Hoekstra Heating & Air Conditioning

I spent a lot because I got the furnace and air conditioner, and I had a tremendous amount of duct work installed. They did pretty good work. Price-wise could have done better.

We have them come every year, we have a check every year. Whenever they come they do a great job. We do the annual contract. If you are handicapped, they come out right away. They are like Johnny on the spot. We had the air conditioning go out and they were John handy, because we can’t go without air conditioning. We do have to pay when they come. It’s a contract. You basically get your heating and cooling done at a cheaper price I think. If you have a problem then you are first on the list. If you’re handicap then you’re really first on the list. I think they come on the weekend too. I think their price is average. They are really good. They’ve been there forever.

They come twice a year, spring and fall. It's an annual check-up. I have a service agreement, so I don't know for sure what all that is. We've been using them for 40 years.

They are expensive, but they are good.

They were competitive on pricing. Very good.

Hoekstra did a great job. Wouldn't hesitate to hire again or recommend them to anyone. Everyone from the scheduler, estimator and the installers did a great job. Very professional, high quality people and work.

This was the first time I called Hoekstra for service. They asked me the address and determined that they had previously serviced the unit for the prior owner. We set up an appointment time for about one week out. When the technician arrived, he went up in the attic where the A-Coil and blower are located--he was up there for all of about one minute and came down and told me he had to call the office because he did not think they still serviced high velocity air conditioners. He did not put the attic scuttle back properly and left finger prints all over it. He then went outside to make his call and came back in to inform me that he could not work on the unit. Since they had previously serviced the air conditioner, they knew very well what type of unit it was. They should have told me then, during that phone call, that they no longer serviced high velocity air units. If they had done that, I would have found someone else, and not wasted my time. As a result, I now am waiting another week for a different company to come out to repair my air conditioner. They need to do a better job asking questions and disclosing the services they do and don't provide. I definitely would not recommend them.

I've used them for over 20 some years. I have them twice a year do heating and air conditioning, before the heating season, before the air conditions season. I just know I trust them. I believe I have them scheduled for probably June, I think.

Just one person came. They were there for about 3 hours. They did well. They were very technically competent. I guess they did kind of a basic job so that's why I haven't used them again.

Polite, efficient, quick to come if you had an emergency.

The worker that I came in contact with was very good and very professional. He knew what he was doing and he got the job done.

Absolutely amazing service!!! This company was recommended to me by a friend/co-worker and told me that I could not go wrong with these guys. I can not say enough great things about them. Scott sold us the unit and spent over two hours with us going over our system and actually measuring all the windows and rooms and ducts. He also let us know our brand new airconditioning unit (sold to us by Four Seasons--avoid Four Seasons at all costs!!) was grossly oversized, and he was invaluable in helping us fix that issue! Our techs were Todd and Romeo--beyond professional and very helpful. Very courteous and careful of our house, Laid down sheets on floors everywhere for protection. Always wore shoe coverings. Answered every question we had completely. Helped us to obtain our rebate with the utility company. Cleaned up everything! They were nice enough to check the installation of the air conditioning unit at my request to make sure it was installed correctly--it was wired incorrectly and they fixed it on the spot. Absolute excellence with these two. I can tell you this--you can not go wrong with this company. Their priority is quality. I was able to text Scott anytime I needed to with questions. He was even nice enough to speak with me when I got home from work at 930PM. Everyone was professional, responsive, prompt and courteous.

They wanted $140 to even discuss pricing. Refused to provide any sort of estimate without sending out a tech and charging $140.

The service person showed up on time. The maintenance on the A/C unit was performed quickly and professionally.

Scott came to our house promptly upon our request and took a look at our existing equipment, which was 15 years old and failing, and made his suggestions, which included adding more "return air" duct work to eliminate a problem that we were having with the "A" coil freezing up during peak usage time. The other two companies made no such recommendation. Scott measured all of the rooms in the house, counted up all of the air vents and returns and showed me his calculation for his argument as to adding additional return air ducts. Knowing that he was correct sold me on the deal. Yes, his price was several hundred dollars more than his competitors, but he was able to secure approval from the company's owner to "throw in" the whole house humidifier for free (cost for this was $375), which made the deal more attractive. He made me feel confident that I was getting a fair deal and a correctly designed system. The sales person for a competitor called me the next day and when I told him why I decided to go with Hoekstra, he told me that "he could add the duct space for $100" but when I asked him why he didn't suggest that to begin with, he had no answer. They would have been happy to just sell me equipment that wouldn't operate properly! Anyway, Hoekstra scheduled me for the install date, just three days later, and promptly showed up at 9:00a.m. to perform the work. The installers, Eduardo and Julius, were very polite, clean (tarps, shoe covers, etc.) and worked efficiently to complete the installation by 5:00 p.m. They tested the new furnace but because it was only 49 degrees outside on the date of the install, they couldn't test the AC but advised me that "Jackie" would be in contact. I spoke with Jackie a few days later and she scheduled an "AC start-up" for today (65 degrees outside). The gentleman showed up at 11:00 a.m. as promised (told 11am-2pm) and in an hour's time, he had the AC fine tuned and running correctly. Hoekstra came well recommended by several of my friends and now I understand why. "You get what you pay for" was true in my case but I couldn't be happier or more impressed with my experience with Hoekstra. Call them, you won't regret it!

