I was selling my house, so when radon was detected during a buyer inspection, I contacted three mitigation companies. We were scheduled to close, so I needed a mitigation system installed quickly. VSI was by far the easiest to work with and the least expensive. Unlike the other companies, they were able to give me a quote the same day and without an inspection. VSI was able to install a mitigation system within two weeks, and the price was just over half what I was quoted by other companies. I would absolutely recommend VSI! Great people, great system, great price!

VSI is the real deal. After testing my house & finding levels too high, I started searching for mitigation (Angie, HomeAdvisor, Yelp, etc.). VSI was on every list, their website is extremely informative, and the founder (Mr. Volsted) even created courses @ U of Chicago about radon – some reputation! Then my personal trainer showed me a picture of her radon mitigation system and there was the VSI sticker. So I called, Kevin answered quickly, and after several questions he gave me a quote over the phone & sent emailed it within the hour. A week later Guy and his crew came and did an exceptional job installing the system. Very professional work – respectful of property, wore booties inside, vacuum attachment on concrete drills so minimal dust, and cleaned up everywhere. Great color match on outside piping. Guy even did a smoke test w/ pilot holes to demonstrate the suction beneath the basement floor. Guy gave detailed explanations & answered all my questions. I have a continuous monitoring system and even within a few hours radon levels have already dropped significantly. Very satisfied, highly recommended!

During the process of selling our house the buyer's inspection turned up a high level of radon. We needed to get the problem mitigated as soon as possible. Called VSI based on a recommendation from our RE agent and VSI's rating on Angies List. Antone was very understanding and was able to schedule us quickly due to a cancellation. The crew arrived on time and installed the system without any problems. The retesting showed a reduction of nearly 98% in the radon level. Needless to say we were very pleased.

VSI is a professional and reliable company. They have helped me out on a couple of occasions in relation to our sump pump and each time I have found them to be knowledgeable, experienced, respectful and trustworthy. The most recent visit was to install a combination primary and battery backup sump pump. They carry the Pro Series PHCC line which is a premium brand with excellent pumping capabilities. The primary pump has a powerful pumping capacity of 3000 GPH at 10ft lift and the battery backup has an equally impressive 2400 GPH at 10ft lift - which is more powerful than many of the primary pumps on the market! I now have complete piece of mind knowing that, not only do I have a more powerful primary pump, I also have a battery backup pump which will activate during power outages or if the primary pump fails or cannot keep up with the volume of water entering the sump pit. Another advantage to this system is that it is much quieter that I hardly hear the sump pump cycle now. So, a big thank you to Anton and David for their knowledge and expertise and for being so patient in answering my many questions about this system and a big thank you to Paul for skillfully installing it. You all make a great team!

The system was installed and reduced our level from 5.1 to 0.6. Ken took time to explain the system and how to monitor it. The installation was clean and neat and the work area was left spotless. Scheduling was efficient and the process explained. Ken and has assistant arrived on time and after assessing the work, accurately estimated when the work would be complete. He respected our house by laying a drop cloth all along the walking path.

Antone was very responsive to all my questions as I had a lot to learn. Other neighbors had used this same company and were pleased with their results. Two guys were in the house for 5 hours. Answered all my questions, were polite, professional, knowledgeable. Prior tests I had done with different detectors showed 5.0-8.0 readings in basement near sump pump. Bought a new detector at time of installation. Current reading (2 weeks of data) shows 0.3 pic/liter. Pretty amazing difference, and peace of mind.

Still working great after 2 years! Radon levels have consistently remained at .9 or below. My reason for writing the review now is the superior self-service that sadly not all companies provide as willingly as VSI has!! Here in Chicago it's been frigid - well below zero hitting -24 at my home today. I was concerned that the Radon Remediation system was not operating and that I might need to go outside to take a look at the fan unit and exhaust. I first took at look at the company web site and was extremely glad to see specific information on system exhaust freezing up in the coldest weather, and that "Nothing" needed to be done. The system is designed to manage through the extreme weather changes and should be back to normal in a few days when the weather warms up a bit! I'm very grateful for the online troubleshooting info that kept me from going outside with -35 or more wind chill when I really didn't need to! Thank you VSI!

