The Basement Men & The Concrete Man

All went very well until the workmen accidentally compromised my AC. I had to call Steve on Memorial Day weekend ( temps were 95 degrees in my home). I have a relative who works in HVAC so he determined the problem. I called Steve to find out if I should just have my relative fix it or if he had someone from his company he would prefer to look at it. It was a wire that had either been cut or disconnected inside the ceiling.Steve turned into a different person. He was yelling at me and refusing to take responsibility. I had the AC on about 10 days earlier, before they put the ceiling in and it worked just fine. He continued to yell at me because I had the nerve to bother him on a holiday weekend, his first day off in over a year. So sorry Steve but I had just had surgery ( which he was aware of) and couldn’t leave the sweat box my home had turned into. I’m thinking I was a little more inconvenienced than he was. All goes well until you accidentally get Steve angry and the all bets are off. Don’t take the chance on putting yourself through this. Use another company. He somehow forgot that I HIRED HIM not the other way around.

Every project went really well in a timely fashion.

We are now in the middle of the project. Steve has been very punctual and professional and reposive from the beginning. His price was very reasonable and he has been always available to respond to you within one day and unlike many other contractors I have worked with he doesn’t nickle and dime you mid project and hard to find after the project begins. I will update this review after the project is finished with photos. Highly recommend.

Not sure of the quality of their work, but their professionalism leaves much to be desired and I would personally not hire them based on that along. I can’t imagine how they would react should something go wrong on a job.

The owner responded very quickly to my initial call and all subsequent calls. He listened to my requests,made a few suggestions and we agreed on the planned remodel of my very seventies dark paneled room. Although I was in no hurry,they started in one week and completed the work in seven days. The workmen were extremely pleasant,patiently answered all my questions and tried to be as neat and clean as possible. I am very pleased with my updated room and equally pleased with this company.

Steve, Tony, and everyone else on Steve's team were fantastic from start to finish. Our condo building's metal framed slab stairs were rusted out and long overdue for a replacement. Steve came out to check-out the job and provided a quote a few days later. Pricing was very competitive with the other quotes we had received, but Steve's professionalism and communication made the choice an easy one. His team completed the demolition and framing of the new stairs quickly and efficiently, despite weather that went from rainy to 90+ degrees in the course of the week. The concrete was poured soon thereafter, and everyone in the building agrees that the stairs look great. Steve stayed in touch with us on how to care for the stairs while they set, and his team cleaned everything up when they were done. Throughout the process we were so impressed with The Concrete Man that we also hired him to replace a sunken walkway, and this was done with equal professionalism. We'd highly recommend Steve, and will definitely be back in touch for any future concrete needs!

This was a GREAT company to work with. They totally understood what we wanted to accomplish. I did some work on my own (painting ceiling) and they were fine working with my schedule on that. The work was high quality and the price was very reasonable. I'd hire them again in a second!

The project went very well and we are pleased with the results. The quality of work met or exceeded our expectations in every case. An excellent value for our money. Steve & Martin were easy to work with, responsive to our needs, respectful and tidy. We paid for our own materials, but felt comfortable giving Martin our home depot card to pickup extras. We are planning to use the Basement Men again for a future remodel project.

The Basement Men did outstanding, high quality work on our house at an affordable price. We can attest to this because we've had multiple contractors do work on our house over the years that were more costly and weren't completed in such a timely manner or at the same level of quality. The best part about working with Steve and his great team is that they give you the cost of the work and then you decide on the amount you're willing to spend on the materials and upgrades you'd like to make. This gives you control over the cost of the items that are installed as opposed to a fixed price without knowing the quality of the tile or fixtures that will be used in your bathroom or basement. For us we spent more on the materials used in our bathroom and less on the basement and are happy with the decision. The quality of the installation was impeccable in both areas. The team was very communicative via text and phone and had frequent updates on what was needed each day or week and we never felt like we didn't know what the next step in the process would be. As long as you are clear in what you want and have this in your contract, you won't be disappointed. Like any construction project, unexpected things can happen so a written contract is always a necessity. In our case, it went smoothly and quickly with only a minor hiccup here and there as would be expected with any major construction job. I couldn't recommend this company more for projects like this after our experiences over the years with other contractors. They are a high quality contractor at a reasonable cost. Not sure what more one could ask for. We'll definitely be using again for future projects.

Everything was timely and on budget, carpenter, electrician, and plumbers were respectful and responsive to our needs (for example parking in driveway not on street). They found inconsistencies in previous construction and corrected them without delays or drama. Great experience, planning another renovation upstairs now:)

We hired the basement men after noticing water in our basement. We have older children moving back and needed the basement updated. The Basement Men first filled cracks that were causing the water and then moved onto refinishing. We gutted and updated the existing bathroom and added a bedroom and egress window. They did an excellent job, they were reliable, steve communicated with us throughout the process, assisted us in buying fixtures, flooring, tile, etc. Steve’s men were clean and very courteous. We now have a dry and new beautiful space for our children to stay.

It went very well! Steve and his men did an excellent job! They were responsive, quick to return phone calls, came to work every day, always communicated and cleaned up after themselves.

We used the Basement Men to refinish our basement. We had an older basement that needed updates to make the space more family friendly for young children. Steve was responsive to our call and spent a good deal of time with us at the estimate helping us to combine all of our wants with our desired budget. We were very happy with what the proposal included for our budget, which he was conscious of. They started on time and came to work every day. They communicated with us throughout the process, always available for questions or concerns. They men were neat and respectful to us and our home. It was a very good experience and we were thrilled with the results!

