He knew right away what the problem was, and was very nice, efficient and punctual. He also cleaned it out and moved it so the condensor and the area underneath could be cleaned.

Art tried very hard to repair the old dishwasher. We were very satisfied with the effort. The installation of the new dishwasher was done at half the cost the store quoted for installation. We have used American Benchmark before and we will use them again.
Description of Work: Art tried to repair our 15 year old dishwasher,didn't work. Art said that he thought a new pump would do the job but it didn't. Art charged us $60.00 even though he was at our house several hours. We decided to buy a new dishwasher. Art said he would install the new dishwasher for $65.00 and take the old one away.

From beginning to end I was very pleased with the service. My phone call was answered quickly and the initial service appointment set up in a timely manner with a two-hour window. Art arrived within the time specified and diagnosed the problem with my oven quickly, but unfortunately did not have the part to repair it on hand. He called the office to have it special ordered, and we set up another appointment. Art told me since it was a special order part, I would have to pre-pay, but since this company has a gold star rating with Angie's List, I was not worried that he would not return. On the day of the second call, Art was running a little bit late, but was considerate enough to call me ahead of time to inform me that he was still intending to come, and gave me an estimated time for his arrival. When he arrived, he apologized for the delay, and went straight to work on my stove. He completed the repair within 30 minutes, and to my surprise, there was no additional charge! Art was personable, knowledgeable, efficient and friendly. Even my cat liked him! Overall, I was very pleased with Art's service as well as the price, especially since my neighbor had been previously been charged almost twice as much from the manufacturer's repairman! Kudos to Art and American Benchmark!
Description of Work: Diagnosed a problem with my GE oven, and subsequently replaced a bad thermostat on the unit.

I called a few companies from AL, but this one was the only one who could come when I needed them. Art came out and after looking for a few minutes, he said we needed a new heat coil and he gave me a price. It was a little more than I wanted to spend, but it wasn't that far off and I needed my dryer. It took him 20 minutes to fix it and it has been great ever since. Art was very nice to work with.

Fridge not cooling properly. Found on Angies list. Asked about flexibilty in scheduling since I had to go to work. Offered 7am, which pleasantly surprised me. Usually scheduling is a problem for working families. Arrived promptly when he promised, and quickly diagnosed the problem. Replaced computer board and defrosted freezer. He also helped to fix fridge drawers that werent closing properly. My wife was thrilled to finally have them closing like they should again!! Excellent service, I would definately recommend.

The price that I paid for the last repair job was for the parts as well as for the labor. I have used their services about 2 or 3 times in the past. The person who comes out to get the work done is very good. In case if he is working on a major job and in between if a smaller job comes up, then he is very good about adjusting his schedule to get the work done. He provides the old style kind of personal service if you want. I have got his name from all the people who have used his services, and so I know that he has a good reputation. The labor rates that he charges is very competitive and not outstanding for the work that he performs and the time he takes to get the work done. The quality of his work has been good. He also repaired a dryer for me which another company never understood as to what was wrong with it. So, he came out to fix it and it has been a year and a half now. I was very pleased with his work. He sometimes does things which the younger guys can't, as he has been doing this for about 30 years now. He is good at all trades when it comes to appliance repair. He is very good and excellent when it comes to his responsiveness. He is very good about getting back to you and calls back within a day after you contact him. He is always on time and always there to help you. I am impressed with his punctuality too. If he says that he is going to be there at eight, then he makes sure that he is there at eight. He is a very amicable person and talks with you. He is a nice guy and is very personable as well.
Description of Work: I use the services of American Benchmark for appliance repair and the last repair job that they did was in July of 2009 to fix the control panel for the dish washer.

Great! Called on Friday, Art came Saturday morning at 10:15 for a 10:00-12:00 service call. Spent an hour with the machine. I tossed in a load of laundry as soon as he left and it worked great.

Our dryer stopped heating the clothes. It took at least 2 hours to dry a load of clothes because it was cold air. Also, the dial on the dryer did not move to the automatic shut off. Our Matag warranty had expired, so we were on our own to find a repair man. I checked the list for a repair service close to our house and found American Benchmark in Lisle. Art called back within a hour or so and offered to come the next day. I asked him to come the following day instead as it was best for us. He said that would be fine. My husband was here when he came. He came at the time he said he would. He was quick and professional. Our dryer is working fine now. And he gave us a one year warranty on his work. We would use him again!
Description of Work: He repaired our Amana/Maytag gas dryer. I called on Monday and he said he could come out the next day. I asked him to come on the following day as that was better for us. He agreed to our schedule. He said he would arrive between 10:00 AM and Noon and he did. He knew exactly what was wrong with the dryer. He replaced the heating element and gave us a good explanation as to why it wasn't working and why it would now work. He also gave us a one year warranty on his work. He was friendly and professional. We would definitely call on him again!

It went very well. I called the service because our oven wasn't heating. American Benchmark sent a service person two days later. He determined the problem was the electronic ignition, replaced the ignition, cleaned up after himself, told me we had a good oven, which should now be working well, and left.

Good. If I had known they wouldn't work with Maytag directly then I would not have called them in the first place. It would have saved me $60.
Description of Work: Our refrigerator's compressor that was still under warranty failed. The diagnosis was done quickly, but they said they do not work directly with Maytag and asked us to pay them (the rough estimate on the compressor was at least $600) and then we can get the reimbursement from Maytag. I did not accept this offer and we ended up calling Abt in Northbrook who changed the compressor and billed it directly to Maytag.

