Rob was extremely knowledgeable and determined the root cause and was able to determine the correct model to order parts. Repair was incredibly expensive and because there is no serial number on the stove, sterling would not warranty the work which is unfortunate.
Description of Work: I have an older model wolf stove that the previous homeowner removed the serial number for some reason making it difficult to find anyone to work on it. I’d had problems with the oven door locking for the self cleaning function, heating up properly and with one burner lighting. I’d had it worked on several times in the past but the repairs never lasted as none of the previous technicians could properly diagnose the problems.

Description of Work: I reached out to Sterling via their "contact us" page on their website asking for them to call me regarding repairs needed to my Wolf stove and vent hood. That was over 3 weeks ago and I have not received any response from them. I guess they don't need my business.

He did a great job. I paid the initial $120 service call fee. He didn't charge me for the 30 minutes of labor which I thought was very nice. He was very respectful, very cordial, he even put the little slippers on his feet when he came to the door to make sure he didn't leave anything as he walked.

Jeannie answered my call, took time listening to all descriptions, and gave me advice what she thought would solve the overheating gasket issue. She also walked me though additionally how to find helpful info on Subzero website. We followed her advice and in 12 hours, all issues were gone. Thanks Jeannie for her excellent customer service and professionalism. She solved the issues over the phone, and we didn't need to hire a technician this time, but we'll make sure to call them the next time we have an issue with any of our appliances.
Description of Work: JEANNIE WAS A GREAT HELP. SHE HELPED OVER THE PHONE AND HER ADVICE FIXED ALL ISSUES WITH MY OVERHEATING SUBZERO FRIDGE. NO CHARGE AS THEY DIDN'T NEED TO SEND US TECHNICIANS. WHAT A WONDERFUL AND PROFESSIONAL PEOPLE THEY ARE! We originally contacted the Subzero Showroom at the Merchandise Mart and they recommended to contact Sterling Service Group Inc. Apprently Sterling services all appliances in the Subzero/Wolf Showroom and "we let no one else touch our appliances in the showroom" was what the sales person told us. Good sign.

I can not speak highly enough about the service and professionalism of Sterling Services Group. They proved to me that they live up to their motto of "The Standard of Excellence" Eariler in 2015, I had service by Sterling on my Sub Zero refrigerator mechanicals. Not knowing that with Sub Zero side by side products the mechanicals for the frig and freezer are totally independent of one another, I was surprised and somewhat upset when recently my freezer stopped working. I assumed the rebuild completed earlier in the year would have prevented such. However, one of the most knowledge and professional technicians I have ever encountered, Trevor, educated my on our Sub Zero and its workings. Trevor and the excellent management at Sterling contacted Sub Zero to discuss my situation. And much to my delight, between the two superior organizations, they agreed to repair and replace my freezer needs under our warranty but with no additional labor charge due to what was really my misunderstanding of how my Sub Zero was built and worked. Regardless, in today's marketplace it is rare a company goes as far as they did to keep a customer happy. And happy I am. Trevor was timely, respectful and very skilled. He exceeded my tough and somewhat combative expectations. I would highly recommend Sterling and their services. I now see why they are one of the few Sub Zero Factory Certified and recommended Service groups. Thanks to them.

The price is a lot but considering it's a sub-zero which lasted for twenty years and this is the whole idea behind sub-zeroes--they last three times longer than most other appliances. So the repairs are expensive, they're always expensive, they're never going to be in line with everyone else. For what it was, it was fair.
Description of Work: We had not done through the service yet because the decision was if we're going to repair or replace. Sterling Service Group gave me an approximate cost for the refrigerator.

The technician was on time, polite and informative. After checking the vents, motor and fluid levels on the sub zero, he noticed that we had a Wolf range/oven unit and asked if we had any questions or concerns regarding the appliance. We asked questions about how to remove and clean the hood filters and he gave us a lot of helpful information. We would use this company again for any future Sub-zero/Wolf repairs.
Description of Work: We recently moved into a home with a sub-zero fridge and scheduled a preventative maintenance visit for the unit.

