We purchased two garage doors to be installed from Home Depot in Jacksonville, IL. The contractor they use is Clopay Garage Doors. We ordered the doors in October 2011. By Christmas we still had not heard anything about site inspection or installation, so we called Home Depot. We were told that Home Depot has a lot of trouble with Clopay and get lots of complaints about their customer service. (Of course, nobody bothered to tell us that when we purchased our doors!) Clopay said they lost our order so our doors did not get installed until February 2012. Two weeks after being installed, with normal usage, one garage door came apart so that we could no longer use it. The doors were still under warranty, so we called Home Depot and told them we needed the installer to come back out to fix the door. After repeated calls to Home Depot over the course of a month, and speaking with the store and department managers, a representative from Clopay finally called to say that they would send the installer out again but that the repairs most likely would not be covered by warranty and we would probably have to pay for a new garage door panel because we hooked a garage door opener up to the door. When the installer was there he helped us hook up the opener to the door, so he knew we were going to use an opener with the door. Also, should a garage door be so flimsy that it can't be hooked up to an opener without breaking it? Anyway, at this point, a month and a half after the door failed, we still have not had anyone come out to repair the door. My advise to anyone would be not to order garage doors through Home Depot until they stop using Clopay as their supplier. Home Depot is already aware that Clopay does not provide good customer service or satisfaction but they continue to use them.
