Sunrise Tree Care

Very pleased. Michael Wall came out promptly for an estimate and emailed it shortly thereafter. Included prices for trimming and for complete removal of tree if needed. After consulting with neighbor, we settled on tree trimming only, which they completed professionally and quickly, just as roofer were arriving to replace the roof. Perfect timing. Crew was quite helpful and trimmed to my specifications.

The price I thought was definitely an A. They were here bright and early in the morning. I have used them before and would definitely use them again. I keep coming back because the owner seems to know exactly what he is doing. I am impressed with his knowledge of trees and it scared me to watch them do it but they seem very comfortable climbing way up there and lopping limbs off. The trees they took of were pretty sizable too. It took them about 6 or 7 hours to complete. They had a little trouble with the maple. The communication and interaction was very good. They cleaned up as well as they could. They didn't clean up completely because the other company was going to come back and finish up with the patio. They cleaned up as much as they could. I asked them to save some of the branches for me for walking sticks for Eagle Scouts. I still have them. I am trying to get them to the people who are supposed to work on them. There were a couple of them from the locust and I'm not sure if they got some of them off the crimson maple or not because it was dying. It was not in good shape.

Faster than anticipated and very professional

The office replied to my request to schedule a quote within 2 days. The arborist called and said he would be in our neighborhood that weekend and would come by on Saturday. This company had done work for the previous owner and the arborist I called him late afternoon when he had not come by yet. He said he forgot and was no longer in the area. He said he would come by the next Saturday. He did not show up that day either. We did not hear from again and hired another company to do the work. Three weeks later the arborist showed up at our door unannounced on a Saturday evening wanting to look at the trees. He was pleasant, but we told him we had hired someone else weeks ago.

I am sure they are competitive. I am not sure if will use again!

It did not.. I called on Monday, and they said someone would call me back.. ON Thursday AM, Steve McGuinn called and we made an appointment for 3:30PM same day, he said he was in the area. Well, I came home from work at 2:30PM and no one showed, nor did I receive a phone call. Guess they don't need the money. I even tried to call his cell, the one he called me on earlier. He is apparently one of the owners. I don't do business like this.. Don't waste your time.

After we signed the contract, they arranged for a utility line survey of our property, then confirmed a date to install the tree. They followed up with a phone call the day before, and the crew showed up on time. They did an excellent job, grinding up the old tree roots, supplementing the soil with mulch and a watering bag system to optimize the transplant, and cleaned up everything before leaving. We would not hesitate to recommend them.

Excellent job. Trees look much better after work. Supervisor came to start work. The crew climbed into the tree to get at some of the internal dead branches. Used long sticks with sharp blades at end to trim lower sections of the trees. Used power saw to cut some branches to either remove low hanging branches or remove branches over neighbor's property. Many, many dead branches were removed from long row of vegetation and from tree in back yard. All debris was hauled away and yard looks clean. The crew had a wood shredder on the street in front of our house and shredded the many, many branches from this job. Property and trees look better after this work. I had used this firm about two years ago to remove a tree from our front yard, near the house, that had died after a harsh winter. They professionally removed that tree. And, they removed the stump to about one foot below ground level (for an extra charge), which allowed us to plant grass where the tree had been. Today, you would never know that the tree had been there. They did a great job.

When I called the company, I specifically requested an apppointment rather than a drive-by, and the person in the office indicated that the arborist would be in touch by phone to schedule it. The arborist, Lyle, showed up with no call and indicated that he was too busy for calls--saying that I'm not an old customer, and he has thousands of old customers. (I assure you I will not become one of them this way.) He was sarcastic, asking if I realized there had been a storm recently. While I'm sure he is busy, I would have been happy to make an appointment weeks ahead in the calendar. He was terse, while our experience with multiple other arborists is that they took a similar amount of time as Sunrise, but shared information about the trees and the tree removal process to give us a picture of what to expect: a night and day difference. The whole interaction was unpleasant. When the office sent the estimate, I replied, thanking them for the estimate and telling them why we would be unable to consider their bid (outlining the above almost verbatim). They never responded. It seems very clear that the company is not interested in my business, and not concerned about the rude presentation of their arborist. For what it's worth, we're going with another large, well rated company who, for the exact same service, is charging slightly more than half of what Sunrise bid. There's nothing to recommend this company in my experience.

The work was significantly delayed. This was blamed in part on the weather, which was very wet and problematic, but they also indicated they had not received our signed copy of the bid, though we later found we had a confirmation of their receipt. But on the day the came, they came when they said they would and were able to finish very quickly.The clean up was great and they took out the trees and ground the stumps as agreed (they overlooked one stump, but came back for it when that was pointed out to them). I guess we did not talk enough about how the trees and bushes would be trimmed -- I figured they're the experts I'll let them trim it "the best" way. One tree got lopped off at the top to avoid wires. I expected that, but it looks in artfully done -- there's a little stump at the top. The other tree left a lot of tall branches including some that are still among the wires, making me think I'll have to do additional trimming of my own come fall. I didn't ask them to redo the trimming, maybe they would have if I'd asked. I didn't get competing bids, so I can't comment on the price.

