BLR ARCHITECTS

When we bought this 2-flat we had big ideas of how we wanted to renovate the back of the building and enlarge the kitchens on both floors. Brett and Sean came out to visit us within a few days of our initial call to them, and we were very impressed with their knowledge of local codes as well as the great ideas they had for us. They provided a thoroughly detailed proposal within a few days of the visit and we felt confident they would do a great job working up the plans. In the end, though, we realized our budget wasn't going to allow for quite as much work as we had hoped, and we were forced to downsize the project to the point where full blueprints weren't necessary. Had our budget been greater we most definitely would have chosen BLR as our architects.

WE HIRED BLR BECAUSE WE HAD A GENERAL IDEA OF WHAT WE WANTED, BUT WERE LOOKING FOR SOME FRESH IDEAS, AND BRET GAVE US THE IMPRESSION THAT HE COULD GIVE US SOMETHING A LITTLE OUT OF THE ORDINARY. WE WERE DISAPPOINTED BY THIS. THE DESIGNS THAT HIS DESIGNER CAME BACK WITH WERE VERY UNINSPIRED. I ENDED UP DOING A LOT OF THE DESIGN AND GIVING IT TO THEM TO DRAW. I WAS ALSO UNHAPPY THAT WE ENDED UP WITH A SERIOUS SPACE PROBLEM BECAUSE THEY DREW OUR BASEMENT WINDOWS 16 INCHES AWAY FROM WHERE THEY ACTUALLY WERE. LUCKILY, I CAUGHT THIS AS I WAS TALKING TO CONCRETE COMPANIES, OR IT COULD HAVE COST A LOT OF MONEY TO FIX. I CAUGHT A COUPLE OF OTHER PROBLEMS IN THE "FINAL" CONSTRUCTION DRAWINGS THAT I THINK THEY SHOULD HAVE FOUND BEFORE I EVER SAW THEM. THE PEOPLE I DEALT WITH WERE VERY PLEASANT TO DEAL WITH AND HELPFUL WHEN I HAD QUESTIONS. I MIGHT USE THEM IF I HAD A VERY STRAIGHTFORWARD REMODEL.
