The crew was quick, efficient and very clean; they even worked around our newly seeded yard! If I'd known getting a new roof was this painless, I would have done it two years ago.
Description of Work: Tear off of old asphalt shingles, new roof with architectural shingles and appropriate underlayment, vents, and lumber repair.

+ -1 morePete Ciraulo came out and gave a great estimate and seemed very knowledgeable and honest. Explained the whole process in great detail and how it would impact us. Once we chose them for the job, he gave an estimated time for the work to begin since they are dependent on weather in when they can work. He also did not want a deposit nor any payment until the work was completely done and we were satisfied. The workers came at 7:00 in the morning and worked almost 'til 6. They do not use nail guns to apply the new shingles, all the work was done by hand. The workers setup tarps to protect my landscaping, they cleaned up the site to almost the same as prior to the start of the job. Also, I had a lot of damage to the wood below the shingles and they had to replace a lot of it. This was done at no extra charge. Pete kept me updated on the progress of the job throughout the day and called afterwards to find out if I was happy. The house now looks so great and I am 100% satisfied with the job.
Description of Work: Complete tear-off of three layers of old roofing shingles, repair the roof decking where needed (and a lot ended up being needed to be replaced) and replaced with 25 year warranted shingles. Install four roof vents, as the existing house did not have any. Added new aluminum soffit, custom fabricated fascia and window cladding on front and rear dormers.

+ -1 moreExcellent. I own a Chicago bungalow in a near western suburb and wanted a roofer that was 1) in the area and 2) familiar with roofing bungalows. Pete returned my call within 24 hours to set up a meeting. He came out and met with me for about 1 hour, explaining the existing problems and the process of installing the new roof. In addition, he gave me roofing samples and options. Pete's estimate came to me within 5 days. Of the 3 bids, his was the only one that came within the range of roof replacement as published on the Chicago Initiative website. The others were much higher and completely out of the range. Once I signed the contract it was about 4 weeks before the work was done on 11/20 and 11/21. The 6 man crew was on time, working quickly and efficiently, focused on the job, cleaned up after themselves and answered any questions I had. One problem was encountered that increased the original estimate $400, which I expected. The roof looks great.

+ -1 moreWe had a gutter installed by another vendor, and after 2 winters, it went bad and came loose from the house. I checked Angie's list and called Ciraulo and Sons. Pete answered the phone, even though it was late on a Sunday. He took the time to listen to what the problem was and arranged to come out for an estimate. We also discussed the possibility of having our roof replaced, as it was 16 years old and missing some shingles. Pete took considerable time to explain that they only do tear-offs, and why and exactly what materials they use and how they protect the house. Pete was very helpful, courteous, and friendly. He was also extremely professional and seemed to care about doing the best job possible. He was unhurried, even given the fact that it was a Sunday and spent time on subsequent calls discussing the job. Pete is the very best. I would highly recommend him for any roofing or siding job. He exemplifies old time professionalism, customer service, and quality workmanship.
Description of Work: We had a gutter falling off of our upper roof and contacted Ciraulo and Sons to replace it. They later replaced our roof and repaired some damaged plywood. They tore off the original roof, put down the proper protective materials between the shingles and roof, and installed architectural shingles. I compared pricing with other vendors, and they were in the same ballpark. They were on time, completed the work in one day, and cleaned up the yard. The finished work was excellent. Pete's crew was professional, careful, and skilled. Update: 2010 I recommended Ciraulo and sons to my neighbor. He had them replace his roof and they were very pleased with his work.

He also stated that he normally didn't do this type of work ($500 small repair), but would be happy to squeeze it in with his other area jobs. Although we didn't use him in the end, I felt he was very honest and we'd definitely consider them for future work.

There was a lot of damage to our ceiling and a broken window, but it was a poorly-rehabbed 1920's house with lots of difficulties, so it likely was beyond their control, but it would have been helpful to know that going in. They did additional creative work to solve problems discovered on the job and seemed very honest in what was charged.

Pete and his crew arrived on time, immediately followed by the dumpster and delivery of shingles. This was the most organized and efficient crew we ever had work on our house. We have NO complaints. + 0 moreI was very happy with the work and the service. My old skylights were odd sizes that are not made anymore and Mr. Ciraulo went to great lengths to ensure that I had workable replacements. I ended up with similar sized skylights, but needed to do some interior work when they were installed. He was very clear to explain so my expectations were right on target. Also was very clear on how the job would be done and what to expect before, during and after. The team cleaned up everything. The price was similar to other bids I received. The other companies didn't mention issues with skylights.