Highly highly recommended. Unlike other providers, Hoekstra came out and made measurements and calculations based on the house and our usage, as Consumer Reports advises. They were able to customize a system for us. We spent more but got a really high efficiency, very quiet total system. Purchased through Costco. Got both ComEd and Nicor rebates. From the initial contact, through the very thorough customization process, and right through the installation, Hoekstra was very professional. The technicians who installed the equipment wore booties and took the time to walk me through all I need to do to maintain it, and explained the entirety of the system to me, including the old parts. Very thorough, very professional, and friendly and hard working. Can't say enough good!

Installers where professional, answered any and all questions. The team was also very neat and cleaned up perfectly when all finished. I would use them again.

The gentleman arrived on time and was pleasant to talk to. He was in and out in about 20 minutes. I was very happy when he said retro fitting my 100 year old home with central air was definitely not a problem. I waited over a week to hear back from them and when I still didn't, I called. When I talked to the person who answered the phone, she was very apologetic but informed me that they don't pull permits in the city of Chicago. I was very upset because I was inquiring about having a total system put in and clearly they knew I lived in the city, why didn't they tell me that upfront instead of wasting my time.

They have put in a new A/C unit and new furnaces as need be. I definitely like them and I have a maintenance contact with them so if I do run into any problems they come out and do the repair without charging overtime or weekend fees. I get a discount on the maintenance service and the cleaning of the furnace and air conditioners when I prepay for the service contact. I would definitely recommend them. They come out in the spring and the fall. Their maintenance agreements cost me about $279. I have two separate contracts so that is two units, once a year. They are very professional and the people that come out are young men and do the cleaning. They seem to be very knowledgeable about the units and they always communicate well with me about what is going on with the equipment. If there is anything that needs to be done, like if the filter needs to be changed or something with the humidifier they always take care of things promptly. They are pretty good about coming out when they say they are coming.

We had Hoekstra out and gave us a quote we had to wait a while to get money together but when we did we scheduled the appointment 2 trucks came out and started right away. They were there all day till about 10:00pm. while it was a big job because of the house. I thought they would be done by 7 and when I talked to the guys they said no they will be there until it is done. I felt bad they worked so late but I really liked that they were dedicated to getting it done in one day no matter what. I had some secondary questions and follow up so I called them up and they came right out when I asked and the tech walked me around the new system made sure I was compfortable with everything. He even talked to me about parts of the system they did not install and made sure I was comfortable with entire HVAC system. Later I had issues with Rebates for Gas company and Electric since I bought high effeciency items. I just made one call to Hoekstra and they dealt with both companies and I had no issues and just got checks in the mail for rebates. I was glad not to have to deal with that hassle. This is the second house I have used Hoekstra on and while they are a little expensive I have no problem paying the extra money when I get such good service and don't have to deal with the hassle of other companies.

After having another HVAC repairman out to fix the furnace and it was still broke we called Hoekstra. Romell came out on Tues.11/4/14 to diagnose why our furnace blower was working but blowing cold air. After diagnosing that the problem was the circuit board (which is something the other repairman said it couldn't be) Romell called the office to order one since he did not have one on the truck. The next day Wed. 11/5/14 Tarah called to arrange for a repairman to come back out. She very nicely worked with me for a time frame where I could get home from work. Also, as she was working with me Tarah was very adamant that she knew we had no heat and wanted to make sure they took care of that problem. Tim came out and replaced the circuit board and the furnace has been working ever since. Timely work and knowledgeable diagnosis. Fantastic customer service and they really care about their customers.

The repairman responded and arrived quickly. Was very through and knowledgeable.

I really liked them. They are excellent. They arrived on time and they are professional. They are very nice and they made a difference in my house. I definitely saw that there was a difference. They also did exactly what they have to do and explained everything to me. I definitely saw the benefit of their service.
