FRED J SMITH ROOFING

Do not use Fred J Smith roofing [Hearsay removed]. My home now needs a real roof thanks to his lack of caring about what he does to customers homes. Do not under any circumstance trust this guy as he is not worth your time or heartache. I asked him to fix the mess he did and he refused. Told me I needed to sue him which is exactly what I did.

They originally came to work on the two vent pipes but we asked them if they could take care of some additional issues around our chimneys. They were very accommodating and did all the work quickly and efficiently!

It was fine, took the old one off put the new one on in a day. He showed me a bunch of samples, I picked out architectural shingles that were energy efficient, they had energy star symbol and rated that. Everything went very well, there was some extra work the original estimate was $5700 but I need part of the wood panel replaced so that put it up to $6500. He was referred to me by the people who put in the caps on my chimney.

Didn't say up front there was a cost for the roof estimate. Other roofers were very clear up front. Gave me a hard time when I explained that he never told me up front. Unprofessional and unorganized.

Fred explained to me that the principle problem with my attic ventilation was insufficient number of enough roof vents, not the burned out attic fan. Further, he said that the fan we had previously gotten installed was in the wrong place, so it could never have functioned properly. Fred said he didn't do vent installation, but, if we had it done and still wanted the fans installed he could give us an estimate, which I felt was a good price. Fred came a long way and gave a free estimate, talking himself (for now) out of a job. He was professional and cheerful, and was helpful in explaining the job requirements. I would recommend him and will use him if the fans will still need to be installed.

We're very pleased with this company. They are excellent. He wasn't here for very long, but he seemed interested in the project. He seemed like a nice guy.

He was nice. He did a fine job. He cleaned up and everything. The roof hasn't leaked, and I think it's going to be fine.

Fred Smith is a good and quality person to work with. Fred performed quality job on time and on budget.

We have a relatively new roof (5 years on a 40-year guaranteed shingle), yet were getting leaks into our cathedral ceiling near the chimney and skylights. The previous roofing contractor apparently did a horrible (and lazy) job of not installing flashing properly on the re-roof project. When called, Fred came out the same afternoon, reviewed the situation, gave an estimate on the spot and came out the next day to perform the service. His work was excellent, very good with clean-up, did some extra caulking around the skylight glass not contracted for (at no cost!). Great job, obviously very knowledgeable (30+ years in the business) and very concerned about producing a quality job that holds up over time.

The estimate was free. They had a quick response. Fred was friendly, informative and easy to work with. We scheduled the work for 2 weeks later in anticipation of snow and the need to trap all the squirrels who had found my home a home. Unfortunately, a sealer tube of black 'tar' was tossed from the roof to the lawn and forgotten. But, the tube was found by the ever curious golden retriever puppy who retrieved and mangled and had tar all over her cute puppy face. It took a trip to the groomer, after mineral spirits were tried at home, to have the tar removed. When called, Fred said that he was making sure the tar missed the patio so that it would not leave marks. He did not offer to pay for the groomer.
