window of time for the work to be done. Steve was great communicating what was needed to be done and very efficient with their time and effort to come in on our budget. The age of the house presented some problems and they certainly met the challenge with good spirits! Anyone who watches HGTV and Holmes on Homes Inspections, could imagine that E*M*F Electric would be chosen for his team!

About a month ago, there was a robbery 2 doors down from our house. We live in an area where there are no city lights on the street. It is very dark in our neighborhood. We have a post light in the front of our house, but it hadn't worked in years. We also had flood lights on the back corners of our house, but they weren't motion detectors, and they didn't work anymore.. We also had lights in our basement that weren't coming on when we turned on the switch. A few days after this break-in, we called Steve at EMF Electric. We told Steve that we needed some electrical work done at our house. Steve came to our house within 2 days of our call, and gave us an estimate of $875.00 to perform 5 electrical and lighting jobs in, and outside, our home. He ordered the parts he needed, and came back the next week, with one of his employees, to do the quoted work. Our house was built in 1963. Steve and his employee, first inspected the wiring in the basement for the post light in our front yard. They piped in the sensor wires to the basement junction box, then installed a new post light in our front yard, that we had purchased ourselves. The post light comes on when it gets dark outside. It works great and really lights up the front of our house! Next, Steve and his employee installed new motion detector lights in place of the old flood lights, that worked by a switch, on the back of our house. We had also purchased the motion detector lights ourselves. The motion detector lights work fantastic! We don't have to turn them on, like we did the old flood lights. Our basement lights weren't coming on when we turned on the switch. We have 6 rectangular lights in our basement that use 2 florescent bulbs each. They are supposed to turn on all at once when we flipped the switch, however, the lights were malfunctioning. One or two lights would come on, but not the others, or sometimes they would all come on, but not very often. When he came to give us a quote, Steve determined that we needed 6 new ballast for the 6 lights in the basement. The next week, Steve and his employee replaced the 6 ballast. This completely fixed the problem with our lights. Now, when we flip the switch, all lights come on every time! From the beginning to the end of our projects, Steve and his employee were courteous and professional and respectful. They were punctual and answered all of our questions. They cleaned up after themselves and stacked the minimal amount of garbage next to our garbage cans. Steve fixed all of our problems. We couldn't be more pleased with the outcome! We have some electrical and lighting projects we want to tackle in the future. We will definitely hire Steve, from EMF Electric again! Thanks Steve, I feel much safer in my home because of you and your excellent work!

Lastly, they replaced 6 old ballast with 6 new ballast in the basement. Steve quoted us a price of $875. When he was done with the job, he charged us only $750.
