They did a very good job at a reasonable price. We were very happy with their service. I would recommend them.

We got quotes from several contractors. Unique Deck was one of the companies that we contacted. They were quick with their quotation and it was detailed in what was provided. There were a number of items that were quoted in the Unique Builder quotation that were left out by others such as fees and permits that would have added to the cost. Others that we contacted initially came across as quite professional but when asked to make modifications and or adjustment and or leave a final quotation balked at doing so. The pricing that we got from Unique Decks was fair or more than fair and came in under our expectations. We were able to get a higher content of cedar interior that was possible with other contractors. The owner, Joel, took time to work with us and was very accurate and careful about explain a wide variety of options and the pluses and minus of each particular option. He returned calls promptly and when there were issues....a broken window on delivery...he handled it the next day and no time was lost. He kept in constant communication with us updating us with the scheudle and what would happen next. The workmen that were used arrived on site at the date and time that were committed and did the work in an excellent manner. They were polite and courteous and explained any thing and every thing that they were doing when asked to do so. They matched the roof and color of the addition perfectly. After the installation there were a few minor details that were noticed that were not discussed at the time of the original contract and Joel exceeded our expectations in fixing and or making the adjustments that were needed at no extra cost. We were so pleased with the work that we are now considering further modifications to the house and we will not feel the need to get other contractors involved. Our basement was damaged by the flood so they gave the quote for water damage and remodeling. They were on time, were punctual and professional.

Joel provided us with the quotes and plans. He even was willing to negotiate a little on price. He listened to our concerns and requirements. The workers were very nice and professional. The decks were exactly what we expected. We had one issue with the gate latch that Joel came right out to fix. He was very responsive. The deck's were a little pricey, but worth the money.

Initially, Joel was great. He was timely in giving us an estimate and was patient as we discussed some changes to the original estimate and plan. We signed a contract with him with a verbal agreement that the work would start (or at least materials would be delivered) "in about 2 weeks". After 2 weeks, our delivery date kept getting pushed off, then Joel stopped calling us back. I stopped by his store and spoke with his assistant, and still he never called back. We wasted a month with him. If you choose to do business with this company, think about getting a commitment on a start date, or establishing a penalty if not started by a certain date. With such a short warm season in Chicago, I hate that part of it is wasted while we find another contractor. What a disappointment.

Went to their store in Highland Park. I told them what I was looking for and requested an estimate. I was told somebody would be out the next day. I never received any kind of response. It was a complete waste of my time.

Joel Boyer returned calls promptly during the time we were seeking bids and throughout the process. The work took exactly five days as predicted. The deck looks great. The job site was left as clean as it was prior to the start of construction. We are very pleased about the entire project!

We never heard back from them.

Workers came day one and ripped out our old porch and starting framing the new one. Everything was removed by truck and deck was built and from start to finish this took 5 days total. Workers were very clean and right on time every day. The trex deck that they built is the nicest in the neighborhood and it came out even more beautiful than I expected. I have nothing but praise for every aspect of this company.

My absolute uncompromising policy is to hold back the final 10% payment on any large jobs for 30 days if possible, 10 days at the very least. This allows me time (especially a weekend) to look the job over, etc. Unique Deckbuilders wasn't even willing to consider this. Instead, I got an earful about all their multi-million dollar jobs, etc. and how they don't need my business as they are already booked out to August. Hooray for them, boo for their customer valuation attitude.

They were just great, they came and gave me an estimate. They did everything that they needed to do to make a great deck. They had to take apart an old balcony and put it back together. The workers were always on time, really nice guys, and just seemed to know what they were doing.