We hired VSI to install a radon mitigation system in our basement. Overall, we found VSI easy to work with, responsive to our calls, efficient in their installation and most importantly, SUPER responsive and helpful with post installation questions and issues. We had some issues with our outside vents leaking water and freezing up -- VSI came out three times (always the same day) to fix the problem and ultimately they replaced our external vent pipes for free. Would highly recommend.

they were clean. not the most professional image of the staff. biggest issue was two-fold: 1) inital wiring was to t a power line that had and on/off switch which the fan cannot have 2) they took the path of least resistance to run the pipe. I lost space for a garbage can in the garage ( they could have moved it over a foot to avoid. They also ran the pipe right next to the garage attic door making access difficult.

Overall, easy to work with. Arrived on time and finished when they predicted. No sign of any mess from all they did. The team worked with me to find the least unobtrusive area of the house to install the fan and ventilation. Also, we got lucky and their colors closely matched our siding. They painted the fan unit to match. They were recommended by my son so I did not first check them out on Angie's List so missed the discount. Only drawbacks are 1. solvent smell from pipe glue takes several hours to dissipate and 2. you have to be prepared to handle all the permit application and inspection calls yourself.

Wish I checked Angieslist on price for radon reduction before the work. I was quoted $1750 on the phone. I had to apply permit by myself. On the day job is scheduled, they checked crawl space and said I gave wrong size, which I gave the room size on top of crawl space but there is actually another room. They wanted $200 more. I agreed it as I assume that is extra work. Once job is completed, I found out the extra work is to roll more plastic to cover the area. I complained extra charge is too high and no clear price quote was given at proposal. The owner screamed at phone that if I don't pay extra, they will rip the system off and repeatedly gave F-word. I had never dealt with contractors been so rude and tricky on pricing. They could come out and measure and give exact quote, instead of up-charging me at job site when I have no choice.

Response from VSI Radon Reduction Corp.
I am sorry that you feel this way. Our phone proposals are as good as the information we are given and we try very hard to stick to our pricing if all the information is correct. At no [Member Information Removed] did we try to be "tricky" with the price. We quoted you a price based on your measurements of the crawl. The size of the crawl that we would cover and seal were clearly stated on the proposal that you received ahead of time. Had you told us you did not know the size of the crawl space, we would have sent someone to measure it ahead of time. We would not have been able to give you a price without the size. As you said, the crawl was larger than stated. Our installer gave you a new price before performing any work, you agreed and signed for the new price. At this [Member Information Removed] you could have declined the work and there would have been no charge to you. Once the work was completed you gave the installer a check for the original proposal amount and refused to pay for the additional work, the installer called the office and you and I spoke. In 30 years of being in business I have never had someone refuse to pay for extra work that they had signed for ahead of time. Yes, things escalated rapidly over the phone and I do apologize for my language but we were very up front over all the pricing and the only argument was over your refusal to pay for the extra work we just performed.

The quote was given verbally on the phone. Contractor came to the site and asked for more money. Not a pleasant experience. Company should send out people to make the quote. If size is not accurate, it is NOT owner's fault! Yelled by the owner on the phone.

Far better than I thought it would. I invited four bidders. All of whom rated well via Angie's. Yet the differences, for me at least, were stark and dramatic. VSI stood out for commitment and creativity. Getting the job done right while working through complex structural demands. VSI's solution was price competitive and value-laden. The price was high compared to standard, straightforward radon mitigation installations. Our's was anything but standard and straightforward. All the bids for this job came in at or above VSI's price. The other three, though, missed some subtleties in placement and pipe runs that VSI caught and ultimately enhanced their solution far beyond the economics.