I have been using Sunrise Tree Service since 2009 and i found them on Angie's List. Lyle, the Arborist, is truly knowledgeable about trees and has never steered me wrong. I have to have Chimney work done and needed the tree next to the Chimney trimmed. I had Lyle come out and assess all my trees as it had been a while since they were trimmed. As a repeat customer, he gave me a nice discount. There were 4 men and they worked together beautifully and professionally. The supervisor asked me how much I wanted the trees cut back and checked in with me periodically to make sure that I was doing what I had asked for. They cleaned up all the debris. I would highly recommend this company.

I was contacted by an Arborist who came out to assess the scope of work. I promptly received a proposal for the work. The ash trees and the oak were cut down, chopped into smaller pieces, and left in the woods as agreed to in the proposal. The Austrian pine, which was not in the wooded area, was cut down and removed and the stump was ground as agreed to in the proposal. I was very satisfied with the work.

We had been using this tree service for more than 10 years and thought the service was decent up until this experience which ended our business with them. I called Steve McGuinn for an estimate and he came out quickly as usual. He gave us the estimate for the trim and treatment and we gave him the go-ahead. A few weeks after I paid for the work, the Village Forester stopped by to talk to me about this same tree. He told me he had received a call from Steve at Sunrise Tree informing him that the tree in question was a potential hazard for the Village since it was dying and growing over the street and sidewalk. He informed me that the Village would need to remove the tree for safety reasons, and would replace it with a new young tree of our choice. I thanked him for his honesty and said that if that's what was needed, to just take care of it. I am upset that Sunrise Tree was willing to take our money to trim and try to save a tree that he immediately reported to the Village Forester as a safety hazard. I feel this was opportunistic, ethically questionable, and dishonest. We have not used Sunrise Tree since. They violated my trust, and in business or any relationship, that is everything. I will never use them again and cannot recommend them to anyone. I waited to submit this review because I was too angry to bother to write it. UPDATED REVIEW: A few weeks after my review was published, I received a call from David Taylor from Sunrise Tree. He came to see me and discuss my complaints, and admitted that his company erred. He offered me a full refund or to have three large trees trimmed, and one would additionally be cabled to prevent it from splitting and falling on the garage. Because of his sincerity, I decided to let his company perform the work. I believe David and Sunrise Tree genuinely regretted what had happened years ago, and truly wanted to make it right. I agreed to amend my review once they completed the work satisfactorily. I have to say, they took care of what they offered to do and the work was quick, thorough, and neatly cleaned up. I believe they demonstrated the professionalism and service I was used to from them originally. To err is human, to try to rectify the mistake and provide a fair solution is the basis of forgiveness, and I feel David and his company did their best and succeeded in reaching out to me to repair my loss of trust and dissatisfaction. In these times, these are rare qualities and worthy of mention. Thank you David!

Great -- a very good price, very nice and professional. They even moved a big pile of flagstone close to the tree so it wouldn't be in the way. They were very careful and marked the tree the day before so no mistakes would be made. A+ all the way!

After I contacted Lyle from Sunrise he responded in a very short time. We left the time open for the work to be completed, but Lyle thought that he could have a crew ready within two weeks. The crew arrived within the two week period and did an excellent job. They were very careful and cleaned up everything. I would definitely use them again.

I contacted their arborist Lyle Katzman for an estimate for trimming two trees, removing several stumps on the side of the house and options for treating my Emerald Ash tree in the front yard to protect it from Emerald Ash borers. Lyle was not very speedy in returning my phone call. When he did return my phone call we scheduled a time for him to come give me an estimate. After I received the estimate I contacted Lyle to schedule a time to do the work. He said it was a busy time for him and could possibly get me in but would have to call me back later. After a week of no return phone call I called him back. Lyle said, again, that it was a busy time and he would do his best to get me worked in. After a month I called him back again and asked if he wanted my business - I would like the work done soon because one of the trees was overhanging my garden and needed to be trimmed to benefit my garden. Lyle said it costs him money to send his crew out and my job wasn't big enough to warrant coming to my area so he needed to see if he could line up more jobs in the area first. I then contacted a manager at Sunrise Tree Care and told her about the situation and asked if there was any other arborist that could do the work in a more timely manor for me. The manager was wonderful and worked it out so that a crew was there within a week to perform the job. The manager was a wonderful person and very professional. I would use Sunrise Tree Care again in the future, but would ask to work with a different arborist instead of Lyle.

They were punctual ,courteous and professional. Watching them work was almost like waiting a ballet.

They also treated our ash tree and fertilized both trees.

We decided to go with Sunrise. We felt Lisle's experience was vast, and he felt comfortable with the job. They came and cut down the tree in 3.5 hours. They were professional and cleaned up the area. I would recommend them. We were not home when they came, but the next door neighbor was, and provided the information about the professionalism (we could see how clean they left the area).

They do great work. We had a little trouble with communication for this job, but that has never been an issue when we used them in the past. I attribute the difficulty to the fact that we were having other work done and we needed to schedule Sunrise around that work, plus they were really busy uie to recent storms. They got the job done right. We are satisfied customers and will use them again.

Very responsive and work was done in a timely manner.