+ 0 morePete is the best-kept roofing secret in Chicago's western suburbs. Pete promptly responded to my phone call and came out to give a quote the next day. The quote was detailed and reasonably priced, and included replacing the flat roofs on my garage and family room - a job many roofers won't consider. He didn't even request a down payment. Pete was out there with his crew promptly on work start day and the workers were quick, courteous and thorough. Pete was completely responsible for acquiring the Dumpster and the city permit. Because of the threat of rain, finalizing the work was delayed by a day, but Pete and the crew were out there promptly the next day. Everything was covered and cleaned up before they left on both days. I can't say enough about this company. I've dealt with some of the area roofers that "everyone" uses and they did a shoddy and expensive job even on a small repair. Pete is aces in my book.
Description of Work: Tear-off and reshingled hip roof, replaced roof vents, reroofed flat roofs over garage and family roof addition, repaired overhang roof on bay window, cleaned gutters.

+ -1 moreWe contacted 10 contractors to get bids on our tear off job. Pete was actually one of the last that we contacted yet he was the first out to get us an estimate. He was out the day after we spoke and had called me by noon of the following day with his estimate. His estimate was in our hands before most of the others had even been out to inspect the roof. Work started and was completed on schedule with an exemplary crew. The roof is beautiful and even with all of the wood that they replaced, Pete's final costs was still below where all of the other contractors prices started. Clean up was complete and there was no sign that so much work had been done on our property. Pete was courteous, generous with his time and answered all of our questions completely and thoroughly. This was a completely professional company that if anyone asks I will not hesitate to recommend.

+ -1 moreOverall a very good experience. I got 6 bids before accepting Ciraulo. They were not the cheapest but very close. Their bid only included what I needed and not a lot of extras. Other bids sometimes included work I didn't feel I needed. Pete was very upfront and I believe he was honest with me. The roofers completed the work in about 6 hours. Pete gave me a follow-up call to make sure I was satisfied with the work that same evening. The crew did a great job and cleaned up everything. I haven't found a nail yet. Hopefully the roof will last 20+ years.

AFTER I GAVE HIM MY SPECS ON WHAT I WANTED, HE EXPLAINED IN DETAIL WHAT HE WOULD DO: FOR EXAMPLE, HE ONLY HAND NAILS THE SHINGLES, AND DOES NOT USE A NAIL GUN. I REQUIRED 6 NAILS PER SHINGLE (INSTEAD OF THE STANDARD 4) TO GIVE MY ROOF A 100+ MPH WIND RATING. PETE SAID THAT WOULD BE NO PROBLEM. PETE CAME IN WITH THE LOWEST QUOTE BY SEVERAL THOUSAND DOLLARS AND MADE MY DECISION EASY. PETE ATTACHED MY SPECS TO HIS CONTRACT AND WE SIGNED IT. THE JOB TOOK A DAY AND A HALF BECAUSE A FAIR AMOUNT OF SHEETING NEEDED TO BE REPLACED; OTHERWISE, THIS WOULD HAVE BEEN A 1-DAY JOB. THIS GUY'S EXTREMELY REPUTABLE AND HONEST. I HIGHLY RECOMMEND CIRAULO & SONS ROOFING. I HAVE BEEN THROUGH 2 HEAVY RAINS SINCE THE ROOF WAS REPLACED AND HAVE SEEN NO PROBLEMS. DOWN THE STREET FROM ME, ANOTHER HOUSE WAS HAVING THE ROOF REPLACED AT THE SAME TIME AS MINE. THE HOUSE HAS THE SAME STYLE ROOF AS MINE. IT TOOK 4 DAYS FOR THAT ROOF TO BE DONE!! OBVIOUSLY NOT A CIRAULO JOB. IF NEIGHBORS ASK FOR A REFERRAL FROM ME FOR THEIR ROOF, PETE HAS MY HIGHEST RECOMMENDATION.
Description of Work: I NEEDED TO HAVE MY ROOF REPLACED ON MY SPLIT LEVEL HOME. PETE GAVE ME THE ESTIMATE AND I AGREED TO THE PRICE. HIS GUYS WERE HERE AT 7AM. HE PICKED UP THE VILLAGE WORK PERMIT. IT WAS DETERMINED THAT THE SHEATHING UNDER THE ASPHALT SHINGLES WOULD PROBABLY NEED TO BE REPLACED. PETE HAD TOLD ME THIS WOULD PROBABLY BE THE CASE AS HE HAD DONE SIMILAR JOBS IN MY AREA AND HAD SEEN THIS TO BE SO. AFTER THE OLD SHINGLES WERE OFF, THEY REPLACED THE 3/8'' SHEATHING WITH 1/2'' OSB SHEATHING. THE CREW WAS DONE BY 5PM. EVERYTHING WAS LEFT AS IT WAS BEFORE THEY ARRIVED. SUPER CLEAN UP JOB. THE DUMPSTER WAS PICKED UP THE NEXT AFTERNOON AND I HAD A NEW ROOF.