I used the basement men to put back together our Basement after we had water. Steve was responsive to our call and our concerns. He estimated our project, and once the contract was signed, returned with his men within two (2) weeks, ready to work. He removed all of carpet, demoed our bad and wet walls/removed bad drywall and filled cracks in the concrete walls and floor. He then rebuilt the basement back, put it back together and installed a vinyl plank flooring. We had a very good experience with Steve and The Basement Men, we were very happy with the work and would use them again in the future

I made the initial appointment over the phone with the company in December 2017 after reading all of his comments as well as other contractors. Steve came out and met with my wife as I was out of town. I arrived home shortly after Steve had left, I called him to come back and entered into the contract to finish our unfinished basement as well as to do the demolition and paint, tile, replace the vanity and toilet, which I purchased the materials ahead of time. Steve advised that he would not be able to begin the project until late January and said it would take 3 weeks to complete, which we agreed. Steve contacted me, stopped by the house with his guy and showed him the area to be finished. We walked around together and Steve made a suggestion about a closet under the staircase, which I thought was an excellent suggestion. He Steve informed me at this time he wanted to get the framing completed so the electrician could get in and do most of his work. This was on Tuesday, January 2, 2018. We had a lot of clutter in the basement due to my wife and I have married two years ago and the consolidation of two homes. I had to move all of the items from the side of the basement that was being finished into the mechanical room. Steve and his employee Lucas looked at me as if I were crazy as I stated there was a lot of items, however, I fit all but two items into the mechanical room. When they were leaving, Steve said they would like to start Thursday, January 4, 2018, in the morning, then I received a text stating they would be at the home @ 12:00, then another text stating they wouldn't be there until 12:30. We had made plans, as our son had just flown in from Florida that morning, so Steve and I spoke over the phone and I expressed my disappointment in the changing of the times, it may have been my 33 years of military experience but I told him I am punctual and when I give a time I am there. He proceeded to explain the interruptions that may occur during construction, which I already knew due to this being my 5th home and we had much work already redone in this 52-year-old home over the past two years. The conversation was very respectful. His workers arrived and I provided a code to the front door so they could bring in their material. I really appreciated the craftsmanship and how polite and courteous Lucas and his workers were not only to my home but to my family. They were extremely neat and tidy. I am getting to wordy but bottom line I would hire Steve and his team again, I have already recommended him for work to my friends. Steve and I had one heated discussion but I did not take offense with Steve as someone else said in a review, I took this to be Steve is passionate about his business and his profession. I would definitely hire him again if we need further work to be completed in this home.

I have been a forever client of Basement Men / Steve Lauer. He has done everything in my home from a new driveway, new bathrooms, new kitchen/mudroom, complete interior house painting, basement gut and rehab and countless other projects. I don't seek out any other service providers because Steve is prompt, reliable, services are well-priced, he is on-site frequently and the work is always done right the first time.

The work was great for the price. The basement men came in at the lowest price, and since I was no in a hurry to get the project done, I was able to accommodate some delays that popped up as we discovered issues. Having done major home construction projects and having an idea of how the work was supposed to be done helped significantly with working with the basement men. If this is your first major construction project this might be tough, if you have done a home construction project before, and know what you want at a good price working with the Basement men will be a great company to work with. Steve is very responsive, and on point. Calling regularly to provide status, I was at the site daily and caught any issues that came up, the guys were responsive and fixed the issues as they came up. I had some challenges with Steve and his communication approach and lack of clarity in the beginning after having a conversation with him, we were able to resolve the issue and moving on well from that point. This is a good company to work with, if you are looking for someone to come in and get the work done with no frills. Having worked with them, I would definetly work with them again.

We used The Basement Men for a basement remodel with a bathroom and workout room (including framing, drywall, carapentry, plumbing and tile work and then used them again for a concrete stoop and walkway. From the start, Steve was responsive, attentive and listened to our concerns as we had had negative experiences with contractors before. Steve put together a detailed proposal and presented it to us, he then brought over his crew leader for a walkthru. He was professional and straight forward, we were happy to be doing business this way. Steve communicated with us through the entire process, helped us with selecting fixtures and tiles (also extended his discounts), and made sure that the job ran smoothly and in his promised time span. We are absolutely thrilled with our new finished space. We were so happy that we then hired him to remove and replace a concrete stoop and the process and results were just as good. I would absolutely recommend Steve and his men and will certainly use them again in the future

Steve is very punctual and very honest. He gave us a very fair price and did not hesitate when I asked for references, which is a indication they were not coached. His references raved about Steve and the work his company performed. Now that I have first hand experience with his company, I can happily say that anyone looking for work in their home, basement or otherwise, should call Steve first and not waste time with anyone else. I wish every product was as good, or service performed as well as Steve and The Basement Men delivered to us.

I found working with Steve went professionally and smoothly. He was always in contact and responsive. My goal was to completely refresh my kitchen and bathrooms by updating rather than completely remodeling....with Steve's insight and advice, I was able to accomplish that. I'd say he went beyond the call of duty in his support and counsel in making sure the project went according to plan. I only have the highest accolades for the person Steve assigned to my projects.