In that case the manufacturer usually has control over how the contractor business is operated. Also our warranties are not honored by manufacturers and we did not make the huge profit that you paid for when you purchased your appliance.Many of our customers have been told that warranty repairs have to be by the manufacturer more often than not. In short our warranty is our warranty, and their warranty is their warranty.we always look for cooperation from everyone in our industry to get you the best possible service but past experiences tell us this is not always possible. Another company was unable to fix our frig. Art came out and was able to clearly demonstrate exactly what was wrong. He could not fix it on the spot but made arrangements for the next day to fix. He came back the next day with the right materials and fixed it no problem. He charged exactly what what quoted, no "service fee" for just coming to the house. Very honest, reliable, and competent.
Description of Work: Art was called when another company (Central Dupage Appliance) could not fix our frig. Art quickly figured it out, made the arrangement to fix it the next day, and did so quickly and completely. Art is great and because of our experience we have called him back twice. Every time with a good result.

It was about 9:30pm June 19th that I noticed my refrigerator wasn't cool, but the freezer was. I thought it might be the compressor, so I decided to look on Angie's list in the morning to get someone to look at it. I called Amer. Benchmark and talked to owner Art Taylor at 9:30am on June 20th, explaining I'd need someone soon. He said he would have service out to me by 3pm, and he did (he came out.) He was professional, fast, courteous, and told me it wasn't as bad as I thought, so he didn't have to charge me as much. I thanked him, and told him I was very glad since I have been unemployed for quite a while, I was worried this was going to set me back a lot.
Description of Work: Art replaced a broken door gasket on my refrigerator. It wasn't keeping it's cool!

Our clothes dryer appeared to be laboring over several days. We called American Benchmark whom we had used in the past. Art Taylor returned our call promptly and was able to come to the house the next day. Art spent about 1/2 hour testing the dryer but couldn't find any problem. Art didn't charge us anything because he said her didn't fix anything. We have used American Benchmark in the past and will definately use them again. Art is always pleasant and courteous.

The serviceman initially came in a couple of months ago to work on a fridge that didn t have some parts. He brought in those parts, and his pricing was reasonable. He was very accommodating about the scheduling. We got our appointment rescheduled due to a hailstorm, and he still showed up later in the day. On a second refrigerator, he was willing to work when I wanted him to. He came in early once on a Saturday because I couldn t be present during a regular working day.

AB sent someone out the next day, he took it apart and cleaned it up - as it turns out, my water temp was set too low to break down the food and detergent. He suggested some cleaning products and general maintenance. After a few runs, it was already getting better. I was guessing I'd have to pay $300 in parts and labor before he arrived (that's always the way it turns out for us!) , but when he was done it was only a $60 service fee. AB was polite and fast and less expensive than I thought they'd be. Thanks!
Description of Work: Dishwasher was not draining fully or breaking down food particles. I was worried that the pump would need replacing or some other high dollar fix!

My refrigerator was making funny noises and the milk registered 52 degrees. YUK.... Called on Friday morning and he was here the next day. He came in looked at the problem and told me what it was going to cost. Within 2 hours the problem was fixed. He had to defrost the freezer section and even cleaned up the water mess. He was very friendly and very helpful.

After checking Angie's List, I contacted American Benchmark the week before Christmas to look at both of my ovens. One oven did not heat and the other had broken door glass. I spoke with Art and arranged for him to come out on Dec 23 between 8 am and 10 am. He opened the malfunctioning oven, found the service pamphlet in the oven, read it over and told me I needed a new therm cutout and sensor. It would have to be special ordered and he could come back on Monday the 29th to replace these items, plus the broken glass in the other oven. He made a phone call from his cell phone right away and ordered the parts. Monday did not work for me, so we agreed on Tuesday the 30th. He asked for full payment in advance and I provided payment via my American Express credit card. I asked him to come at 8 am since I had company and wanted the work done early. He agreed to come at that time. Art called me at 9:30 on the 29th to tell me that the therm cutout and sensor had been delivered to the wrong place but that he did have the glass. He told me he could install the misplaced parts on Jan 5 between 8 am and 10 am. I told him I would rather he come one time to replace all the parts at once. He called before arriving on Jan 5 to say he was 10 minutes away and arrived 20 minutes later. Upon opening the box containing the glass, he said they sent him the wrong glass. I wondered why he didn't check to make sure he had the right part before coming out. That part was supposedly available to him on Dec 29----a week before he came to install it. At that point I was very upset. My husband pointed out to him that in two weeks he had not met any of the commitments he made regarding our repair. His apologized and said he would "take care of us," but made no effort to reduce the fee or otherwise compensate me for the inconveniences of waiting for him to "get it right". While he replaced the therm cutout and sensor, I searched online for the door glass and discovered it would be easy for me to replace the broken glass myself. When he finished, I told him I no longer wanted him to replace the glass and he agreed to refund $115.00 to cover the cost of the glass and installation. He said I should have the check by Wednesday, Jan 7. I received the check dated January 9 in the mail on January 10. The glass I ordered online came in 3 days. I plan to fix it myself for less than half the cost.
