I called on 3/25/19 to schedule an estimate and, since I needed a Saturday appointment, there was an understandably long wait. My appointment was scheduled for 4/20/19 between 10AM-12PM. Jesse called when he was on his way and arrived within the scheduled time frame. We talked about the job and I asked for 2 quotes - one to enclose the back section of my yard and another to fence the entire backyard. Jesse said that he would measure my yard and asked if it would be OK for him to email me the estimate. I was fine with this, especially considering that he was working on a weekend, and verified that he wrote down an accurate email address for me. He was on and off my property in less than 15 minutes, which I thought was pretty quick but figured that he didn't need much info for a quote. Anyway, fast forward 10 days later to 4/30/19. No email from Jesse and no follow-up phone calls from First Fence. I called the office to follow up and the secretary (Lisa?) seemed surprised that I had not received anything. She reported that Jesse was out in the field but that she would get a message to him. Today is 5/13/19 and I have not heard back. Clearly they do not want/need my business. I wish I had been told this during the appointment instead of having my time wasted.

The whole experience was really easy. Jesse was amazing. He was very professional, thorough, and addressed all of my questions/concerns. I read some of the negative reviews that were posted and I absolutely DID NOT experience any issues. They crew was incredible. My fence is beautiful and installed perfectly. They went above and beyond to make sure that there weren't any little gaps where my dog could get out. I am so happy and would definitely recommend or use First Fence again!

Eric came out to inspect the damage and give us an estimate on a repair or replace. He didn’t push us one way or the other which I appreciate. I decided I wanted the entire back section replaced. The project was delayed a couple of times due to weather, but when the fence was replaced, the crew did a great job. They built the cedar fence on site rather than use prefab sections. They cleaned up the site and didn’t damage any plants. The fence looks great and is rock solid.

It was a terrible experience using First Fence. The installation caused damage to a gas line running to my gas grill and damage to an underground sprinkler system. Despite being informed ahead of installation about those lines, First Fence claimed no responsibility. The fence itself was installed with several broken boards and is missing sufficient nails to hold it in place. The fence post caps were not nailed in place and fell off within a day. Despite promises from Jesse to repair the fence it never happened. Despite many phone calls to the office and to the sales person; promises on their behalf that the owner would call me to discuss the situation never happened. John either never received the messages or simply does not care about customer satisfaction.

Everything went well. The workers were polite and professional.

The worst ever!!!!!! They are completely unprofessional and have no idea what they are doing. AVOID!!!!! They took my money. Accessed area of my home without permission and just left because life is hard and people have expectations.

Wow- what a fence. When the wind started blowing down our old rotted fence, I knew we needed something that would stand the test of time yet also be warm and inviting if. The first fence blew us away!! It took about 2 full days to replace 200 double layered fence with 2 people helping, but the finished product is incredible and we are so glad we went with double layered fence. The engineering is amazing, and the thoughtfulness of the designer is in every small detail, from extra wiggle room if your posts are off 8’ center to a few extra screws in each packet just in case you drop one. A superior product and one I will recommend to others!

Overall we were happy with the result, but disappointed with the communication. We wanted to finish the partial fence around our backyard, and gave First Fence the specs from our HOA. The estimator was behind and it took a couple weeks before he could come out. My husband waited at home for the estimator on the scheduled day, but he did not even ring the doorbell. My husband called him later in the day and he said he had already been out. My husband would have preferred to discuss the job with him in person while he was here, and was denied that ability. Also, our HOA specs required a 5' fence height, but the existing fencing was actually 6'. The estimator wrote up the quote for 5' per the HOA, and did not even mention that it would be different than the existing fencing (which was merely being continued - it would have looked horrible!). One day while we were considering the quote, I realized the fencing was actually 6'. We called the estimator, and his response was "yeah it's 6', I noticed that." He did not say anything about it to us before, nor did he note it on the estimate. Disappointing. After revising the quote to a 6' fence rather than 5' (increasing the price of course), we decided to move forward with First Fence and made the down-payment. When I asked, the rep said the installation would occur in 4 to 6 weeks. Again, disappointing since we were hoping for a quick installation. As time went on, we did not hear from First Fence at all. Finally, after 4 weeks had passed, I called First Fence and was told they had us on the schedule for a specific date about 2 weeks out on a Wednesday. We began planning for the installation, but then on the Friday before, First Fence called and told us they would install on Monday. That was less convenient and we had to reschedule other things to accommodate on such short notice. The installation of the approximately 130 feet (including 2 gates) was completed in one day. The workers were mostly professional, although one of them told my husband they did not have enough wood, despite the estimator having come out and measured. That was certainly not our fault! (We were not charged extra, but my husband was worried they were trying to blame us.) So the whole thing took a minimum of 8 weeks - 2 weeks for the estimator to come out, then we sat on the estimate for a bit and had it changed, then 6 weeks from returning the signed contract with down-payment to installation. The end result looks great - cedar shadowbox fence that encloses our backyard. I just wish they had communicated more/better. For example, the gate type/size and lock mechanism was not discussed (beyond the basic info on the quote). I wonder now if we had any other choices than what they installed for the mechanism, but it's too late. I would have also appreciated some "caring for your wood fence" guidance/pamphlets so we can protect and care for the beautiful cedar wood. For the price ($5170 before the Angie's List discount, $4653 after), I think they are a bit on the high side. Maybe they were up-quoting us because of the size of our house? But it was difficult to find a reputable fence company in our area. The fence passed local permit inspection a couple days later with no problems. We are now the envy of our neighbors who do not have finished fences. I'm just glad the installation is finally over!

