The contractor that installed the Trane furnace has always responded quickly and professionally. It is just that the equipment TRANE manufacters is poorly designed. After going to Consumer Reports I think I should have purchased a Rheem. I dont know about their design or quality but it would have been cheaper from the start and the service issues cant be much worse.
Description of Work: I had a new furnace and AC installed in July 2008 because my 20 year old AC compressor seized up. In March 2009 (still heating season in Chicago) the control board in the Trane furnace went bad and needed to be replaced. Same board in the summer of 2010 and again in summer of 2011. The last time being out of warrantee. 3 boards in 3 years. Now during Labor Day weekend the module on the blower motor went out. Another repair, two in the same summer. When the blower stops on this model there is no safety or communication to tell the AC to shut down so it continues pumping freon even after the entire furnace turns into a block of ice. That is a design flaw, if this continues soon the AC unit will need replacement parts as well. I have been very dissatisfied with this furnace and believe it was poorly designed or "designed to fail"! Had I known that when I purchased a new furnace I was becoming a reoccurring revenue stream to the authorized Trane contractor that installed it,I would have lived with my old Carrier furnace (that one never gave me any problems). The old inefficient model had a lower annual cost than my new efficient model. The service tech says all the models all have problems and this is standard operating procedure.
