It went horrible! We payed him.. he came and built the front porch.. to find out later he didn't attach it to the house, he didn't use any kind of support under the post that were holding up the porch roof, he used nails that started to rust a few weeks after, he pieced in little boards and had extremely bad cuts..basically gaps, but claimed it was from the weather (within a month). He built on a hall, bedroom, bathroom, and three closets.. (we also had a basement but he subcontracted that out) He began with the basement stairs which were a trip hazard. The top step was about 5 inches and the bottom step was 10 inches each step in between were different. We made him redo the steps! There are inside walls that are not square, we were to get a 60 inch vanity but found out it is measured 59 in back and 60 in the front so we now have to go with a smaller vanity. The floor is unlevel and he didn't match the addition floor with the existing floor so we have to buy more plywood and hope that works. He didn't check to see where our existing wall was to match to the addition wall so now we have a corner in our living room.. He took out a window between our existing living room into the addition before he put in our basement windows . I told him I wanted the windows in before he did this because its like leaving our house unlocked for two nights, anything or anyone could go through the basement windows up the stairs and into our house!! He put up drywall.. he didn't cut evenly with the outlets, he had holes and gaps every where (some gaps were probably from the walls not being square). Oh and the roof .. he laid new shingles over the existing and there are big humps in many places.. we were told by other contractors that it may not make it through this winter (a brand new roof!!) So that all has to be ripped off and redone.. the porch was taken all apart and redone.. Oh and the roof did leak into our bedroom and living room! We fired him once and he was asked to fix something, which he did, but after he then put up the drywall we didn't want him touching anything else. We still had doors to be hung, mud/tape the drywall, paint, tile, carpet, replace windows, and taking out the load bearing wall between the addition and the existing.. he wasn't touching that!!! There is much more that is wrong and we now have to pay someone else to redo and finish.