In October, 2013, our builtin Subzero refrigerator celebrated its 28th birthday! Despite its age, it was still working, but the compressor was weak. As a result, the freezer wasn't keeping food frozen. Other appliance service organizations had worked on the unit and recharged the refrigerant. However, this didn't solve the problem. It was clear that more extensive work was required. We contacted Sterling because they provide factory-certified service for Subzero. They came out within 2 days of our initial call and assessed the unit. They confirmed our suspicion that the compressor was fading. Our options were to repair this unit or get a new one. Sterling provided us with an estimate for the repair work. It was not cheap, but it was cheaper than the alternative (getting a new builtin unit). So we scheduled the work. On the day of the repair work, the Sterling technicians called to let us know they were on the way. After they arrived, they promptly began the work. It was obvious that they really knew what they were doing. In addition, they were willing to take the time to explain each step along the way and to answer any questions we had. The repair took around 4 hours. We were so impressed with the professionalism and knowledge/skill of the technicians. They were able to solve every problem they encountered along the way. We were also very pleased with the customer service representatives who schedule the work. They took the time to answer all of our questions. We are happy to report that our refrigerator and freezer now function perfectly, and will probably continue to function for a long time to come (based on how long the original equipment lasted). We will definiitely call Sterling again if we need any additional work done on the unit.
Description of Work: Sterling Services completely rehabbed our 28-year old Subzero refrigerator. They replaced the compressor and a number of other critical parts required to restore the refrigerator to functional status.

The woman who answered the phone, who was incredibly helpful, could have sent a service person out and collected a fee, rather than help a new customer over the phone. She told me where to look for the serial number, what the message on the panel meant and how to fix my problem. I'm so impressed. I plan to call any time I have an appliance problem.
Description of Work: Sterling Service was recommended by a friend. The Subzero refrigerator in the condo we moved into was not cooling. When I called the person who answered was incredibly nice and helpful and told me an obvious fix (if you have a Subzero and this is my first) and the problem was solved.

I went to the place I purchased my sub zero to get a quote for work to be done on my SubZero. After the quote estimate being over $1000.00 I decided to look elsewhere. I contacted Sterling and had someone come out within 24hrs of my call. They provided an estimate for work that was more than 50% less than my other quote and would include other services such as a vaccuming. Works was promptly completed and satisfactory.

Excellent experience with Sterling service. David A arrived on time (included a phone call notice) and determined the problem within 15 minutes. It was a leaking evaporator in the refrigerator section. David had the replacement part and equipment to do the repair right away. The way David took apart the Sub-Zero, cut out the evaporator, weld back the new part, filled the system with Freon was done professionally. You can tell David knows his stuff. I was very impressed. David help clean parts of the refrigerator while he tested his fix to insure it was working 100%. The output of the refrigerator evaporator dropped down to 18 degrees! The repair cost is not cheap. But watching how David worked around the Sub-Zero tells you he is a professional and had no second guessing on how to perform the work. From the time I said to do the repair, David went step by step to replace the evaporator without hesitation.
Description of Work: Sub-Zero 680 was displaying "vacuum condenser" message and the refrigerator was too warm. I vacuumed the condenser and problem was not fixed. The refrigerator was at 50 degrees when it suppose to be at 38 degrees.

Sterling Service Group was wonderful. They were extremely responsive to my call and had a technician out in a timely fashion. They would have been out sooner, but my schedule couldn't accommodate the promptness. The technician even called when he was on his way with a 30 minute lead time. I was very appreciative of that. The technician, Matt, was very knowledgeable and was able to diagnose the problem quickly. He answered all of my questions without hesitation. He was thorough and quick. The estimate was higher than the actual charge because parts were under warranty. Bonus! I would definitely use them again for any issues I may have with our Sub Zero fridge.

The service was prompt, professional, and went above and beyond what we originally called about. Beyond the repair, the technician took note of some warranty/recall items and has ordered parts for those to be replaced, and did a general "health check" of the entire system.
Description of Work: Light in the freezer of our Sub Zero stopped operating, and fan would run with the door open. After trying a few things directed by Sub Zero tech support over the phone, we determined it wasn't something that could be "reset". They sent Sterling Service out to take a look. Wally spent two minutes with the unit and diagnosed frost in the switch, and cleaned it out. He also pointed out that we could run the freezer at a higher temperature and get the same performance, checked all the filters, noticed cracking drawer handles that are under warranty (and ordered replacements), and changed out a defrost drip pan that is a redesign (under warranty). All of that, and charged us nothing. We will definitely look to Sterling should this fridge need any repair in the future!

