Pleasant Hill Construction was hired as our general contractor for our home that suffered a fire on June 28th 2014. After several months of very poor work, lack of professionalism, and price gouging we are left with an unfinished home. We received a bill for demo, electrical, plumbing, siding , insulation and framing. Demo---- timeline was 2 weeks, it took 1month and3 weeks. The demo men were caught on several occasions drinking beer on the front porch, and in our home. We had no electricity at the time of demo, so they opted to run an extension cord from my neighbors home from an outside outlet without permission. They demolished electrical, plumbing and fixtures that we intended to remain in the home. I later received a bill for their mistakes. Electrical-- I was charged for new wiring with a 200 amp service box, that stated we had arc faults in all wiring upstairs, which are the bedrooms. They did not install this type of arc fault wiring, but stated they did which is a huge safety issue for our children as well as my husband and I. This type of mistake can cause fire to spread throughout the entire home. The electrical box only has 90 amps of power, that need to be redone. The kitchen itself which is tied in with another room has 20 amp breaker. Panel needs to be redone. They told us is passed the city of Chicago inspection, which we now come to find out was not the truth. Only a portion of the home passed inspection, not the entire house. Flooring--- They charged us to level the subfloors thought the home and billed us for cdx plywood. They did not use cdx, They did however use OSB which is strand board that is not tongue and groove. They did not glue these floors, which is causing them to squeak already. This OSB subfloor was exposed to the elements in the month of December due to them not finishing the roof before they installed the floors. These floors held puddles of water for days at a time. They all need to be replaced. Plumbing-- The plumbing was run to the upstairs bathrooms, which have leaks in the drains. Thankfully we caught this before drywall was installed. (They said they were ready for drywall, which raised some red flags for us) Insulation --- We hired an insulation specialist to inspect the work that was " fully completed". The insulation needs to be taken out, and redone also. They used unfaced insulation and placed it directly on the roof decking, allowing NO airflow. Baffes were to be installed to allow venting and airflow, which they said they fixed. Upon inspection of the redone work, we found they only did some of the rafters, not all, as expected. Much of the downstairs insulation also must be taken out and redone for not meeting code. Siding, soffit, and fascia---- They used a 6 foot brake to bend the soffit, which now has gaps, and need to be redone. The siding also has gaps where it meets windows, and corners. We have to redo much of this exterior. We have received two general contractor bids to "fix" the work performed by Pleasant Hill. Both are in the ballpark of 50K. In addition, our interior doors, trim and radiator covers were to be left at our home. Pleasant Hill will not return our property. They are antiques which were original to the house built in 1894.
