RENAISSANCE CONCRETE

We hired Mike Messina of Renaissance Concrete to install a decorative concrete floor in our interior sunroom. Mike started the job on January 23rd, 2014. Mike finished the floor on January 28th and was paid in full with a personal check. After completion, the floor was covered and uninterrupted until March 1st when I discovered the concrete floor had cracks that ran the length of the room in 4 consecutive areas. We concluded that Mike did not prep the under floor properly before installing concrete, which Mike agreed with, so he also agreed to pull out the whole floor and start over again from scratch. He scheduled to return in "a few days"... according to Mike. Saturday,March 15th he promised he would be back on Tues and Wednesday the 18-19th to finish. He did not show up or call, or answer text messages or phone calls. Mike responded back on Sat, Mar 22nd and said he was still waiting for supplies. Another promise on the 22nd to return on the following Tuesday the 18th. Mikes second attempt to install a concrete floor as promised started on March 28th. Said he would be back saturday the 29th to finish. No show again. Promised again to be there on the 31st. No show.. I called and sent text messages again April 1st. no response. Mike finally came back to finish the 2nd attempt on April 3rd. Mike finished sealing the floor and completing the 2nd attempt on Saturday, April 5th. I contacted Mike again Sunday, April 6th to tell him we let the sealer dry as he advised, and the floor looked absolutely horrible!! Even worse than the first time! There were cracks, sloppy concrete marks, drips everywhere including nearby walls and bricks on the fireplace. I would not want this floor in my basement or garage, let alone a main living area! Mike returned to inspect his work on Monday, Apr 7th and my wife and I along with Mike all agreed that this is not working out and Mike agreed that day to give us 70% of our money back after we agreed to pay him for his materials only. We were told he would have a check for us in "a couple of days" (on april 5th)...Here we are in the end of June and Mike is completely unresponsive. Will not answer calls, respond to texts, nothing! The few times I have been able to get a hold of him were from phone numbers he doesn't recognize, only to have him tell me he has no money and can't even feed his kids! He has even hung up in my face when I let him know its me calling.. Run from this deadbeat!! He is incompetent and does not know what he is doing!!! Worst experience ever and I wouldn't recommend him to my worst enemy..

I was given a quote by phone and references, which were area businesses where Renaissance had acid stained their floors. I visited the references and loved the work, so I chose Renaissance and was glad I did. The work takes several steps, and I was happy with each part of the process, especially the final product. I chose a rust color by the way.

After the concrete was damaged by a snow plow, I called to get it fixed. It took them 3 months to come out to give me an estimate. They finally showed up Memorial Day and gave me an estimate. I ok'd it with our condo board, and I never heard from him again.

THE WORK TURNED OUT VERY WELL. I AM STILL SOMEWHAT UNHAPPY THAT THEY WERE UNABLE TO STICK TO THEIR PROMISED TIME LINE (WE HAD TO CANCEL A PLANNED B.B.Q BECAUSE OUR YARD WAS STILL A CONSTRUCTION SITE IN JUNE), AND THAT THEY WE'RE UNRESPONSIVE, FOR A TIME, TO MY PHONE CALLS. HOWEVER, AFTER ANGIE'S LIST GOT INVOLVED, THE SITUATION IMPROVED QUITE A BIT. WE ARE VERY HAPPY WITH THE WORK, AND THEY TOOK CARE OF MANY SMALL EXTRAS WITHOUT ADDITIONAL COST.

MIKE WAS GOING TO REPLACE AN EXISTING CONCRETE FRONT PORCH WITH NEW STAMPED CONCRETE. WE HAD SEVERAL PEOPLE BID ON THE JOB. WE CHOSE MIKE NOT BECAUSE OF PRICE, HE WAS MIDDLE OF PACK, BUT BECAUSE HE SEEMED THE MOST RELIABLE. WE WENT AND PURCHASED THE PERMIT AND WERE ALL SET TO BEGIN, HE NEVER SHOWED UP. WE HAD TO CALL HIM SEVERAL TIMES. HE KEPT GIVING NEW DATES AND MISSED EACH ONE. AFTER TWO MONTHS I CANCELLED WITH HIM AND CHOSE A DIFFERENT SUPPLIER WITH A HIGHER ANGIE'S LIST RATING. I SHOULD HAVE USED THE RATINGS TO BEGIN WITH I WILL KNOW BETTER NEXT TIME!!

CAME OUT ON AUGUST 6TH TO BEGIN AND SAID THAT IT WOULD TAKE FOUR DAYS. THEY CAME OUT, REMOVED THE CONCRETE, POURED THE NEW STUFF, BUT THEY HAD NOT FINISHED. IT ALSO RAINED AND THEY AGREED THAT THE BACK PATIO AND STEP WOULD HAVE TO BE REMOVED AND REPLACED. THEY FINALLY CAME OUT ON SEPT 12TH UNANNOUNCED AND BROKE UP THE CONCRETE. NOW MY BACK PATIO IS DEMOLISHED, THERE IS MUCH WORK TO BE DONE, AND I HAVE PAID THEM $3000 OF THE $5600 TOTAL.

I CALLED THE OWNER AND AFTER LEAVING NUMEROUS MESSAGES, HE MADE AN APPT. TO COME TO MY HOUSE FOR AN ESTIMATE BUT NEVER SHOWED. VERY UNPROFESSIONAL AND IRRESPONSIBLE.

HE GAVE US A QUOTE IN THE FALL, AND SAID HE WOULD BE ABLE TO DO THE WORK IN THE SPRING. MIKE CALLED US BACK IN THE SPRING AND HONORED HIS QUOTE. THEY WERE A NICE CREW AND DID GREAT WORK. THEY ALSO WILLINGLY PICKED UP A SMALL JOB FOR OUR NEIGHBOR.