Excellent service and Rick was great. Everything went as promised: phone calls received, arrival time and charges.. I had asked for the specific services in advance, but Rick brought a part to change the way the fan operated. The old Sub-Zero's were wired to have the fan run constantly. This is unnecessary and Rick re-wired it to run only when the condenser is on.

I explained what happened in the descripton of the services performed above. However, there a few things to note about the service I received from Sterling during this period of fixing the range. 1. The people anwering the phone were understanding, courteous and helpful, not in answering technical issues, but in understanding my frustration and knowing I needed some help fixing this expensive machine. 2. Professionalism is everywhere in the process. 3. Each service person, and Fred as mentioned above in particular, were competent and clear in investigating what was wrong. When one guy did not know the specifics about the Wolf Range in particular, he called in for expert assistance without hesitation. So I knew I was getting the right service on the problems encountered. 4. If I could wait a few days, I let them know when I called, but when I really needed help, they got someone out the same day several times ... or the next day. Since I clearly explained the issues, they knew if I needed someone and they made sure they were there, confirmed the day in advance and followed up on big issues. 5. I have used Wolf Ranges in my work, so I knew they usually perform well, so this was a dilemma for me. The one I received was a lemon. Now, after the professional and knowledgeable service people from Sterling, my lemon is lemon aid! I LOVE it and love cooking with my range. It took way too long, but Sterling made it this way. The Wolf people should really be happy because they have a happier customer all because Sterling made it so.
Description of Work: STERLING SERVICE GROUP 1150 ENSELL RD, LAKE ZURICH, IL 60047 847-738-9800 I purchased a Wolf Range, 36" gas freestanding, which turned out to have sooo many problems with it. A day after it was installed, the igniter started "clicking" in the middle of the night and we could not stop it except to unplug it and not use the range. All the issues started this second day after delivery and installation and continued over the next many months. I called a couple of service people and wanted my range usable right away. The only ones who said, let's find a way to get you someone right away was Sterling. I had a service person out the next day and my range was usable. There were more issues with the griddle grinding, the gas flaring up, and one thing after another. Sterling fixed each thing and/or ordered parts very often over the next six months. Finally, one of the servicemen, Fred, came in the last few times and was definitely an expert in Wolf. He clearly explained what options we had and what he could do and we tried them in steps finding the best solutions. Yes, I was ready to ship the Wolf back and get a Viking or Vulcan, but Fred explained that some of the parts from all three suppliers were from common Chinese suppliers and just sending mine back COULD mean I'd get another problem. Insteaad, he ordered the right parts; installed them and then it all worked beautifully. I had to call them back last month when the oven door was scratching the inside, and he had to come out again. He fixed it and said it happens with such heavy doors, and it could happen again. It just needs adjustment from time to time, which made a lot of sense. So I called Sterling after this and explained to them that it looks like they really fixed my problems and I was not going to be calling them so often. Fred was GREAT particularly since he explained what the issues were and I knew and felt confident it would be fixed properly. He really knows what he is doing.

The unit works I feel like I was ripped off but what can I do stay away from sub zero brand and if you can stay away from sterling until they charge a fair labor rate .I also found out that my unit holds less then 2 pounds of refrigerant and took around $12 in material to repair wow did I get screwed .
Description of Work: We have a sub zero pull out fridge and the unit stopped cooling we called sub zero and they told us that this is the only company that can service are unit .The repair man came over and looked at the unit and said it needed a new cooling coil and that the part was covered (im happy ) but the labor is not I said OK how much for labor and how long will it take to fix .He checked his truck for the part and said I have one and it will take 2 hours and will cost $600 .I said I thought you said the part was covered and he said it is that's for my labor !!!!!!!!!I was shocked but a new sub zero will cost me $8000 so six hundred it is .I can understand $150 per hour %) per hour to pay your tech and $100 per hour for profit and over head etc but $300 per hour is just crazy but they are the only authorized service company .

Response from Sterling Service Group Inc
Our Service Rate of $550 includes not only labor but Freon, Welding Supplies and the Government fee for the proper disposal of Freon. The Manufacturer is aware of our costs and we are in-line with other Sub-Zero Factory Authorized Service Companies. Our goal is to repair the appliance as quickly as possible and in this case we were able to repair the unit in one visit. Our Technician came prepared with any necessary parts needed for the repair. At the time of the Service call, which our records show was in September of 2009, we had been scheduling only 2 business days out for service.
