Spark Decorating

Eric Lyday, the owner of Sparks Decorating came to my home, took a deposit, ($2400.) left to do personal errands, then took off for two days to go on estimates, (where he probably took more deposits), did some really horrible work, that he said he would fix, and then never returned!! I also don't understand how Eric can use another companies reviews. Prizm Decorating is not Spark Decorating! He merely worked there. So unethical. I almost forgot to mention he scratched my new hardwood floor and ruined my stainless steel sink cleaning his tools.

I am still in the midst of this project. I can however say that form the startI have been extremely impressed with Chris and his staff.He goes out of his way to do the best job possible.

3/6/18 Very very pleased. Quick on a quote. Very reasonable for the work that had to be done. Corner taping seam cracked due to settling of home. Chris tore out the old tape, replaced it and painted the walls and ceiling of my hallway. I cannot tell there ever was a problem. He further painted our entryway and foyer. Showed up as scheduled, worked very hard all day and cleaned up afterwards. I will hire them again.

Excellent service. Finished project in quoted time. Professional, and very clean. Extremely satisfied. I plan on hiring on again.

We're very happy with the results. The cracks are no longer visible. The walls are painted with a suede finish and the room looks great. The painters arrived on time and were polite and considerate. Our furniture and flooring were protected. They cleaned everything up when finished.

We loved the quality of work that Chris with Prizm Decorating did! He was always here right at the time he said in the morning. He made sure to move and cover the furniture and baseboards. They did an excellent job of patching, we can't even see where they did. When we did not like one of the paint colors we had chose, he worked with us to find the right color and made sure we were happy. Both Chris and his worker Eric were very friendly and trustworthy. We will use him in the future and would recommend him!

Everything about this job from the quote to the completion of the job was professional. Will be hiring in the future for other painting.

We've never hired painting services before. Chris wasn't the lowest bid, but he explained/made recommendations on what he was going to do to address the improvements we wanted to the house and provided the most professional written proposal. I was impressed with his drywall repair skills for the problem areas we had. We wanted to use Sherwin Williams products. He uses them and guided us to which exact products to choose based on our project and handled getting all the materials needed in the bid. Ryan was on our project and appreciated his skills on the painting. The only thing I did not anticipate in this whole thing was the cleanup phase. Anticipate that even with all the coverings and drop cloths used, there is still some paint cleanup required before putting your furniture back. It was explained to me that sometimes the cloth shifts with a ladder and people moving on the cloth. It does come up using their instructions and now I have the cleanest floors and trim on the block... for the moment :)

I was very disappointed in this contractor. I asked him upfront if he could use the brand of paint I wanted and he said yes. I do not like the brand that he preferred to use and have not had good experience with that brand in the past. He had the opportunity to turn down the job if he didn’t want to work with the brand I asked. I thought he’d pick up the paint but he told me how much to buy and I had it waiting for him just as he asked. He also told me that he worked with a guy that he’s had help him for years and that they’d be doing the job. He showed up with two other workers and said that he wouldn’t be doing the job but that he had other business. He hung around my house just long enough to see how the paint was covering on the first coat and told me to get more and that I needed to do it then so his guys wouldn’t have to stop. I knew that I might have to get more paint – hopefully not, but I didn’t expect to be told that I had a half hour and in that manner. I called a friend to pick the stuff up as I didn’t have time to get to the store and back in that time. The problem was that he knew where I bought the paint and that that wasn’t possible and didn’t care. Once he was satisfied that his workers wouldn’t spend an extra 20 seconds at my house waiting for paint he left. The problem was that if he had acted like a painter instead of a CEO, he might have picked up a brush and found out that the second coat went on fine and that he had just made me buy another $300 of paint for nothing. That was half the cost of the labor and that was on top of the amount of paint he had initially made me buy. His one employee said sorry and that the second coat went on much better that the first. What a surprise that the first coat of paint just got sucked into the new, unfinished, porous concrete but that the second coat went on just fine. I know that that much about unfinished concrete, and I’m not a painter. Again if this owner was actually interested in my job and not his other business, he might have made a better judgment on the paint and I wouldn’t be out $300. Instead of just guessing and ordering me to get more paint and have it there in a half hour so his guys didn’t stand still, he could’ve picked up a brush and started the second coat to see how the paint would perform. But then why should he, it wasn’t his $300 he wasted. According to his one employee’s estimate, I have more than enough paint for a third coat on my basement. This was poor business by this business owner and showed total lack of respect for me as a customer and a person. I could’ve used that $300 that is now in paint that will end up in the landfill. There were no remedies or discounts that I believe could be worked out. I paid for the labor and trusted this painter/owner to know his business and not waste $300 of my money when he told me how much paint to buy. I believe I was not an important job to him which is why he didn’t do any of my job himself and was in such a rush he couldn’t be bothered to give me an accurate estimate when in effect spending/wasting hundreds of dollars of my money.

They were excellent. I have high ceilings here - the foyer has about a 15 ft. ceiling. It was most important for me that they do the patching work well. They did a beautiful job of both the painting and the patching. The people that have seen the work have asked for their card. I am hoping they get more business in the community. They were very neat and cleaned up after themselves. There were three painters here, and they finished the job in one day. We had an issue over the front door where it wasn?t smooth like it should have been. I called them, and they came back immediately off of another job. They repaired the wall, and the wall is perfect now. I was very pleased. I had gotten three estimates. They were a little bit higher than another provider, but I wanted to go with them because they stressed on doing repairs. They were supposed to be here at 8:00, and they were actually out here in front at 7:30 and walked in the front door at 8:00. I would rate them highly and would use them again in the future; in fact, I have already called and told them that when they are available, I would want them to come back and paint four more rooms.