No issues, fence looks great, and the salesman actually gave me some really good advice.

John came out on time to give me an estimate. Made it clear about the mínimum due to it being a small job, but nonetheless treated me like it was a big one. To my surprise, the job was done weeks ahead of schedule since they were booked for the next four weeks. The gate looks amazing. Great company to do business with.

Everything went great! The guys that did the work were very professional and talked with me with any questions they had.

The demo of old fence went very quickly and surprisingly quietly. They were done with old fence with grown-thru trees very quickly. The install crew came and built the entire fence and driveway gate on site for exact custom fitting. The installers arrived at 7:30am, dug 24 post holes (i think) and were ready for village inspector at 9am, and began installing posts before 930am. They were courteous from the start. they were done with everything by 6pm the same evening!! They left the work site clean of all debris. The fence looks great, and I was happy to watch them take great care in making sure every board was properly attached; even QA'g the boards as they were installing to make sure they were all quality pieces of lumber. There was an additional 5-ft custom topper for one section of fence that they came back with the next business day, and all as agreed, the fence was complete beyond our satisfaction. I am calling First Fence for y next two projects: One more side of old cedar fence to replace to match (next year), and a short vinyl fencing to go around basement door steps once concrete gets replaced. First Fence did an excellent job of planning, communication, demolition of old fence, and installation of a very clean, perfectly straight fence. From my first contact with Jesse, to the patient office staff, to the installers, this was a great experience. My fence looks so good that my next door neighbors sent me a gift basket because they get to enjoy it too.

We needed an old fence removed and a new fence installed in our backyard. First Fence was by far the most responsive of any of the companies we contacted. They came out to survey and give an estimate within 24 hours of first contacting them. From there they were very professional and involved. We were able to change our mind on the style of fence in between the initial estimate and construction. The new fence is very high quality and looks great. Only minor criticism is they didn't directly contact me before moving construction back a day because of snow (Would rate Punctuality as an A- instead of B if Angies List let me). I will definitely use them again for new fencing in the future.

I'm delighted with First Fence. I had my new, gorgeous aluminum fence installed in Sept./Oct. 2016. I've had loads of compliments on it, including contractors who have asked me about it, who did it, etc. I've also had more than one car stop in the middle of the street when I was in my garden and they called out to ask me about it. After the first winter, one of my gates seemed to settle or shift (due to freezing & thawing ground over the winter). I had First Fence out to fix it. They tried tightening something. It worked for a very short time. Then I called my sales rep again and he came out to look at it. He didn't think much could be done unless I was willing to risk damage to my brand new pavers around it that were just installed. I was very unhappy. Then, today, out of the blue, I get a message from my sales rep, saying a crew was going to stop by. Well, they did. Samuel & George fixed it beautifully in just a couple minutes. They knew exactly what to do. I'm so appreciative of them and that First Fence tried multiple times to fix my fence issue in order to make me happy. THANK YOU! Samuel & George were great. Also great were Sergio, Tony, Roberto Chris & Eric. I've dealt with them all over the past year. I'm a fan.

First Fence did an excellent job. Their pricing is very competitive, the quality of the materials is very good and the installation was very professional. We are very happy with the work they did and would definitely recommend them if you are looking to have a fence installed on your property.

The intial sales person was extremely professional and knowledgeable. The work was done in two days for 150 square feet. I was not pleased with the placement of three post. First fence came back and reset everything. High quality product with reasonable pricing.

They came out to give an estimate. The phone set up went smoothly and the person was on time. However, 3 MONTHS later and I still don't have the estimate. I called and sent email follow ups, but never heard back anything. Giving up.

Delivered and installed as promised. Left my yard clean. They worked well with JULIE and with local inspectors. Love the fence.

Honestly the first company I have hired that I have been 100% happy with. The whole process was great and the fence is fantastic!

They installed a 5 ft. privacy fence with two gates, and I am very happy with the results. 50% down and 50% upon completion. I easily obtained a permit from the village to save $100. One gentleman worked all day to install it and did a great job. He asked me a couple of questions to make sure I got what I wanted, cleaned up after himself and left a great fence and yard behind.

Fence looks great. Wasn't ready when promised and some difficulties scheduling but mostly due to weather.

Responsiveness grade of C is because the Sales Rep, Eric, took 3 business days to return a phone call. The product looks great. Very good, quality job. They left our yard and garage a mess, I mean a complete mess, but I spoke with the Owner who made things right with me and I appreciate that.. Overall a good experience. Our gates look and work great. They are higher than anyone else I had give us estimates, but i try to support a local family owned business. Cost of 2 wood gates and about 3 feet of fencing was quoted to me at $1350. And don't forget to get your permit as my Sales Rep Eric said wouldn't do that for me.. Overall I'd give them a solid B
