Surprising to find this on here. This was one of the strangest projects we have ever worked on. We only did design work and the project was never built. The members hired us to design what was originally intended to be a $1,000,000 home. The fee was set up as a percentage of the estimated construction costs. They were continually updated on the estimated construction costs as the project ballooned well into the $2,500,000-3,000,000 range. The members never batted an eye at this and paid us promptly through the first 2/3 of the project. But I assume she hid this fact from her husband as he became very upset at the end stages of the design work once he found out the fees being paid and the project never moved forward. The husband actually threatened to sue us but his threat lasted only as long as it took for him to actually consult a lawyer to find out he had no basis to do so. It is one of the finest sets of construction documents we have ever put together with every joint in the stone facade planned to perfection, engineered mechanical systems and concrete floor systems. It was a highly unique project both technologically and in its construction systems requiring highly detailed drawings architecturally, structurally and mechanically. What they did pay us they paid largely in cash which was very strange in and of itself. We are stilled owed tens of thousands of dollars by this client that we will never recover because it is just not worth the bad Karma of forcing an unhappy person to pay what they owe for a project that will never be built. I don't know how they could possibly justify any of the grades they have submitted.
